Help a curvy mum with some outfit ideas

I'm a size 12 curvy pear shape. In two weeks time I am going on a reunion type weekend with friends from University but no idea what to wear for the dinner and drinks night out.
Everyone else in the group is super slim, child free and fashionable! I just feel like the frumpy mum! It's not a super fancy occasion I think the others will be wearing "jeans and a nice top"! Inspiration and ideas welcome Grin

Grey mom jeans, gold belt, a top like this and block heel strappy sandals

I'm a pear and with a lighter colour on top / high neck you can't go wrong as it draws the eye up. Mom jeans are super flattering for pears.

TolkiensFallow · 23/01/2022 21:24

@MistySkiesAfterRain that’s a nice top!

MrsH51 · 23/01/2022 22:11

@MistySkiesAfterRain thank you I have never worn high neck before but absolutely love that top I think I will order it and give it a try! Any recommendations where does a good pair of mom jeans, I have one pair but the fit isn't that flattering?

Gold belt idea - www.popsyclothing.co.uk/collections/belts/products/cobalt-popsy-belt

I could never get on with mom jeans. How about a skirt, jumper and flat boots with some chunky jewellery? Something like the link below but in colours that suit you

Ifeellikedancing · 24/01/2022 07:25

I always go wrap dress and either boots or trainers. I don't really do jeans

PartyDilemma6 · 24/01/2022 07:28

I’d go for a nice top/shirt but stick to jeans/skirt you feel comfy. I like this top and these boots

Mom jeans are not flattering for pear shapes in my humble opinion. I speak from experience. Straight leg would be a much better option. M & S have some decent styles at the moment.

Rina66 · 24/01/2022 07:54

I think a slimmer jean is more flattering on a pear shape.

What about an undone or partially undone shirt dress over jeans?

Or a longer length satin shirt? I've got the H & M champagne one below and it's lovely.

If you're definitely going for Mom jeans then I suppose a tighter fitting shirt - I like this Karen Millen pussy bow one in the sale for £59.

I actually haven’t seen many people look good in mom jeans but I think they’re least flattering on pear shapes. I think a straight leg is much more flattering.

MistySkiesAfterRain · 24/01/2022 12:40

The trick is to wear a belt and tuck or half tuck your top in with mom jeans. It accentuates the smaller waist. A darker wash - grey, black, indigo will be much more flattering than a light wash. You also have to balance the proportion with heels or a chunky wide trainer, possibly a lace up flat boot if they are quite slim jeans.

Another good slim one for pears/curves are the Boden girlfriend jean.

I used to wear boot cut and straight slim- the problem with straight slim is I was always hoisting them up. A good boot cut I found was the Next Lift Slim and Shape.

I know most people on here are in love with them, but unless you already know you like yourself in them, I'd give mom jeans a steer. Tapered legs, acres of fabric creating bulk around the lower stomach and the way they stretch tight across the bum if you're curvy, make them very hard to feel good in. I'm curvy, as in 14 inch between my waist and hip, and although I'm small, size 8, mom jeans make me look twice the size and dumpy. If you already have a pair of jeans you feel OK in, wear them, regardless of whether they're supposed to be fashionable or not, and concentrate on getting a lovely top. It's the top half of you that gets seen the most.

HermioneWeasley · 24/01/2022 14:31

Whereabouts in the country are you - London is v casual, Liverpool and Newcastle dinner and drinks would be super glam

MrsH51 · 24/01/2022 20:37

@TheOpenRoad thanks. I love that style of skirt and love pleats but sometimes they make my hips look wider. Perhaps it comes down to the print/colour.

@Ifeellikedancing yes same! I have lots of wrap dresses in the wardrobe so this will be a back up if I can't find anything new!

Girls weekends are a lot more casual nowadays in my opinion (I guess it depends on where you are going) - I bought some stunning pieces from www.charli.com/ I think they're a good mix between casual and chic!

MrsH51 · 25/01/2022 19:18

Thanks all for the suggestions and sorry I haven't yet had the opportunity to reply to every suggestion directly. Following quote a few posters advice I think I may try an alternative cut of jeans the mom jeans don't look great on me, I may order a few different cuts and see how I get on. I have a bit of a c section pouch so think high waisted to tuck it in looks better!
Location is on South East Cost, not mega dressy but still want to feel like I look nice and feel good about myself.

PartyDilemma6 · 25/01/2022 19:36

Not sure of your budget but this kind of thing I think works well with a bit of a c section pouch (have one myself).

5128gap · 25/01/2022 20:48

How about leather (look) leggings? Very popular in my city still, and can dress up or down and with a top length you feel comfortable with. I have some very high waist ones I wear with a short top and blazer if I want extra coverage. They don't add bulk and hold you in like a waist to ankle corset, but very comfy.

Bertiebiscuit · 26/01/2022 17:58

I would say a size 12 is slim, you can wear anything - I'm surprised to see you describing yourself as "curvy" tbh, wear whatever you fancy I'd say

karlakourt · 26/01/2022 18:14

Im a pear

Pleated skirt/elastic waist is a no go.
Mom jeans are a no go

How about midi dress, biker or chelsea boots?

Debbacat6 · 26/01/2022 18:14

Blouse is horrible
Looks like a mini kaftan top for the beach
And quite the wrong season for it anyway
Get lovely sleeveless cashmere top in a light colour and then add a round necked contrast colour cashmere hoodie or cardi.
I beg you do not wear mom jeans esp as you already feel frumpy. Get mini flares or bootlegs in a dark wash and wear with pointy toed Chelsea boots or loafers.
