Need help with a bag to go with outfit for son's wedding.....

Trying again after massive fail with first post!

I am wearing an emerald green jumpsuit (!!) and nude (sort of pinky taupe really) boots to my son's wedding in two weeks. I need accessories! Starting with a bag. I like the one below but I don't think it's quite the right colour? Does that matter, am I overthinking? I don't want something too small, or too big. I don't really like too small bags (eg a clutch), they feel too twee for me, and you can't fit anything in them. And obviously don't want to look like I am going out shopping! Happy to spend £100-150 if needed. Suggestions gratefully recd!

Life is too short for uncomfortable feet, but you definitely don’t need a dull bag. I’d go for something glitzy in a bright, contrasting jewel colour and a complimentary statement necklace or massive earrings. The jumpsuit is fab but simple so it can take some bold accessories
Do you have any bag suggestions, I like the idea of a contrasting jewel colour....

What about a gold coloured bag with chunky gold jewellery

Allpenguinsarepingus · 02/02/2022 20:21

So I’m not necessarily recommending these particular bags, but just to give you some ideas of things that might go well.
With that colour jumpsuit I’d go for something art deco style in black and silver. That would look fab.

Wedding1234 · 02/02/2022 20:25

Also I am NOT tall, slim and elegant like the model, I am short and curvy (pear shaped) with a big tummy. I need heels to give me some height but the jumpsuit looks really nice on - it looks curvy and busty and fitted rather than slim and elegant - I think it hangs off the model but it's v fitted on me as I said - the detail on the front hides my tummy. It is quite a different look to the pic....

I agree I think gold would look great with it but I can't wear "yellow" gold - I'm the wrong colouring - I can get away with pale gold but it's difficult to find (I have got a pair of shoes and a very very small bag in pale gold but I think they are too glitzy/sparkly for a daytime wedding). I can wear silver.

@Wedding1234 I don't think you can really be too glam for a wedding- unless it really is a very very laid back kind of do? Are the gold shoes comfy enough? Can we see them?

asparalite · 02/02/2022 20:36

The jumpsuit is so smart really nice.
How about a bag like this?

I found this at John Lewis & Partners. What do you think? https://www.johnlewis.com/dune-bettey-ombre-diamante-clutch-bag-gold/p5528163?tmad=c&tmcampid=7&sshare=jlappioss_Y29tLmFwcGxlLlVJS2l0LmFjdGl2aXR5LkNvcHlUb1Bhc3RlYm9hcmQ=

It's a really small wedding - it will be pretty but not overly formal...And my gold shoes are too strappy for winter...I want an enclosed shoe. As I said my feet and ankles are no longer something I want to draw attention to anyway....

I think if your feet are largely going to be hidden by the longer length jumpsuit legs that you can go comfort over style there and focus instead on the bag issue. Going to look for jewel like combos.

Nice bag, but I think it's too sparkly for the event - I'd like something a bit more daytime....The wedding's at 11.30am and there won't be much of an evening part to it - much more a small, daytime thing. I am also not very glamorous generally..... In the day, my normal out of work outfits are hush harems and ugg boots (controversial I know but I love a big boot and they are super warm and comfy! - a big bot also balances out my ginormous hips :-)). I also like converse, skinny jeans, hoodies, I've just bought a pair of hush ripley boots (which I LOVE!), but sadly don't go with the jumpsuit Grin

Can I ask where you got the jumpsuit? I love it!

Zebracat · 02/02/2022 21:10

I think the boots are the wrong colour The jumpsuit is so lovely that any boots would be fine, except for that colour ,which is too soft. A stronger pink would work, or tans/ oranges, teals, or black. I think pale gold could be lovely. It’s daytime but it’s your boys wedding!. Fo the coat, I would go fake fur and fabulous ! There are some great coats still in sales. Checkout Anthropologie and Debenhams. I hope you have a great day

I also have chronic illness so get fatigued and can't face wearing uncomfortable shoes all day....plus I have swelling on my ankles, not v attractive, so won't be showing off my ankles.
I wore jumpsuits to both my DDs weddings, wore heels in the day and trainers at night for dancing in!

I like the bag, don't like the colour although agree it would go. I just don't like burgundy red as a colour. One of the few colours I'm not keen on. I love it in the emerald but actually think that's more of a teal so won't go with the jumpsuit....I absolutely adore turquoise and teal and have already have bags in that colour but they don't work...

Just a thought on shoes...

I've been eyeing up these in the various colourways on the Esska website (though it looks like they've run out of lots of sizes). Most sizes available here though and this might the right shade for you.... Also reviews on both sites rave about how comfortable they are...

www.anthropologie.com/en-gb/shop/esska-vegan-charlie-heeled-sandals?color=007&type=REGULAR&quantity=1

That jumpsuit is gorgeous. (As a fellow short pear-shaped woman, I thought they were off limits - might try one on!) Hope you have a wonderful day!!!!!

Wedding1234 · 02/02/2022 21:21

@Soontobe60 I would probably go for that option if there were dancing but there won't be at this wedding. No loud music allowed at the venue! So it's going to be more of a daytime thing... still can't manage the heels though! The heels are also exactly the same colour as the boots which some people are saying doesn't go. This is confusing me somewhat as the boots and shoes are nude which I thought went with everything. They look absolutely fine on. The shoes look prettier with a nicer toe but the boots also look ok too.

Ooo they are nice, pale gold (which I can do) and look easy to walk in! I like that the first review says they are the comfiest shoe ever! Big box ticked. 😬. And not too glam. They are not enclosed though which I'm concerned might not be v practical for February....will have to have a mull on those.

I know what you are saying about the jumpsuit! I NEVER would have picked it up off the rail. Always thought they were for tall, thin model types! Went to a JL personal shopper thing and they picked it out and bizarrely it really suits me. I am bigger up top now I am fatter than I was (am still def pear shaped but I'm slightly more even with bigger boobs) Not sure how it would have looked when I was slim and pear shaped with my a cups. It definitely good for emphasising boobs and covering up a tummy.

I actually wonder if it's better to get a bag that matches the boots rather than a completely different colour... the boots are quite soft in colour and I think with a jewel toned jumpsuit and a different jewel toned bag, it might end up looking a bit much, and like the boots were an afterthought, iyswim? I think the boots would go better with the jumpsuit if you made them look more of a 'deliberate' choice, iyswim?

How about this one:
