A manicurist told me that if I ate jello everyday, my hair skin and nails would be radiant. I did for a while… and it worked! My destroyed nails looked like claws and I had lots of baby hair!
My grandma was drinking everyday leek stock ( literally boiled leeks water) and had a stunning complexion well past 90.
What are yours?

Sorry forgot to add the toners! I use a glycolic one in the morning and a rose one at night because you shouldn’t use an exfoliating toner with retinol…apparently!

Prettybubblesintheair · 28/02/2022 11:51

Oh and at home dermaplaning. I just use the Wilkinson sword facial razors (£3 for a pack of 3) once a month to get rid of peach fuzz and dead skin.

SparrowLand · 28/02/2022 12:00

Oh and taking an antihistamine (fexofenadine) every morning, no matter what. I have bad allergies and only used to take it spring/summer but my allergist told me to take one all year round and now I don’t wake up with puffy face/eyes in the morning! My DP and Mum now both do the same and can’t believe the difference!

Using a Salux skin towel and nice bar soap got rid of the keratosis pilaris on my upper arms. Also makes it easier to exfoliate back and bum. Muji and Body Shop also have similar skin towels; you can pitch them in the wash every so often.

And switching to bar soap got rid of a bunch of plastic in my shower and saved a bunch of money.

I agree with the fringe protecting from wrinkles. I would also add wear good sunglasses with protection from the sun and wear them at the first hint of sun or glare. Really helps the ski round your eyes.

Green smoothies. A big one every day, mainly veg with a bit of fruit, mint and ginger to take the edge off the grass clippings taste. They take a bit of getting used to but they’re a great way to get 5 portions of veg a day and loads of water before you’ve even started and they make my skin glow. Also force DH to drink one because they help with his IBS-y stomach
What's your smoothie made up with?

CeraVe is tested on animals, la Roche posay toleriane is a good alternative it's around £12 for 40ml, it has similar ingredients as cerave.
Nadine Baggot on insta or YouTube is the most knowledgeable beauty journalist and has all the advise you could ever need on all things skincare.
Retinol, basic moisturiser, acids and spf are the holy grail of products anything else is marketing.

Old fashioned Nivea with the dark blue lid. Best thing for sore lips, and sore noses from a cold, dry skin around nails, great for feet. It's too heavy for me as a daily moisturiser but fine for an occasional boost overnight.
Also, now in my 60s I am trying to stop messing about with my skincare. I know what works for me and trying out different products just upsets my skin.Unfortunately I'm a sucker for a new product!

The Aspirin mask. I've used it for 20+ years. Aspirin is made of acetylsalicylic acid - the same properties of salicylic acid which is found in many exfoliating skin care products.

You just need to dissolved 5-6 uncoated aspirin in a tiny amount of water (I'm talking 10 drops or so) until it dissolves into tiny granules and forms a paste consistency. Then spread on your entire face and leave until dry. Wash off and exfoliate with the dried aspirin. It leaves your skin baby soft!! It's amazing. It is excellent for acne as well and cured my cystic acne when I was in my early 20's that even prescription meds wouldn't fix.

Google aspirin mask. You won't be disappointed! I used to use it 3x a week when I first started. Then 1x week. It's also great for spot treating acne (just use 1 aspirin)

Slugging! I’ve been slugging, which is basically adding a small pea sized amount of Vaseline to face and neck after washing and moisturising, since I was 15. I’m now almost 50 and don’t have a single wrinkle and I’m regularly told that I look like I’m in my mid 30’s. It works especially well, if you have dry skin, as I do and it literally seals in moisture, ensuring amazingly soft skin.
Yep I've just started this in the last few months and the effect on my skin has been transformative. Really soft and young looking. Also decent quality SPF 50 every day. Game changer
IEatChocolateForBreakfast · 10/04/2022 11:29

@Tmu100 @Frenziedandfurious

So you moisturise and then put the Vaseline on after? Just smooth it on top? Not mix it in with another cream? I need to try this!

Frenziedandfurious · 10/04/2022 11:34

Yes in the evening I do double cleanse, first micellar water then a wash off cleansing balm, then toner, serum (alternate between retinol and vit c) then moisturiser then a thin layer of vaseline over the top. Wake up with baby soft skin.

Skinnymimi · 10/04/2022 11:42

@Frenziedandfurious fantastic tip! Thank you. I will try tonight.

I do almost the same thing but wash, use a toner, then apply on damp skin an AHA, followed by either vit c or retinol. Then moisturiser and finally Vaseline.

Gelatin is just boiled up collagen. They do exactly the same thing to your hair, skin and nails.

3 litres of water every day.

But I think it's just genes aswell.

I've been having Botox once a year for about four or five years now.

Always use a moisturiser, drink loads of water and lots of exercise

bouncydog · 10/04/2022 21:23

For years I’ve used body shop body butter on my face as a moisturiser. 3 months ago I moved to a full regime of vitamin e cleanser, eye cream, moisturiser, Nivea Q10 etc. my skin now looks dry and wrinkled so I’m now going to revert to the body butter as it works for me! Note - use almond milk and honey rather than some of the heavier ones.
