Never high waisted enough??

Polecat03 · 22/01/2022 17:47

Hello,

I'm wondering if anyone else shares this issue - I think I must have a long torso.

High waisted jeans and trousers never sit at my smallest point, my natural waist. At best, they cover my belly button, but the narrowest point of my waist is a good inch or two higher than that.

I've been trying to educate myself a little about cuts and measurements to remedy this, and from what I can gather, most high waisted garments have a 12 inch rise - that's the rise from crotch to waistband.

I've tried searching for higher than this but getting no where. Most brands don't even list specific measurements like that.

Does anyone else have this problem?
Any brands or specific pieces that worked well?

I'm short of leg, typically 28 inseam. Waist must just sit abnormally high....

Try Levi's rib high. I tried them on today. They came up to above my breasts (I'm pretty small). Nearly left a puddle in the changing room

Polecat03 · 22/01/2022 18:03

@crepuscularshadows
I was hopeful about these, but they too have a standard high waist 12 inch rise, according to the website. So would fit the same as the ill fitting ones in my drawers with a 12 inch rise ☹

Sorry - they were the highest I (accidentally) came across today. Good luck with the search.

Sickoffamilydrama · 22/01/2022 18:15

Could you try a tall/long then get them shortened, I'll measure my M&S long in a little while?

Polecat03 · 22/01/2022 18:36

@sickoffamilydrama
I wasn't sure if that would make a difference to the amount of rise, I thought it was just leg length/inseam that differed in the tall ranges.

Really appreciate you measuring and curious to find out though!

Certainly would be a solution, and worth hemming things if it means getting the right fit in the waist, since that's much more difficult to alter.

I have the opposite problem, high waisted stuff usually sits not far below my bra.... Also my belly button is pretty much level with my waist? Maybe half an inch below? Weird.

Sickoffamilydrama · 22/01/2022 18:43

Okay so I was curious to as love a high waist
M&S Mom 14"
M&S magic slim flare just under 14"
Boden straight leg tie waist 14"
Next skinny flares just under 14"
All are jeans and all are the long version so they must increase the rise as well as the leg length.

museumum · 22/01/2022 18:52

The difference between “petite” and “short” trousers is whether the rise is adjusted or just the leg length so I suspect the same applies to “tall” vs “long”. You might need to buy “tall” and take them up but you’ll need to choose a straight leg or the knee shaping will also be in the wrong place.

Polecat03 · 22/01/2022 18:55

That's exciting - I'll have to get trying some of those on in-store, and practice my hemming!

Might affect the cut to lose so much leg length from a flare, but I could probably get away with it in a straight or wide leg. Thank you so much @sickoffamilydrama

@museumum Yes, you're right, I'll have to take into account which styles I can alter like this without it looking odd. I'm only 5'4" with wee legs.

Following your quest with interest! I'm 5 foot 8 but have the same problem. My torso is long and my belly button and waist is high up.

PaleGreenGhost · 22/01/2022 19:31

... (sent too soon) and high waisted styles rarely reach my waist either.

oviraptor21 · 22/01/2022 19:35

I also have a long torso and find anything which is not on the waist really irritating to wear. Which means that I only rarely wear jeans.
Sounds like giving the long version a try could be the answer - thanks @Sickoffamilydrama

IGoWalkingAfterMidnight · 22/01/2022 19:35

Try vintage reproduction style trousers - Freddies of Pinewood do trousers and jeans, as does Vivien of Holloway, Revival Retro to name a few. Cut for a natural waist so fit far better than 'modern' patterns.

ladygindiva · 22/01/2022 19:40

I've just bought a pair of high waist jeans from George at asda and they really are super high and the only jeans Ive ever found that actually start at my waist. 7 quid in the sale, delighted.

Can you link to them please 😊

Although I am actually in the look out for black work suitable trousers COS look like they have some highwaisted ones.

Glad I could help and I'm not the only one.

I'm loving all the high waist styles around at the moment.

Oh for reference I'm 5'8" with just over a 31" inside leg so that's what I usually look for although the Boden ones are cropped so think a 29/30"

It much better than when low rise was in even though I was younger and slimmer then they did not suit me and there wasn't many shops that did longer leg lengths either.

PaleGreenGhost · 22/01/2022 20:09

Yes same when I was in my 20s and low rise was in I was so slim but didn't realise it because trousers were a nightmare. I had no idea I had a small waist because it wasn't at the top of my trousers.

waitingforsun · 22/01/2022 20:33

I seem to have a long torso. ASOS Farleigh jeans are the only ones I've found that are high waisted enough for me. I have the regular but they also do a tall range which you could try if you're considering hemming.

UsernameInTheTown · 22/01/2022 20:34

Look for 50s Rockabilly clothing shops stc. They do proper high waists.

Insertdeadcatsnamehere · 22/01/2022 20:47

M and S mom jeans, Levis high loose taper, Lucy and Yak Alexas (am 5'9 and have same problem. Legs only 30 inches...am all torso and these all work). If anyone has ever found any sports leggings with a proper high rise I'd be really interested (not Sweaty Betty... they barely reach over my hips and continually fall down!)

FidoRido · 23/01/2022 11:22

This thread is so helpful! I have the exact same problem and spent yesterday evening googling to find an answer, then just stumbled across this while browsing the board. Should have known MN would have the answer! Thank you!

FidoRido · 23/01/2022 20:40

I’ve ordered some of the ASOS farleigh jeans as they’re heavily discounted at the moment. I’ll report back.

MistySkiesAfterRain · 23/01/2022 21:49

Came on to say m&s mom jeans. I am slightly longer in the torse, 5.6, 12-14. I got the 12 Long and they are great.

MistySkiesAfterRain · 23/01/2022 21:50

I wear Decathlon own brand leggings.
