Like someone having 'cheekbones', that this is somehow important as a woman ages (not my opinion!).

That being tall is superior to being short: this persistent idea that taller people look better in clothes. In my own opinion it is posture, not height that makes a difference.

I know there's history regarding height, especially with males, the pecking order and all that, but i am amazed that these ideas still circulate.

But who decided fashion/clothing was best carried off by taller women? It never made sense to me.
It makes some, kinda vague sense for a catwalk, but not in the real world.
If clothes are in proportion, then it's as broad as long to me.

I have also never noticed cheekbones necessarily make someone 'age' better either - whether that's Peter Cushing or Debbie Harry. People tend to look good if they look good (to my mind) regardless their age.

My point was more about the default thinking that thin lips is a negative. I think it depends on the overall aspect of the face & how features fit together.

Big black slug eyebrows a la Katie Price. I just don't get it.

I love a well groomed eyebrow, in fact I'm a bit obsessed about my own brows but the current brow trend is just awful.

And swimwear going up the crack of the a* - its fine if you have a beach bum but its just not good for anyone else.

Maybe I'm too old and just don't understand "young" peoples trends - that said I'm only 44!

5’10” here and I struggle to find trousers / jeans / dresses / skirts. It’s one thing to say clothes look good on tall people but it would be great if we could find some that actually fit!

@tygga

I don't see why people think thin lips are bad. People think Kate Middleton is gorgeous, her lips are thin. I think Kate Hudson is gorgeous and she had thin lips.
Your lips get thinner as you get older so it's probably subconsciously associated with ageing. Someone can be considered attractive and still have one or two features that are not considered the most attractive.

I'm 5'9 and can wear most things. Out of clothes though the gangly arms and legs are not so attractive, definitely not sexy the way shorter women can be.

Bertiebiscuit

Beauty is in a whole person, male or female - the way they speak, carry themselves, their posture, voice, the way they present themselves, take care of themselves, behave to others, the light in their eyes, the way they listen - calmness, politeness, generosity, good manners, regardless of their age - all the rest is superficial, temporary and unearned, and should not have the value it does - we may be lucky enough to have inherited good looks when young, but that is beyond fleeting, we should stop worshipping that

Great post, like something Judy Sheindlin would say.

Clothes do look better on average/taller women, in the main, because the majority are made for that market. Those of us at 5.2 have to look for 3/4 sleeves, the petite range, or put up with something that's not quite right!

For years I bought jeans & trousers at M&S as they were one of the few shops to do short lengths - no longer, their 'short' is now at least 2 inches longer. Gap used to be good for shorties, but they've gone.

I agree totally, I am actually 4 inches shorter than you so it is near impossible!
Teamill · 16/02/2022 09:32

For years I've bought M&S trousers and jeans in 'long'. They're now too long for me!

There's nothing wrong with cheekbones.
