Non awful walking/comfortable sandals

We are off on holidays soon. Lots of city walking It’s going to be hot so I thought walking sandals. But they give me the heebie jeebies. I have Birkenstocks but I just don’t think they will be comfy enough for a long day. I think I need more support. Any suggestions?

Walking sandals are always awful. It's the price for comfort. I think I'd buy the type that are more like a trainer with a lot of holes in them. The walking sandals all look like they're made of luggage straps!

Stick with the Birkenstocks. Depending upon how much walking and what terrain it might be worth getting some with ankle straps.

Honestly I have tried walking sandals and vented trainers and fit flops but I have never found anything better than Birkenstocks.

I find allbirds really comfy. They are very breathable and light. The 'tree' ones are probably the best bet for hot weather rather than the wool ones and there are lots of styles to choose from. www.allbirds.co.uk/collections/womens

Sorry I should have said - they are not sandals! But if you (completely understandably) hate all the walking sandals, these could be an alternative. They are what I would wear for a big day out with walking.

I was in Orlando recently and either wore trainers or these Tevas. I actually wore those Tevas pretty much all of last summer.

I would get a pair of fit flops and a pair of Birkenstocks both with some kind of fastening and alternate them.

I find fitflops amazing for standing around but birkies better for walking longer distances. Being able to swap between the two helps avoid fatigue.

It has been a long time since I did Disney but the walking wasn't as tough as I have done in my birkies (which I wore round various Roman ruins and so on) it is just long days on your feet. I did Florida Disney in DM boots but that was before I discovered Birkenstocks!

Honestly, you'll be much happier if you accept that walking for umpteen miles on cobbles is a specialist task for which you need a practical shoe and just get a pair of Tevas. Fugly has its place, even on S&B and if you own it with plain black or white rather than trying to compromise on the prettier ones then they're kind of cool in a Doc Martens kind of way.

Honestly why would you ruin a holiday with sore feet? Teva have a big range of sandals, they aren't all the thick strap type, try the Tirra style maybe? They often look better on your feet than on the shelf.
Or just wear trainers?

I have some ridiculously comfortable merrel ones. They look like hiking sandles though.

I get though a pair of skechers reggae slim sandals every summer, I can walk mile after mile in them and they're pretty cute if you've got a decent pedicure. Go a size down.

Vionics. Birkenstocks level support but look like a smart sandal. The ones with an ankle strap are best for walking

No-one goes to Orlando to look fashionable. It really is all about comfort. That said, I bought some sandals from Rieker last year that are not only comfortable, but look fairly dressy. Although I expect the fashion police will say they are frumpy

Merrell! These have a trainer sole. They look more like slightly elegant flip flops, but are way more comfy for walking city streets. They also have a version with a heel strap that you can do light hiking in.

I had a pair of teva sandals for ten years and wore them solidly for 3 months each summer. I actually cried when they broke and I found out they were discontinued. Took me 2 years to find a replacement pair (via ebay, brand new). They're brilliant.

I hate walking sandals. Not because they are ugly (I don't care!), but because they let every bit of grit, dust and sand in. When I'm doing a considerable amount of walking, in city or country, I wear trainers/walking shoes on even terrain, walking boots on rough terrain.

I've had a pair of Merrell Terran Lattice walking sandals for years and they're still going strong. They've aced national parks, hill towns, city streets and although they're a sort of off-white colour they come up clean if I bung them in the washing machine. They haven't broken yet and they've had some seriously hard wearing. I appreciate that the fashion police would probably say they're frumpy, but they're really practical and comfortable and when I see other women hiking trails in fashion flip flops and sandals I don't envy them for being on trend, I just think how daft they are.

In a theme park aren’t there rules about what kinds of footwear you can wear on the rides?? I’d imagine heels and flipflops are banned, for example. Sandals might be ok but they might have to have a heel strap.
