What do we think of dressing gowns?

I've seen a lovely fluffy dressing gown I like in Sainsbury's.

Not usually keen on dressing gowns they always come undone and flap about, do I need to give them another try.

I have an actual hatred of towelling gowns for some reason, especially when they're rough and stained.

I have a joules fleecy hooded gown with big pockets and it's excellent and warm enough to keep me from freezing when going into the kids in the early hours or getting up before the heating comes on. Plus it's practically dry out of the washing machine so easy to wash.

However, I don't like the all day dressing gown or loungewear thing, too slobby. Dressing gowns are to go with pyjamas shortly before or shortly after bed, not daylight hours! I'm a snob about it...

@Malariahilaria

Thanks!

Absolutely love my dressing gown. I need one that's below the knee and not too warm. My DH bought me a Calvin Klein one and I swear I actually think about putting it on when I get home if I'm out.

Roominmyhouse · 13/02/2022 19:31

I love a dressing gown but not a fluffy one, I find them a bit sweaty. I prefer a towelling one or a cotton waffle one which is what I have now.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 13/02/2022 19:35

I live in mine. I have 3 on a dressing gown rotation system.

If I'm in the house I will be wearing a dressing gown. Get annoyed when I have visitors and have to take it off

Rainbowshit · 13/02/2022 19:39

I live in mine. Buy slightly oversized is my tip.

Like this . Don't go around the back just fasten them at the front
What other way is there?
Judystilldreamsofhorses · 13/02/2022 20:08

I have a lovely thick white waffle one which I wear about once a year - if the postie comes and we are lying in bed on a Saturday morning. My DP wears his all the time, but I find them really annoying and cumbersome. I’ve got an oversized grey alpaca cardi from Arket that fills the gap instead.

MistySkiesAfterRain · 14/02/2022 02:16

I have a fluffy burgundy one from F&F. My advice is get a long fluffy one with a hood. I really like mine. I sometimes think it would be good to have a towelling one and a light viscose one, but the winter one is ths essential one!

Anoooshka · 14/02/2022 02:24

I've just bought a really great plush, sleek, dark blue dressing gown. I look a bit like a dolphin! The cat thinks it's great too and she is now permanently attached to me.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 14/02/2022 03:05

I have too many of them. Some silk, an ancient satin one, some cotton.

My most used one is a black Terry one. And not just by me - DP said he didn't need one for Christmas one year when I suggested it, so I got it for myself for getting out of the bath.

Within two days, I came home to find him sleeping on the sofa in it with the hood up like a Jedi warrior and two cats enjoying something new to claw.

UsernameInTheTown · 14/02/2022 06:06

The dressing gown love is real here, but Kuddly (Oodie knock offs but better) are a game changer.

sandgrown · 14/02/2022 06:22

I love my dressing gowns . Great for first thing in a morning. If I am cold at night I lay my dressing gown over the quilt. We have lightweight holiday dressing gowns for sitting on the balcony with a morning coffee. My 19 year old son loves lounging about in his hooded dressing gown looking like a Jedi knight !

Oblomov22 · 14/02/2022 06:28

Live in my dressing gown. Get into it at every opportunity. So comfy.

OddsNSodsBitsNBobs · 14/02/2022 08:51

@UnUdderOne, you don't thread the belt around the back ie: it doesn't go around your waist. Put the robe on and then from the front thread the belt through the front loops on either side only and then tie.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 14/02/2022 08:58

I have two Seasalt ones, one for winter wear and one for the summer Grin

Pinktruffle · 14/02/2022 13:05

I love my dressing gown. I have a really old one from Next (about 15 years old) which is bright red and the perfect length and has a hood. I have had 3 newer ones since buying this one but there is always something wrong with them (generally too short or no hood) so I always go back to the Next one - Next nightgown have hugely declined in quality since I got mine so I don't recommend them.

I would love to get a White Company one eventually but I'm not sure I can justify the price at the moment.

Moll2020 · 14/02/2022 19:56

Bad fashion but I’ve got a grey fluffy dressing gown from M&S which has a zip! I have to admit I bloody love it! 😂

Yes! This is great - just discovered this recently!
TheChosenTwo · 14/02/2022 20:06

I have a white waffle one, dh got it for me for Christmas.
I wear it to the hot tub and back again! That’s it Grin
They remind me of my grandma who used to wear them about the house and I often used to wonder why she didn’t just bloody get dressed Grin
I don’t see the need for one in my life other than what I use it for. I wouldn’t wear it round the house, they’re flappy and useless for keeping covered up reliably if you’re naked underneath, and if you’ve got clothes underneath you don’t also need a dressing gown! So many layers Grin I sleep naked, can’t stand being bulky with layers on in general though.

PinkTonic · 14/02/2022 20:10

@BoodleBug51

DH bought me a long cashmere one from White Company for Christmas.......... I can't wait to get home from work to put it on. It's so warm and cosy, and even better I don't look like a teletubby in it.
I had one of those last year and I stupidly left it hanging on the bedroom door all summer. It’s absolutely devastated by moths. Gutted. I can’t believe I was so careless, I keep all my cashmere in moth proof bags.
Amortentia · 14/02/2022 20:14

I love my dressing gowns, I only wear long black ones that make me look like Morticia Adams. 😃 I could be doing with a new one but haven’t seen any recently. I can’t abide the big fluffy ones, make me too sweaty.

WellThatsATurnipForTheBooks · 14/02/2022 20:15

I've never understood wearing dressing gowns as soon as you get home or throughout the day but I couldn't be without mine for that spell between getting up and showering when you're having breakfast etc.

I've got a thick, oversized soft towelling one for the winter and a thin t-shirt type material one for the summer.

Get a oodie or oodie type thing. Love ❤️ mine

I have two dressing gowns - a beautiful one from 100 Stars (?) and a lightweight fluffy one for winter. I love both - except foe the sleeves which are too wide at the bottom. Why do all dressing gowns have wide sleeves at the bottom? Total mystery.
