Non awful walking/comfortable sandals

We are off on holidays soon. Lots of city walking It’s going to be hot so I thought walking sandals. But they give me the heebie jeebies. I have Birkenstocks but I just don’t think they will be comfy enough for a long day. I think I need more support. Any suggestions?

I couldn't wear normal Skechers as they are too "flat" but their Arch Fit range are great.

Onlyhereforchaletschool · 05/02/2022 21:03
I’ve done all day Disney in Birkenstocks. Can’t beat them. Anything else is second rate. Used to wear single strap Madrid, now two strap, prefer Sydney but Arizona are easier to source!
MorrisZapp · 05/02/2022 21:05

@RampantIvy

I get though a pair of skechers reggae slim sandals every summer,

That's disappoininting. I would expect them to last for longer than just one summer. How do you mange to trash them? I love the look of the Reggae Slim, but they cross over an old foot injury so I can't wear them.

I wear them every day and walk many miles! They're still wearable by September but the heel wears down. I buy fresh each year.

These have seen me through two Disneyworld trips, including a fortnight in August.

Leather lining and footbed. Infinitely adjustable Velcro fastenings on all 3 straps, to cope with swelling.

MaryGubbins · 05/02/2022 23:00

Thanks for all the advice. I’ve bought 2 pairs to try. A teva one and a strapped Birkenstock.

Teva hurricanes. The moulded not material ones. By god they are like walking on air!

gardenhelpneeded · 06/02/2022 08:32

I’d just wear trainers. Get some nice trainers!

If it's hot I can't bear to put my feet in trainers. Sandals are a must for me.
RampantIvy · 06/02/2022 09:36

Depending on how hot it is trainers will be way too hot and uncomfortable.

AnnaMagnani · 06/02/2022 09:51

You will be in Orlando - everyone you see will be a tourist in comfortable shoes, just go with it.

When I went to Rome I packed one pair of comfy shoes and a load of lovely shoes for the glamour. They never made it out of the suitcase and the comfy shoes were worn everywhere - every single person you see is a tourist wearing walking shoes or working in the tourist industry, it doesn't matter. The v few glamourous Roman women 1. have been born to it and 2. haven't slogged all round sightseeing all day.

Nothing is worth sore feet.

MaryGubbins · 06/02/2022 09:58

Hi to clarify I’m not suggesting I buy something impractical but lots of these sandals are £90. I’d like to buy something less awful looking if there is a choice between less awful and more awful to maximise the chance I would ever wear them again at home. I don’t think that’s crazy?

We did Disney’s and genuinely I would say trainers. You will be stood in queues as well as walking around. Your feet will thank you for this. Plus it’s Disney - you will see grown adults embracing their inner child and wear clothing best suited to 6 year olds. I say this wishing no disrespect the Americans are not noted for their style. Also I would consider some non rub shorts. In a soft cotton. Join one of the,any Disney holiday makers Facebook pages - there’s lots of tips Have a fab holibobs

SilverontheTree · 06/02/2022 13:35

You see I disagree on trainers if you have genuinely very comfortable walking sandals.
If it rains then walking in soggy trainers is awful, whereas the walking sandals are mostly fairly waterproof and will dry.
Bear in mind that when it rains in Florida, it really rains! It’s like standing under a tap sometimes. Massive puddles!

Tevas :)

CharacterForming · 06/02/2022 13:40

You can get Tevas for somewhere between twenty and sixty quid depending on whether you're willing to compromise on colour. They'll always be useful for beaches because they're waterproof, so eventually you will get the wear out of them.

I live in Ecco sandals during the summer. Including for long walks etc - we walk a lot when on holiday. This type is super comfy www.charlesclinkard.co.uk/women-c1/sandals-c4/cruise-ii-womens-walking-sandals-p31416/s410448?

I totally agree, especially if it is 90 degrees and very humid. Trainers would be unbearable.

Cocolapew · 06/02/2022 13:53

I had these last summer and they were never off, its like walking on air. I'm buying the rose gold this year in case disaster befalls my tan ones.

Just coming to say - it's Florida, fashion goes out the window.

I've only ever worn sketchers trainers around the parks.

IDontHaveThePelvisForAFuton · 06/02/2022 14:22

I have some Merrell Kanoya as posted above in the light brown colour. I bought them for walking but wore them all summer and they still look brand new.

I wouldn't wear sandals without a back strap in theme parks as you have to remove them for rides without a floor.

CaraMocha · 06/02/2022 14:34

I like the look of those Merrell Kanoya ones, but none of the straps are at all adjustable. I've had problems in the past with suede like straps that are comfortable at first, but then stretch just too much so my feet slide around/blister on the soles/ball of my feet etc. (I have very easily blistered feet, again because of hypermobility problems!). And yet I also like suede straps as they tend not to rub as much as leather or have hard bits/buckles etc.
Do these stretch much?

The back strap has elastic where its sewn on both sides but isn't so much that it ends up too stretched, they're actually quite tight for me to put on but once on are comfy. The footbed is soft like memory foam so feet stay put.
CaraMocha · 06/02/2022 14:52

oh that's good, thanks. My feet can slip and twist in anything, even memory foam, so I do need the straps to stay tight. I can even get blisters from the seams and elastic and edges of straps, or even stitching on straps. It's so difficult. I might give these a try, though.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 06/02/2022 17:23

We visited a Florida all-day attraction in a rainstorm about a month ago. Soggy trainers were indeed fairly revolting. But it was a bit too cold to wear sandals, as DD discovered.

That's why I love my Josef Seibels linked above - the Velcro allows fine adjustments on all the straps.

I wore trainers too ( New Balance and Skechers) as it's best to change your footwear after a day in the parks.
