What do we think of dressing gowns?

I've seen a lovely fluffy dressing gown I like in Sainsbury's.

Not usually keen on dressing gowns they always come undone and flap about, do I need to give them another try.

I bought this www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-partners-frosted-high-pile-throw-on/grey/p5767720?size=l-xl#product recently for my mum instead of a dressing gown. I love it, so does she, and I’m very tempted to buy myself one.

Barrawarra · 12/02/2022 21:45

I just bought a fabulous cotton kimono one which I swan about in feeling like a film star, love it so much.

MissFritton65 · 12/02/2022 21:46

@Divebar2021 I love my cashmere one but disagree about a towelling one; it's the best thing ever when you step out of the shower or bath. The others come into their own when you are dry and wanting to lounge and waft!

Divebar2021 · 12/02/2022 21:56

@MissFritton65

Yeah I agree. I put a towelling one on straight out the shower but I don’t want to mooch around the house in it. ( or waft)

GreenCat44 · 12/02/2022 21:59

I have a house coat. Fleecy and warm but no flappy sleeves and a zip up the front. It's better than a dressing gown imo Grin

MissFritton65 · 12/02/2022 22:00

@Divebar2021 exactly! Towelling dressing gowns are garments with a useful purpose; silk and cashmere dressing gowns are frivolous, beautiful garments for wafting!

MrsTimRiggins · 12/02/2022 22:00

Every so often I get mine out of the wardrobe and think it’ll be lovely, all snuggly and soft… it’s always shit. The sleeves are stupid and cumbersome, the tie never stays tight enough, my boobs try to escape, it’s not the right length… ugh.

RagzRebooted · 12/02/2022 22:01

@JSG55

I live in my dressing gown. Always have a back up for when it is getting washed - dread to think what it would be like not having one whilst I waited Grin literally the first thing I do when I come home is put it on.
Same here. Saves on heating too as we all do it and all have spares!
dudsville · 12/02/2022 22:04

I have 4! Two more fitted brushed cotton and two looser cotton. Deep pockets, lovely patterns... I LOVE them.

Rewritethestars1 · 12/02/2022 22:09

Whattttt some people don't wear or even like dressing gowns ! I really thought they were universally loved.

Grasping · 12/02/2022 22:10

I love them and have 3

Jersey
Cashmere and merino mix
Silk

I may never get dressed again

I also have Emu slippers
Aderyn21 · 12/02/2022 22:22

I have a very light cheesecloth type one, which is nice for throwing on to nip to the bathroom in the middle of the night. Was just thinking about buying a light soft fluffy one. Can't stand heavy ones or ones with hoods - too much bulk!

Northernsoullover · 12/02/2022 22:33

I have a snuggie. I don't think its the official name but that's what we call them. It's like an oodie but cheaper and nicer (I don't like the prints) This is what we have to replace our central heating.
My old faithful dressing gown is a Me to You zip up from marks and spencer.
Towelling dressing gowns are used in place of towels following a shower. So much warmer than a towel.

LunaTheCat · 13/02/2022 05:38

I have one made out of an old vintage woollen blanket - I bloody love it!

TulipsGarden · 13/02/2022 05:46

Love mine. I have a lovely soft, fluffy one with a hood from M&S, sized up so it doesn't come undone. It's brilliant. Dressing gowns aren't for doing things in though, they're for relaxing on the sofa once you've finished your jobs for the night. Or standing in the garden on a cold morning with a cuppa, inspecting your plants.

ArcheryAnnie · 13/02/2022 05:51

I like mine much better since I put some elastic in the cuffs. Didn't like the flappy sleeves, and the cold went up my arms.. Now sorted!

Mellowyellow222 · 13/02/2022 06:46

I have a lovely white Towel one for the white company - it even had a good.

I only use it after a bathe or shower - but it is really cosy.

I couldn’t site around the house in a dressing gown though.

Spongecakeandcoffee · 13/02/2022 16:03

I popped into Sainsburys and bought the dressing gown. Looking forward to having a shower later and getting cosy.

Hopefully I'll get on better with it this time.

I also have a seasonal wardrobe of dressing gowns. My current favourite is a fake Oodie from amazon that has a pouch for my cats in the front (also v useful for mobile phone, hankie etc).

Frenchfancy · 13/02/2022 16:43

No dressing gowns here. We all just wear a fleecy hoodie. Dressing gowns have just too much material, in the sleeves, in the skirt bit. They just get in the way.

Ok for slouching on the sofa watching TV but useless for offloading the dishwasher, feeding the dog, loading the stove sweeping the floor and the 101 other things I (well mostly DH) do in a morning or evening.

RaoulDufysCat · 13/02/2022 16:52

@Malariahilaria

How have you found the cyberjammies sizing? I like the look of their stuff but my waist falls in between two sizes and not sure whether to size up or down!

OddsNSodsBitsNBobs · 13/02/2022 18:03

As someone up thread mentioned, take the belt out and just thread through the front two loops and tie. It doesn't shift, game changer!

gingerhills · 13/02/2022 18:06

I live in them. I have about six of them, ranging from thick fleece to silk kimono.

I am generally a 12 but lockdown combined with perimenopause did a bit of a number on my boobs and trunk so I ordered the 14. Bit roomy on the arms and legs but very comfy so I'm happy. I could probably fit into the 12 but they're meant to be comfy no?

And to the pp who said to fasten the robe front ways only. Amazing!! Problem solved 😁
