Do you prefer sponge or fingers for foundation?

I’ve just received some Il Makiage foundation and it says to blend with brush or sponge (not fingers).

I find the sponges soak up loads of product?

And any other tips for application please?

My tip.. soak your sponge (I use an egg shaped) in setting spray for makeup

Apply foundation
Thank me later Wink

I mostly use fingers but will use a brush for a night out. Sponges just seem like a waste of product.

@Pegasussnail I’ll give that a go,thanks!

I just did a search on You Tube of the foundation brush I have and there was a quick tip/tutorial from Wayne Goss… I’ve been using it wrong so will try his technique a go.

@Bluntness100

I always used fingers and found the sponges didn’t work, till my daughter said “are you setting the sponge”. I wasn’t, wet the sponge is so much better than fingers and gives a smoother airbrushed look.
I do find this adorable. Our daughters are teaching us so much.

I much prefer a sponge, I use the Laura Mercier ones. I confess I don't wash them very often but I don't get spots so I assume it's not a problem. I have a brush that works well too but the sponge is quicker.

Real techniques face brush

I use both a damp sponge or a kabuki brush. I never use my fingers as I believe the finish isn't as good and you end up using more product. I put my used sponges in the washing machine (they come out as new) so I only use each once before they go in the laundry basket. For brushes, I spot clean them with 99.9% isopropyl alcohol after each use and then once a week or so I wash them properly (oil and fairy liquid). Easy peasy.

I work in beauty and use clean fingers. A sponge for powder if I use it. The one tip I would say is dot foundation on the high points of your face and blend from the nose out. Pump once, you can always add more.

Brush followed by sponge. Brushes are OK but you can end up with lines. A sponge leaves it all looking lovely ime.

The words 'sponge' and 'fingers' jumped out at me and now I'm a bit disappointed this thread is not about trifle! Grin

LordEmsworth · 10/01/2022 09:41

Stipple brush, then fingers to warm it up & blend it in. Fingers are ok but the brush gives a more polished & natural look

To be honest love I like fresh sponge in my trifle, however dried sponge fingers do in a pinch. Don’t forget to live laugh love huns. Xxx
