Do you prefer sponge or fingers for foundation?

I’ve just received some Il Makiage foundation and it says to blend with brush or sponge (not fingers).

I find the sponges soak up loads of product?

And any other tips for application please?

I got the recommended brush but it was also shite with that foundation.

I don't rate it at all, wears really badly, takes a good 4 pumps for even coverage and separates round my nose and mouth. In fairness, I didn't send it back but left an honest review and they sent me vouchers to the value of the cost and I got some really lovely lipsticks from them. Their customer service is excellent

I usually use a beauty blender and either Maybelline 24(30h now!) Superstay foundation for day to day/work or beauty blender and Armani Luminous silk foundation for going out etc

Are you wetting the sponge so it is fully expanded before use? That should prevent it from soaking up the product because it's full of water.

Comedycook · 05/01/2022 20:31

I've tried a foundation brush, a sponge, a wet sponge and I still think fingers are best for applying foundation. I actually think it's more hygienic too...much easier to wash hands thoroughly than brushes or sponges.

SilverGlassHare · 05/01/2022 20:35

I use my fingers - I wash and dry my hands, then put my make up on. I found that unless I was washing my sponges really well every day, I was getting spots.

I bought a silicone sponge from Primark. It doesn't absorb any foundation.

Joxster · 05/01/2022 20:39

Brush to spread it over evenly and fingers to blend. Or fingers if I’m being really lazy!

userxx · 05/01/2022 20:39

Mac brush.

Comefromaway · 05/01/2022 20:40

I find a stipple brush the best.

Gonnagetgoing · 05/01/2022 20:46

Definitely fingers. Sometimes brush

SpookyScarySkeletons · 05/01/2022 21:04

I prefer a brush

www.thebodyshop.com/en-gb/makeup/makeup-brushes-and-tools/fresh-nude-foundation-brush/p/p003703 I use this foundation brush for foundation. It has long and shorter bristles.

Lacedwithgrace · 05/01/2022 21:06

Properly dampened sponge. If it's soaking up product you're not using it right!

Littleguggi · 05/01/2022 21:06

Mostly fingers, for everyday light coverage.
Brush for heavier coverage.
Not sure what the science says but that works for me!

I swear by real technique expert face brush! Have used it for years. I never got on with beauty blenders and absolutely hate using fingers, don't think they work at all!

MissMaple82 · 05/01/2022 21:36

Neither, a brush instead

I use a brush or sponge, but I really didn't like IM foundation. Feel stupid for accidentally buying into their Instagram hype!

ElinorOliphant · 05/01/2022 21:54

Think I’ll try a few different ways (again!).
Wetter sponge…
Or brush (I have the Mac one).
For some reason Il Makiage don’t recommend fingers 🤷‍♀️

I always used fingers and found the sponges didn’t work, till my daughter said “are you setting the sponge”. I wasn’t, wet the sponge is so much better than fingers and gives a smoother airbrushed look.

DaisyMum40 · 05/01/2022 22:51

I use a flat foundation brush. Would like to know how you get on with the foundation, it's constantly popping up on my newsfeed.

Me too. It’s a great brush. I’ve got three so I can wash them after one use.
DukeofEarlGrey · 05/01/2022 22:59

Always fingers. I've tried all manner of brushes, sponges etc. over the years and am convinced the brands only insist on them because a0 they make them themselves so can sell you another product and b) they soak up much more foundation so you run out sooner.

Damn I'm getting cynical in my old age Grin

gogohm · 05/01/2022 23:02

I use a brush

They should always have a foundation of sponge fingers. (I really fancy a sponge finger straight out of the pack now, haven't had one for years).

To the OP - fingers, don't like the feel of sponge on my face.
