Wondering whether to splash out & try this for my super dry hair. I’ve tried lots of cheaper conditioning treatments but not seen any real improvement so far. Would anyone recommend Phillip Kingsley Elasticizer?

Instead of the elasticiser one I bought the Superdrug argan oil one and had put it on overnight. Worked really well and cheap as chips.

PurpleBirch · 25/01/2022 22:19

I love the PK elasticiser. It makes my coloured hair so soft and shiny. I’d recommend it.

LumosSolem · 25/01/2022 22:19

I really like it- makes my hair feel soft and much less frazzled. It really does feel more 'elastic' after using compared to other conditioning treatments. Although it is very expensive for what it is!

If you do want to try, this is the best value. Massive bottle, on easy payments to spread the cost, and no p&p to pay. Oh and if you don't think it's worth it you can return it even when used:

@PammieDooveOrangeJoof thanks! Not tried that, great price!

I’m sure I only found it as someone recommended it on here before.

minipie · 25/01/2022 22:28

I’ve just bought some but not used it yet

How long do I need to leave it on ? Tub says 20-30 minutes but some reviews say hours??

Accountzero · 25/01/2022 22:30

@PurpleBirch & @LumosSolem thanks, do you use it every time you wash your hair?

TheYellowOne · 25/01/2022 22:32

Sadly it did nothing for my dry, peri menopausal hair. I used it twice a week for month, left it on for 30 mins each time.

PurpleBirch · 25/01/2022 22:34

I use it about once a week. Put it on wet hair, wrap hair in cling film and a warm towel over the top. 10 minutes is enough effect but if I leave it up to an hour it’s even better.

ufucoffee · 25/01/2022 22:37

Only used it once. Left on 29 mins with plastic cap on. It was great. Gave my hair loads of body which lasted the day after too.

WellTidy · 25/01/2022 22:38

I think it’s fantastic. I have very fine coloured hair. I leave it on for about 20 minutes and it makes such a difference. I am out of it and am so tempted by the QVC offer, that’s an excellent price.

LumosSolem · 25/01/2022 22:51

I use it about twice a week as well @Accountzero

I use it for about 20 mins in the bath, or put it on late afternoon and leave for a few hours. The longer the better.

Definitely interested in the Superdrug one though! I don't know if I can justify the price of PK if the Superdrug one is as good.

Slinkymalinky03 · 25/01/2022 23:35

I love it. It makes a real difference to my long, highlighted hair. I leave it on as long as possible, sometimes overnight.

DaveGahansRealWife · 26/01/2022 01:17

If you want something to bring your hair back to life then this

www.lookfantastic.com/shu-uemura-art-of-hair-the-ultimate-duo-for-fine-damaged-hair/12321124.html My hair looks like I am 19 again !

Mrstwiddle · 26/01/2022 02:24

Did nothing for my hair, now I use Olaplex which actually makes a significant difference.

Accountzero · 26/01/2022 06:31

Great to have some recommendations for products that actually work. @Mrstwiddle can I ask what olaplex you use - seems to be a few options when I Google.

OP posts:
PurpleSneakers · 26/01/2022 06:33

Yes I would recommend.
My hair was going through a crisis (dry, lacklustre, frizz, wiry)
I tried Olaplex 3 -worked well the first couple of times and then didn’t work for me
Keratase - didn’t work for me
Gisou mask and oil - expensive waste of money
Aveda Colour Care - some improvement

However, when I found PK Elastizer, things really started to change. I have the Vanilla Mandarin one and my hair hasn’t looked this good in ages. It is shiny, soft and has volume but not too much. My advice - give it a go!

LynetteScavo · 26/01/2022 06:40

I would say go for elasticizer extreme. When I was highlighting my hair it really helped. The Superdrug argon oil one recommended upthread is good, especially for the price but not as good as elasticizer extreme.

LynetteScavo · 26/01/2022 06:43

What also worked really went on my super dry, over processed, hair was bleach London reincarnation mask.

MerylSqueak · 26/01/2022 06:48

I third the superdrug one (although I haven't used PK Extreme). I used the Elasticised for a year and then bought the superdrug one. It's not quite as good, but the difference isn't great enough to get me to buy PK again

psuedocream3 · 26/01/2022 08:01

I have fine, bleached hair and PK is amazing for it. Olaplex leaves my hair greasy and heavy and unmanageable, it's just too heavy for my hair.

Brogues · 26/01/2022 09:34

I really like it on my long fine, static prone hair. You can get a 40ml sample from feel unique Pick & Mix m.feelunique.com/pick-n-mix/

SerendipitySunshine · 26/01/2022 10:03

Silly question, what does it do and how do you use it please? I have some from an advent calendar but not sure where to start!

dudsville · 26/01/2022 10:17

I have it and rate it highly, but haven't used it since trying olaplex shampoo and conditioner and the no 6 leave in stuff. I find that routine easier to fit in to my life. But before olaplex PKE was the only thing that helped.

My hair is fine, but lots of it, and it was so dry that if a hair fell down my top it scratched as if a twig might. I think castor oil is the ingredient that really works in this product, so it is expensive for that.

To use PKE you dampen your hair, not dripping wet, it can be unwashed hair that's ben thoroughly spritzed. Then you apply generous ammounts of the product, making sure to get it worked through. Then pop your hair into a bun. I've tried the minimum suggested times and longer times and haven't seen a worthwhile difference between the two.
