Help needed to find a non-wedding dress wedding dress

I hope you lot can help me - I'm getting married for the second time this summer and don't really know what to wear. We're going to have a relaxed informal wedding party a few days after we get married in a registry office so I'm not looking for a proper wedding dress but I'd like to wear something special.

I'm early 50s, 5 foot 5, and size 12 - my middle is much bigger than it used to be so am a bit confused about what suits me these days. I'm hoping to lose a bit of weight by the summer but probably best to avoid things with a skinny/fitted waist. My legs are ok.

I'd like something that I feel comfortable in, that makes me feel like it's a special day and is ok for my age without being frumpy! I'll post a few pictures of things I like but I'm not sure if they'd be ok. Some of them are more money than I want to spend. Budget ideally no more than £300.

Thank you!

The Vivienne Westwood dress is beautiful! Would something like this work?

If you’re concerned about your middle don’t think the westwood dress will work.

Dozer · 08/01/2022 17:59

Reckon there’ll be other good options

I suspect I might be looking at things that I know would have suited me when I was younger and more svelte! I don’t really know how to dress for my expanded middle.
How about something from Nancy Mac?

They have some pretty looking dresses but they look like they sort of emphasise the tummy area. Not sure they'd be flattering on me

@KittenCatcher

Would you consider renting a dress from mywardrobehq
I would if it was the right thing. But ideally I'd like to buy something that I might be able to wear again.

Did I say it doesn't have to be white?!

Rent a dress like Carrie Johnson www.mywardrobehq.com/wedding-dress-edit
I quite like the first one of those.

I do like this one by the same designer: www.johnlewis.com/adrianna-papell-floral-gown-rose-multi/p5658246

@pansypotter123

Do you know a dressmaker who could copy the Vivienne Westwood dress?
No, but I'm sure I could find one - if I knew it would actually suit me!!! I guess I'd have to try it on really to know.

The one with a cape looks nice. I think it might be more wedding-y than I'd imagined though.

That's lovely - I think it might be too fitted though. I'm going to have a good look on that website though.

I'm even more confused now!!!

I like the front of it but no so keen on the big sailor collar thing on the back.

I got married in a black Phase Eight dress which was very forgiving because it was stretchy and also had a beautiful texture. I was just idly googling and saw this - a wild card maybe, compared to the others?
