pawpaws2022 · 14/02/2022 15:19

This isn't a tell me how old I look post as such but a... do people think that women are older than they are all the time?
Someone just asked me if my next birthday was 45. Do I look 45?! (I am not 45, not that there is anything wrong with being older!!)
I don't want fawning but I'm a bit WTF, are people used to seeing women with no wrinkles or signs of ageing or.. ConfusedConfusedConfused
I thought my skin looked decent for how old I am and now I'm well, maybe it doesn't

Well I definitely would not have said 45. It's tricky with only half a face, but I would suggest (as kindly as possible, please don't think otherwise!) that your makeup, earrings (and if your hair is up?) all make you seem older.

pawpaws2022 · 14/02/2022 15:29

Hair down but it has a filter on and I can't revert it (not a smoothing one!)

It's hard to tell but regardless of your age of perceived age you have beautiful skin and lovely eyes. Don't worry OP you look lovely Grin

CharlotteRose90 · 14/02/2022 15:30

I’d say late 20s early 30s probably. You definitely don’t look 45.

Imsittinginthekitchensink · 14/02/2022 15:30

You look far younger in that second photo than in the first imo.

pawpaws2022 · 14/02/2022 15:30

Earrings are just diamond studs (teardrops) and hoops, I have 3 in each ear

SmellyWellyWoo · 14/02/2022 15:31

You don't look 45- probably early-mid 30s.

pawpaws2022 · 14/02/2022 15:33

I should add this person sees me makeup/no makeup, hair up/down so it's probably not a style thing

I think you're 38.

I agree people nowadays have a skewed version of what people are meant to look like at certain ages...thanks to botox and fillers etc

Yeah that was the point I was thinking of but I was so busy going "45?! I would expect to have more lines by then!"

It's like anyone with a vague line is "well you look about 50 to me"

Early-mid 30s. Fabulous skin, hair and eyebrows and your neck is still firm.

M0rT · 14/02/2022 15:37

I would have guessed late 20s/30ish.
I don't think it's anything to with your skin and more that whoever said that to you has an idea of how "young" women look and you don't match it.
Where I live obvious false lashes/caterpillar eyebrows/very long hair/long acrylic nails are a teen/early 20s thing so if I see someone with that style that's the box I put them in(in my head) unless they are very obviously older than that.
You seem to have a more natural look which whoever you were talking to might think is more common in middle age?

bergamotmint · 14/02/2022 15:39

I can't tell properly from a partial face shot. Late 30s/early 40s?

My first thought was wondering if you'd had a Botox brow lift, or whatever it's called, because of the eyebrow arches, but that may just be natural for all I know.

ConstantCougher · 14/02/2022 15:39

I’d guess 28? I look haggard compared to you!!!!

Natural shape, they are tattooed but it follows my brow hair IYSWIM. I had Botox 3 times about 3 years ago so my face has nothing left now sadly

I'd put you in your early- mid 30s, but it's really hard to tell people's ages, especially from a photo. Your skin looks pretty good to me, I think you look lovely however old you are.

pawpaws2022 · 14/02/2022 15:46

Shit, I forgot to put my actual age Blush didn't want it to be a guessing game, more a rant! I'm 38

Yay, I win!!
irregularegular · 14/02/2022 15:49

No you don't look as old as 45 from that. Some people are just clueless, I wouldn't read too much into it.

People usually think I look younger than I am (50) despite being very natural looking most of the time. I've always had a young face. That isn't necessarily a good thing and it's a shame if we equate young with better.

Wiennetta · 14/02/2022 16:22

You definitely don’t look 45. I’d say you look really good for your age and would have guessed mid-to-late 30s. You have lovely skin and hair.

Don’t read into it! Some people just either don’t think/have no sense/deliberately say these things to make you feel bad.

One of my ‘friends’ is always putting down other people - I think it’s unintentional, she’s quite a negative person about everything and everyone including herself… but as an example, I had a lash lift and when she saw the result she said ‘maybe your lashes will look more curled once it’s settled in’. I would have thought, oh crap, it’s not had any impact but everyone else was saying it looked great/looked like I had false lashes. Anyway my point is - sometimes people make mean or negative comments which really do not have any basis in reality!

5128gap · 14/02/2022 16:33

If someone thought you were 45 then it isn't because of your skin quality. It looks gorgeous and you must be able to see you have no lines or wrinkles in that photo. People base age estimates on overall appearance taking into account figure, hair style, style of dress, and how you move and carry yourself. Few scrutinise wrinkles and they're a poor guide anyway as they start to form on some people in their 20s. Sagging is a better guide, but you don't have that either.

bluepeacock · 14/02/2022 17:00

I would've said about 36-37. You're skin is not the skin of a 45 yr old!

PuppyMonkey · 14/02/2022 17:07

You don’t look 45. I’m just baffled at how someone can say “oh your next birthday you’ll be 45 I assume” as part of a normal conversation.Confused

BlackMagicWimpund · 14/02/2022 17:16

People just don’t think before they speak, a lot of time. I had an appt with a nurse (who looked 60-ish) the other day and she kept talking about “women our age” - and I’m the same age as you, OP! It’s hard not to take it personally sometimes but I think it’s very subjective and people have all kinds of varying perceptions of what a certain age looks like. Personally I’d avoid making comments about someone’s age like the plague, but sometimes it feels like I’m in the minority!

You look fab, OP.

PuppyMonkey · 14/02/2022 18:47

@BlackMagicWimpund maybe that nurse was actually in her 30s too.Wink
