Work clothes for a tall and busty one

MidSizeMillie · 28/01/2022 09:24

I'm on the tall side (5'10") and very busty.

I have a new job, which has a smart-casual dress code. I'm thinking of getting a couple of tunic type things, but with a bit of a waist. I might wear over slim cut trousers or even tregging type things and boots. I'm not allowed to wear jeans or trainers.

Also thought maybe a shirt over trousers and a smart-ish jumper over the top might look nice.

I like dresses, but if they are low cut or in any way short, they are obscene on me due to height and boobs.

I am a size 18, but size up to a 20 in tight fitting things or size down to 16 in looser things.

Also, are lace up boots, not as chunky as DMs, but still a bit chunky, too casual?

Are you looking for where to buy?

I am also tall and busty

For shirts I used to buy bravissimo clothing (pepperberry) but they have stopped the clothing line - might be worth a stop for remaining stock.

I have also got a couple of shirts from LTS that worked with the curves, both recommended by Styled by Susie (not currently in stock). One had a hidden ‘modesty button’ that stopped gaping.

I have had some luck buying more voluminous smartish work tops that tuck in to trousers and thus avoid the ‘tent or tart’ challenge…

For trousers Next tall or ASOS tall have been good, though ASOS very hit and miss.

Also congratulations on your new job!

MidSizeMillie · 28/01/2022 11:37

Thank you Smile!

Yes, where to buy and what kind of things to buy! I really live in casual clothes and my current work allows jeans and trainers, so I've become used to that

PS: yes! Tart or tent! Exactly what happens to me

Look at bravissimo clothes :)

MidSizeMillie · 28/01/2022 16:10

Thanks angel. Do you happen to know how they are for length?

OP posts:
PiffleWiffleWoozle · 28/01/2022 23:49

Bravissimo normal length unfortunately. The long dresses are good as midis; tops you can roll up the sleeves.

Other places for dresses worth a try:
Popsy
Boden
Next tall

I have a selection of small vest tops in various colours to put under dresses that show indecent amounts of cleavage.

MaybeHeIsMyCat · 28/01/2022 23:58

Bizarrely la redoute Anne weyburn brand dresses fit me - 5ft 10, 34K! Pic attached

I also wear a lot of Dorothy Perkins dresses
Other pic is wallis utility shirt and M&S skirt

Wide leg trousers are another thing I wear a lot, popsy dresses as well

I’m 5’11” and size 16/18 36g. I like Fatface Simone dresses with leggings and boots. And I’ve got a couple of LTD dresses which fit me well. www.longtallsally.com/lts-black-floral-print-midi-dress-p

MidSizeMillie · 29/01/2022 16:38

Oh thanks mavis! Will look at both

@MavisEnderby74, I've ordered the LTS one in animal print. I sized down as it looks roomy...fingers crossed that was the right call

@NFT4

Thats a long winded way of saying you're a masculine fat woman
What part of tall and busty = masculine? Please do enlighten us
MidSizeMillie · 29/01/2022 19:08

How very dare you @NFT4?! My op wasn't long winded at all. The rest of your comment I can live with Grin

I also have size 8 feet and ENORMOUS hands. Just blessed that way and yes, I'm a cis woman if it matters.

Go and swivel. Nasty post from a nasty piece of work.

MidSizeMillie · 29/01/2022 19:15

Aw @NFT4, I've seen your other posts on here today. I'm really sorry you hate women so much. It must be awful and I'm guessing some awful stuff must have happened to you to make you like that Flowers

I've got a feeling @NFT4 may not be back! But fwiw, I know some really gorgeous short men. I've never understood the obsession some people have with men having to be tall. But you fancy who you fancy. You can't force a woman who doesn't fancy short men to fancy one. Just like you can't force a man who doesn't fancy 5'10", big footed, size 18 women to fancy one Smile

Yep exactly. I tend to judge people by nice eyes, smile and personality rather than getting a measuring stick out Wink
DukeofEarlGrey · 29/01/2022 19:44

Congrats on the new job OP! I'm 5'11" and hourglass and for me the best thing ever has been to find a good tailor. Then buy whatever you like in the size that fits your boobs and have the waist taken in.

Blazers can also create shape/a waist and would look good with some of the others things you're describing, including DMs. They don't need to be too formal.

Tart or tent made me laugh!

MidSizeMillie · 29/01/2022 19:58

Thanks EarlGrey! I'm really excited about the new job. It's quite a different role to the one I'm doing ATM, and I've got those end of job nerves, when you start thinking "why am I leaving again" Confused? But it may lead to much bigger and better things for me, so it is the right move (justifying it to myself).

I've never had much luck with blazers as (wait for it) they do make me look quite manly statuesque/ masculine 😆. I have really sharp, broad shoulders, so anything that fits my shoulders won't fit what waist I have. Maybe something like a Jersey blazer would work? Or yes, having something tailored.

OP posts:
Isonthecase · 29/01/2022 20:06

I've found Jaeger to be good for blazers, I have one from there that has magnificently long arms and was very cheap in a sample sale.

How do you find the sleeve length on fat face @MavisEnderby74?
