Help! Have decided I am getting some decent straighteners. Which ones?

Following on from this thread

The Mark Hill ones from Boots.

FHIs - don't know what they are.

these

Or GHD's (in which case, where from?)

Hubby says no point getting the next best thing. I don't want to try and save money and only spend £50 if they are no good, but equally I don't want to spend £100 if I can get away with spending less.

i think if you want the best it has to be ghd, sorry they are expensive. Most hairdressers sell them or you can order them of ghd website

carmenelectra · 29/12/2007 09:32

GHD's are the best!!!

they are the most expensive but well worth it. In the past ive tried all types, but none compare.

THey do have a tendency to 'pack up' after a bit - my sisters, my friend's and mine all broke in the same way, but to be fair ive had mine 3-4 yrs so cant complain.

i oredered a new pair yesterday a nd theyve just arrived! cant wait to use em.

You can get them from Ghd online, next day delivery(where i got mine from) or there are several places online that sell them slightly cheaper but you may have to wait longer to receive them etc.

Mny salons sell them too but will cost more.

I CAN get my quite naturally wavy as straight as at the hairdressers.

Worries me a bit that they don't last.

GHDs are the best by far! I have had others & they don't compare at all.

carmenelectra · 29/12/2007 09:39

dont break that easily. They do have a 2 yr guarantee. Use mine every day and they have only just packed up! DP managed to solder them and they worked again for couple more wks but finally went the other day.

I wouldnt contemplate buying any others!!

carmenelectra · 29/12/2007 09:40

probably depends what type of hair you have. If i got cheaper ones then id have to go over and over to get it straight but maybe if your hair is already straight you would be ok.

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 29/12/2007 09:42

Mine definitely has kinks to it...

I borrowed a friends ghds for a while and loved 'em...but asked DH to buy me fhi for Christmas, because the ghds were so expensive.

They are exactly the same, as far as I can tell. I am so pleased with them, and so glad dh spent £60 instead of £100+

I think these are really good, as a cheaper alternative to the Ghd. I used them for ages but i do have to admit that i did save and got the GHD, and they really are the best but if you are looking for a good straightener to keep you going try them!

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 29/12/2007 09:47

This has to be the last ones, tbh. Bought the Babyliss ones about 3 years ago.

go for ghd you wont be disappointed!

I look back i wonder how i survived before them! My hair was always a state and i used to have it blow dried before i went out. The only time the hairdresser blow dries my hair now is when i have it cut n coloured.

Astrophe · 29/12/2007 09:49

FHI!

Astrophe · 29/12/2007 09:51

AND YOU can use fhi on wet hair too, and they come in pink... bonus

carmenelectra · 29/12/2007 09:51

no one at work even knows my hair is slightly wavy

carmenelectra · 29/12/2007 09:52

edont you know anyone with ghd's just to have a try of?

Watters · 29/12/2007 09:52

Which ever one you do go for, make sure you get a spray in lotion to protect your hair!

carmenelectra · 29/12/2007 09:54

i always use protector. Got some free ghd stuff from my hairdresser and also a bottle with my new straighteners, but normally i use Andrew Collinge spray

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 29/12/2007 09:54

Have the lotion alrady

REALLY want to get some today, not wait for delivery, (I am 3!!) will look in Boots, John Lewis, Toni & Guy, anywhere else?

So, is it GHD's or FHI's?!?!?!?!

OP posts:
Watters · 29/12/2007 09:55

Never tried FHI but i do love my ghd!!!!

Watters · 29/12/2007 09:56

Oh, Nab3, have left a message on your thread re hair colour!

carmenelectra · 29/12/2007 09:57

Need some more supporters for Ghd. tHINK tONI AND gUY should sell decent straighteners. I was gonna get GHD'S from my local salon but would have been well over £100 and i could not wait either! Thats why i ordered them online yesterday. Couldnt face a weekend with my hair a mess!

Astrophe · 29/12/2007 09:57

I honestly believe, having used both, that fhi and ghd come out of the same factory, and that ghd are just far better at marketing, and at exploiting that special niche market of people who actually want to spend more - conspicuous consumption I think its called.

Get the fhi, then go to a cafe and have a nice lunch with the money you saved, then put all the rest of the money you saved in the bank!

carmenelectra · 29/12/2007 09:58

I was so excited when the postman delivered them this am!

Watters · 29/12/2007 09:58

Good luck Nab3!!! Its lashing rain here today so I will be wearing a hat !!!!
