What do you think of this dress for a garden wedding, late 40s bride

After years of putting it off for one reason or another, we've decided we'd better get married. Been together 20 years and feel slightly embarrased about a wedding because I'm extremely introverted.

We've decided to have a celebrant in our garden. We live in Australia and September is the month we've chosen because I'm about to turn 50 then.

I don't want to wear white or cream as I'm very pale and they just don't look good. We're only going to be having about 15 guests...very relaxed, a caterer and a bar....I want something lovely but not short or anything that shows any chest as my chest is very red due to broken veins...I also suit high necks as have a small chest and shoulders. I like this...any thoughts or other suggestions please? Must have SOME sleeve and high neck. Thanks!

It’s very very pretty. But… I don’t think navy is a tad dark for a September garden wedding. I get you don’t want white but maybe a softer colour? If you did want bold (and I do really like it!) maybe similar to your choice but in green? Or a cornflower blue? Copper etc?

All that said, it’s a beautiful dress!

I'm 5.6 and a size 12. Pale with dark hair. Flattish chest and pear shaped. Don't like my upper arms.

I cannot see from that what material has been used. But it's very pretty.

I absolutely don't think I would look at all good in a pale colour and never wear them. I should have said but planning on an evening wedding...about 6.00 ceremony. Don't want anything to go on all day etc. I know what you're saying about navy but because I never wear pale colours, I just think I'd feel weird wearing them just because I'm getting married. September is spring but it's not hot.

(Don’t know if you get them Down Under but look at Needle and Thread - very similar vibe)

AtrociousCircumstance · 08/02/2022 22:02

I think it’s absolutely gorgeous.

JustGiveMeTwoMinutes · 08/02/2022 22:03

That is a beautiful dress, absolutely gorgeous

StCharlotte · 08/02/2022 22:03

I think it's perfect. What will you do with your hair?

Crunched · 08/02/2022 22:03

Wow! I think that dress is gorgeous.

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 08/02/2022 22:03

Oh, I didn’t mean pale - cornflower is a strong blue and I was thinking more emerald than sea foam!

ShavingTheBadger · 08/02/2022 22:03

I think it’s perfect. I’m introverted (and flat chested!) and a couple of months older than you. My signature colour is navy and I’m a gardener - Rey tempted to order this for a wedding I’m going to in June!

TiredMamaBear · 08/02/2022 22:03

What a stunning dress!!! Love it!!

Probably viscose at that price? Some sort of netty chiffon over a lighter man made fabric.

TolkiensFallow · 08/02/2022 22:05

I think it’s gorgeous and you will look fabulous, it’s your wedding so just be you!

FortunesFave · 08/02/2022 22:05

Oh I'm glad everyone seems to think it's lovely! I'm not the best at choosing things really....I thought it was celebratory looking but also wearable. I still feel a bit Blush at the idea of getting married! After 20 years it almost seems a bit daft! There's always been something getting in the way...

I have long hair and always wear it up so I'll probably have it up in a big loose bun with a few curls. Can anyone advise on earrings? What should I wear with such a busy dress?

Absolutely gorgeous dress OP and sounds like it will really suit you.

I think the colourful embroidery really lifts the navy and stops it coming across as overly dark.

Congratulations 💜

FortunesFave · 08/02/2022 22:15

Well I've ordered it! Thanks everyone for all your help! I actually feel a bit excited now!

It's beautiful. A perfect wedding dress if you are going for non-trad.

AtrociousCircumstance · 08/02/2022 22:17

I think you can get away with long dangly delicate earrings which pick up the colours of the dress embellishments!

Ooh exciting Grin

NashvilleQueen · 08/02/2022 22:18

I completely love it. It's beautiful

Rainallnight · 08/02/2022 22:21
