What do we think of dressing gowns?

I've seen a lovely fluffy dressing gown I like in Sainsbury's.

Not usually keen on dressing gowns they always come undone and flap about, do I need to give them another try.

Still wearing the fleece floor length number I got when DC was unborn, and DC's 23rd birthday is imminent. I've never seen a better one.

At the ripe old age of 61 I’ve found a long length (but not break your neck length) wool/cashmere one looks great with pjs, shortie slip or granny nightdress (!) and even over ‘day’ clothes if I’m cold - not sure what I’ll wear when the weather warms up though …

MiddleOfThePack · 14/02/2022 20:53

I've an extra large fluffy sainsbury dressing gown. Work clothes off, pyjamas and gown on. And breathe...

duckme · 14/02/2022 21:44

I like a flannel one, I can't stand the fleecy ones because they just make me feel tall sweaty. I've got a short, cardigan type one which I wear a lot and a silky one for the summer.

GrandRapids · 14/02/2022 21:45

I love my dressing gown. Is a bit ragged around the edges these days but I've had it so long it's like part of the family 💘

Imouttahere · 14/02/2022 22:51

I love mine. Got 2, both are zip up with pockets

mamabear715 · 15/02/2022 05:39

So many of you hate fleecy DG's? You HAVE to have fleece, the thicker & fluffier the better, it's the LAW..

SusannaQueen · 15/02/2022 05:47

Hate them, as a child mine used to spook me at night, when it was hung on the back of the bedroom door!
As an adult they just feel annoying, get in the way when going to the loo and they make me feel odd, a reminder of being home sick from school. I just wear a cosy hoodie instead.

I can’t stand the feel of fleece. Touching it makes me wince.

I have 3 and natural fibres only.
Cotton jersey, merino/cashmere and silk

I tie mine picture @JellyTots2009 posted though baffled to learn some people don’t do this. I didn’t realise people tied them at the back first, and what, presumably then wrap it round to the side/ front?

I have a lovely warm dressing gown from The White Company which is lovely when it’s cold. Have a lighter one for the warmer months

JurgensCakeBabyJesus · 15/02/2022 07:27

I got one from seasalt in the January sales, I'm quite tall and always find dressing gowns not cosy enough because they come just below my knees, this one is soft and cosy and Chinese to mid calf, it's delightful

Temporaryrespite · 15/02/2022 07:44

I have an all-consuming hatred of dressing gowns because many are bulky and not flattering to modom's figure, they are usually (unless v expensive) made of a synthetic fluffy textile which makes me overheat, the sleeves get in the way of being able to do stuff, or they get caught on door handles, they make me feel depressed and old as if I am shuffling around on a hospital ward, and you can't cook in them for fear of self-combusting! Also they are often paired with fluffy slippers which are not practical in a house with lots of stairs. And even thin summer pure cotton kimono type dressing gowns take a lot of ironing and the sleeves are still annoying.

I much prefer to wear yoga pants, trainers, long sleeved cotton t-shirt and a gilet at home in which you can actually move around and accomplish stuff. Great for nipping out to the bins too! And if I am sitting on the sofa in my pjs at night watching the TV, then an ordinary fleece throw or wool poncho works just fine as a cover up and you still have your arms free and your shoulders unrestricted.

No, just bring it round the front and tie.

I'm going to try the way in the photo later!

SleepyJackson · 15/02/2022 08:24

I've never had one. It has never occurred to me to have one.

My mum bought me one when my first dc was born and commented how id need one now. I was perplexed but I did try. I found it really annoying and gave up.

Also, I just hate how I look in one. I'm naturally v scruffy and this just tipped me over the frumpy edge. So I was flappy and frumpy with no discernable benefit.

I think I have the same one. I love it, it's warm but also feels elegant somehow (think it's the kimono-style design).
TollgateDebs · 16/02/2022 09:54

Recently renewed my Tu Dressing Gown and bought another Tu, albeit from the men's range. Same type, but longer (wanted mid calf) and in a navy blue (something they didn't have in the women's range). Love a toasty dressing gown and if you are struggling to keep it closed, then sew in a velcro strip, it helps!

SplashinginPuddles1 · 16/02/2022 11:39

Thank god for my warm fluffy dressing gown from M&S! When the kids are away I live in it. Coat off, dressing gown on. Much more sensible than paying the price for gas.

JengaNonConfirming · 16/02/2022 11:45

I'm 6ft tall and recently treated myself to a lovely soft dressing gown from Long Tall Sally - I'm not exaggerating to say that it's been life changing! It reaches my ankles, the sleeves cover my hands, it's like wearing a snuggle 😍🤣 I feel such joy putting it on ☺️

PinkLemonade22 · 16/02/2022 11:52

I practically live in mine! Grin

SnakeLinguine · 16/02/2022 12:17

DH gave me a kimono from Shibumi for Christmas -- it's silk/cashmere, light and warm, reversible, obscenely expensive, and lovely to wear. I loathe getting out of bed, and having something that feels so good to put on immediately does actually get me downstairs faster and generally start the day more nicely.

I do value a nice dressing gown -- I also have a quilted one made out of old cotton saris from Toast.

HoppingPavlova · 16/02/2022 12:24

I have swapped to an Oodie. Much more convenient.

Phos · 16/02/2022 12:26

I love mine but my mum got me a heated blanket for Christmas and it's a total game changer for lounging on the sofa. Still like my dressing gown for wandering around in before I get dressed on a morning.

Mo1911 · 16/02/2022 12:35

They are the work of angels. The best piece of clothing ever invented 🥰🥰🥰🥰

FetchezLaVache · 16/02/2022 12:36

I have a fleece Sainsbury's one for the winter and a cotton waffle one for the summer and I love them both.

KalaniM · 16/02/2022 13:41

I love dressing gowns! I have a long towelling white company one, very comforting. For when it’s cold I have a linea velour huge one with a hood which is like walking around wrapped in a blanket and lovely for lying in the sofa. And for summer, I Have a few cyberjammies floral cotton ones. Oh and I splurged on a silk one which I still wear but the elbow is ripped so I look a tad GreyGardens in it. I have a knee length white waffle one which doesn’t get used much.

I’d love a really nice flannel one. I had a cath kidston flannel one that I loved, very soft and light, but it went bobbly so I chucked it.

Does anyone know where nice flannel dressing gowns can be found that aren’t tartan?
