How to style these boots for work?

I would love a pair of over the knee boots for winter. (Live overseas) But would really need to be able to wear them to work to make the purchase worthwhile as winter is short. Work is relatively corporate, but not exactly suits & tailoring. Thoughts ?

I think if you wear a below knee skirt it’s fine as the fact they are over the kneee will be hidden. I think when you wear them with a short skirt it’s where it isn’t great for a corp environment.

IntermittentParps · 03/02/2022 09:04

I think over-the-knee is a bit tricky, TBH; for me anyway, they still have slight Pretty Woman/principal boy connotations...

But how about a smart sweater-type dress (structured, with a belt, good wool)?

Dress length: I'd be inclined to go for one that covers the tops of the boots, maybe with a bit of a split. I do like the length of the skirt/dress in the photo (the cream one), but wonder if it would still look OK without the coat.

rbe78 · 03/02/2022 09:05

Depends what you do for work really. The second pair look slightly more suitable for work than the second, but I can't imagine many work environments where thigh high boots are appropriate. (I love them by the way!)

I'd have thought they'd be quite uncomfortable for most jobs.

I thought it was two pics of the same pair of boots?

Hop27 · 03/02/2022 09:54

I like this type of idea, but with a fine knit.

I like this type of idea, but with a fine knit.
What is the point then of having over the knee? Surely they would be uncomfortable to sit in and you would be pulling them up every time you got up?
Gonnagetgoing · 03/02/2022 10:30

sorry but both those boots are not suitable for work unless you work in the sex industry. The heels on both boots are ridiculous.

Disclaimer - Victoria Beckham et al can wear what they want

Gonnagetgoing · 03/02/2022 10:31

The third pair are much better - heel is more suited for work/walking but again - over the knee to that extent is just silly, smacks of pantomime and best saved for after work, in my opinion.

Hop27 · 03/02/2022 22:53

I work in construction/consulting so deal with everyone from builders, designers, engineers, lawyers, consultants. So it's everything from corporate to site boots - and all the in between!
I generally wear a high pump, with a thin heel most days. (And site appropriate footwear when needed)
I just fancied something different spent last winter (2 months) in ankle boots.
But appreciate they might be a bit 'much'

gelatodipistacchio · 03/02/2022 22:56

Sorry, but I would literally never wear these to work and I would be a bit agog at anyone who did. (Sorry again)

gelatodipistacchio · 03/02/2022 22:58

@Hop27 i take it back - it maybe could work with the VB photo you shared, but crucially the skirt would have to come well enough below the knee to comfortably hide the height of the boots

bindud · 05/02/2022 07:33

Could you just go for long boots as opposed to otk? How smart do you have to be? I'm wearing mine like this

@bindud is that an Instagrammer? If so who please, looks like the type of thing I’d wear.

Brogues · 05/02/2022 08:04

Ooh I’ve found her. It’s @femmeblk for anyone else interested.

bindud · 05/02/2022 08:09

That was quick 😆, I really like her simple ness if that makes sense.

MrsTimRiggins · 05/02/2022 08:13

I wouldn’t unless you’re planning on wearing skirts that cover the top of the boots. I agree with pp that they’re just not that appropriate for work really. I wouldn’t have worn them when I worked in construction and planning anyway, and I was pretty relaxed about what counted as workwear!

Hop27 · 05/02/2022 11:53

The problem is I like the OTK option for the weekends, but our winters are so short. Can't really justify them if I can't wear them to work sometimes. Friday's, or if i have a social event after.
I don't like knee high boots, not sure why !

OP posts:
Jazzyjeffery · 05/02/2022 19:21

I think it'd be fine with a longer skirt that totally covers the fact they are OTK. If you can see they are OTK at work I don't think it's appropriate, sorry. I do understand why you want to maximise their wear though (they are gorgeous)

TyrannosaurusRights · 06/02/2022 09:02

I think they’re fine with a skirt that covers the tops.

I also think the right pair can look great with a pair of slim cuffed trousers tucked into the boot. But that requires a bit of experimenting with to get the proportions right so you don’t end up looking like a pirate or puss in boots. (Frankly i like that vibe and would be happy to look like a dashing lady pirate, but it may not fly in a corporate dress code.)

Maybe I just scrap the whole OTK idea and another pair of ankle boots instead 🤪

BatshitCrazyWoman · 07/02/2022 17:14

I wear OTK boots to work, with a longer skirt covering them. It's fine, no-one knows, they are really comfortable, and it means I get a lot of use out of them.

schmalex · 07/02/2022 17:44

I think wear them with a midi skirt and nobody will know. Plus your legs will be warm without needing tights.
I love OTK boots and have three pairs!

Ha! I thought that photo was of you and was about to say how amazing you look!!!

FayCarew · 07/02/2022 18:12

I think you could wear them for work. You might get a few principal boy/ pretty woman jokes though.
