I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I shampoo and condition it every time, try to rinse it all out, use the size of a tiny coin, etc. This problem only started about a month ago, I've noticed every day since that whenever I wash it it looks greasy once it dries after being washed. What can I do? It's getting so embarrassing and making me look like a lazy slob who never showers.

What shampoo and conditioner do you use?

EezyOozy · 30/01/2022 22:09

-use a clarifying shampoo
-use one of those silicone head scrubbers
-use conditioner only on the ends

BlueberryBalloon · 30/01/2022 22:10

Shampoo bars.

Spudina · 30/01/2022 22:11

Have you tried double washing? Small amount each time. Salons do it and I’ve noticed you get a much better lather second time. Do you only condition the ends? Don’t rub it into your scalp.

ElinorOliphant · 30/01/2022 22:11

Use dry shampoo as soon as you’ve finished the hairdryer.

I assume you’re washing every day…. For those that don’t the specific over night dry shampoos are very good I’ve found (if you remember to do it)

ElinorOliphant · 30/01/2022 22:12

Yes I always do a double shampoo

ThisIsStartingToBoreMe · 30/01/2022 22:12

Could someone in your house be pranking you? Adding something or switching your shampoo and conditioner. I'm assuming it's a product you've always used

Crimsonbow · 30/01/2022 22:14

This was an early pregnancy symptom for me.

I mixed bicarbonate of soda into my shampoo.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 30/01/2022 22:16

Hormonal changes or they have changed the formulation of the shampoo.

Invisimamma · 30/01/2022 22:17

Dry shampoo on the roots as soon as you've washed and dried your hair.

Try changing shampoo too, sounds like what you're using is too heavy for your hair type and leaving residue behind. Use a good clarifying shampoo every couple of weeks to clear it out.

Teadrinker11 · 30/01/2022 22:18

A variety really, Head and Shoulders shampoo, Vo5 conditioner on most days when I wash it though.

As pp double shampoo and conditioner only on the ends. Are you using fresh shower water to give your hair a good long rinse? Is the water too hot? Washing hair daily causes an imbalance and can cause greasy hair.

I've seen mumnetters recommend a shampoo for greasy hair by Loreal. I cant find it in shops though.

SparkleSky · 30/01/2022 22:18

Do you need to clean your hairbrush?

minipie · 30/01/2022 22:18

Conditioner only on the ends

Teadrinker11 · 30/01/2022 22:19

Thank you, I'll try a clarifying shampoo. Any recommendations?

I think I know the Loreal one. Clay, blue bottle, I had it years ago, can't remember if it was good or not.

I have fine hair which was looking greasy & needed washing every day. Loreal extraordinary clay shampoo & conditioner was recommended on here & it has helped. Its in a light green bottle & I found it in Wilkos (my local small Boots chemist or B&M didn't have it)

YourVagesty · 30/01/2022 22:30

I get this hormonally, usually when I'm stressed.

As others have said, clarifying shampoo works (the tresemme one works for me). I find that the richer and more expensive the shampoo, the worse it gets when it's going through one of those phases. You need something harsh and cheap, hence the tresemme clarifier. Oh, and don't condition to the roots. I just put conditioner from my ears down.

Queenoftheashes · 30/01/2022 22:37

Yeah I had this and used clarifying shampoo.
Id do a vinegar rinse as well.

Maryward · 30/01/2022 22:44

This was also happening to me, hormonal I believe but was also told it was because I was using too much product and washing it too much. So if you can bear it….I took a week off work and basically didn’t wash hair for 9 days 😥 then washed & have since only washed it twice a week using L’Oréal colour shampoo. My hair is much better, I use dry shampoo in between if I need too but it doesn’t get really greasy anymore!

TangledUp789 · 30/01/2022 22:45

I used to suffer really badly with sticky, greasy residue on my hair/scalp after washing. I know this sounds counterproductive but I sorted it by rubbing a tiny bit of conditioner (Dove) into my scalp before shampooing.

So my routine is: wet hair, apply conditioner to scalp, rinse, then double shampoo, then condition the ends. I do this every time I wash my hair (every day) and it works really well. I do eventually - every ten days or so - get some build up in my hair, and then I’ll wash it with Vosene, which works well as a clarifying shampoo.

This might not work for everyone (I have weird, very thick hair) but it could be worth a try.

Littlepaws18 · 30/01/2022 22:59

Detox dynamo from boots £6. It has changed my life!!! It's a clarifying shampoo use every third wash with conditioner afterwards. My hair has gone from being oily, dry unmanageable and breaking to silky. I wish I knew about this decades ago!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 30/01/2022 23:01

You need a clarifying shampoo

SingleHandSue · 30/01/2022 23:19

Don’t leave your hair wrapped in a towel for too long. I’ve noticed this has an affect on mine.

Agree - also suggest drying it with a hairdryer asap after after washing
