White stuff

Ok maybe it’s the lockdown weight or maybe not…

Is it just me or white stuff much smaller these days. I tried on some size 14 tops and they We’re a) way too short (I’m 5ft 3) and b) a bit snug.

They used to be very generous and if I was feeling a bit plump I’d size up to a 14. Now the 12s won’t even go over one boob. 14s are not that much better and everything is so incredibly short… shirts, jumpers etc

Or do I just need to drop a few pounds?!

I can't comment on the sizing but White Stuff is awful now. Or was it always awful? I started wearing clothes from there after dc1, in 2011. I found their clothes practical and nice for everyday wear. Now it's just frump galore and so very over priced. Some of Sainbury's TU clothes are nicer and better quality for a fraction of the price.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 15/01/2022 15:43

Everything in White Stuff looks kind of limp and thin. Apart from the scratchy jumpers.

feellikeanalien · 15/01/2022 15:46

I noticed that a jumper I bought in there was made in China. I may be deluded but I would have thought for the prices they charge they could source their clothing more locally.

Frump galore 😂😂😂

I was in there just yesterday. My god it was awful, not one single thing I wanted. I used to buy big batches of clothes from there for £100+ and now nothing! Gone completely off just like Boden has. Don't they miss our custom?

Imposter1 · 15/01/2022 16:25

Oh boden is ridiculous too! So expensive. I did get a kids coat there on sale. Was £70 down to £20. Full price they were having a laugh.

These days most of my clothes come from sweaty Betty. Also very expensive. I just feel I don’t fit in anymore. I do like mint velvet but again £150 for a pair of shoes?! Insanity!

My favourite jumper this year is from White Stuff. On its first two outings, I got complimented on it (and I’m no super model).

Not the cheapest of stores, but it has always been overpriced.

Snog · 15/01/2022 19:59

I went in today and there was NOTHING I liked. Not sure who is buying it now.

woodhill · 15/01/2022 20:03

I know what you mean OP

I have ordered a couple of things as I needed a skirt and there are so few around.

I bought a top with a tie neck and the placard was difficult to keep in place itms and I'm sure it's shrunk

AlwaysinaFlap · 16/01/2022 16:42

I live in an affluent SE town and whenever I am in there it is usually ladies in their 60s and 70s.

Shortpoet · 16/01/2022 16:49

I used to love love love White Stuff. I would always ask for vouchers for Christmas and birthday so I could buy throughout the year.

Their autumn and winter stuff used to be gorgeous.

Last few years though it’s been really dingy colours and styles. I can’t find anything I like any more.

Same in my local town. I get stuff in there for my mum.
User6397254 · 16/01/2022 16:53

I'm over 60, I thought it was aimed at my age group, though I haven't bought anything for a while though.

User6397254 · 16/01/2022 16:58

Some of the clothes shrink which puts me off, Seasalt is much better quality and not much more expensive.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 16/01/2022 17:00

Funny you should say that @Imposter1

I bought DH a jumper there for Christmas that was ridiculously small and had to return it.

On reflection I have bought him things there before and he, annoyingly, has not gained any lockdown weight!!

SilverGlassHare · 16/01/2022 17:01

I’ve really gone off it recently. There’s the occasional thing I like and I still wear their Olivia tights but nearly all of it is really not to my taste. I hate shapeless baggy crewneck jumpers in garish colours and most of it seems to be that kind of thing.

woodhill · 16/01/2022 17:02

Yes I've gone onto Seasalt mainly. I used to love WS

The shirts are usually ok from WS and are mainly cotton. I'm wearing a plain jumper from them from a couple of years ago

I did buy a lovely blue velvet dress in a WS outlet for under £20 recently

Fat face has also become drab

I think most of the fashion isn't that great now overall

That’s my recent experience of both WS and Boden too.
OnaBegonia · 16/01/2022 18:30

Fat face I think are similar but a bit more up to date, Brakeburn are similar style and good quality.

ApolloandDaphne · 16/01/2022 18:54

I am almost 60 and for many years White Stuff, Fat Face and Seasalt made up most of my wardrobe. I now find them frumpy even for me. I much prefer Uniqlo to anything else at the moment. Nice classic items in fine cotton or wool are what I like.

NewPage · 16/01/2022 18:57

Bought stuff in the sale and everything went back except for a cord pinafore. All very thin wool, weird sizing and cheaply made.

NinaProudman2022 · 16/01/2022 19:16

I am mid 50’s and about 3 years ago I loved a lot of the colours and prints in WS but looked online during lockdown and since and all the colours and prints are drab and dowdy and don’t even look good on the photos or models so haven’t bought a thing.

EllaPaella · 16/01/2022 19:21

I used to love White Stuff up until about 2010 then it seemed to change completely. I have always found them to have quite small sizing compared to other stores but that's probably just because so many labels subscribe to vanity sizing.

How awful, old people in a shop.
AlwaysinaFlap · 19/01/2022 02:22

@ButtonSister where did I say that?
PS You don't know how old I am...maybe they are young to me!
