What to buy in M&S

I was given a gift card, £50. What would you spend it on?

Early 40s, size 8. Happy to add to the amount.

Definitely won’t buy underwear or PJs but open to other suggestions! Any gems I’m missing or should I go for a cashmere sweater?

Ankle boots, socks, tights, size-up two sizes on the cashmere jumpers, cashmere scarves.
I have some silk wool trousers that are cut well too.
Candles.

Wagsandclaws · 03/01/2022 21:09

I bought the leather dress/jacket/shaket in tan featured in that link upthread and I've worn it so much.

I have worn it over outfits as a coat and also with wool tights as a dress. It's honestly divine and well worth the £250 price tag. It'll last forever years and is so versatile - it's available in black too,

I love their cashmere, I've bought joggers and a hoody and it's so soft and comfortable, washes beautifully as well.

Silk dresses and trousers have been amazing I'm really loving their their boots, real designer vibes and very good quality.

Can you tell I really rate m and s atm? Grin

@RomainingCalm

I know you said no to underwear but my best recent buy from M&S was a full-length 'stay cool' slip to wear under dresses. I did wonder for a minute whether I was turning into my granny but clothes honestly do hang better and it's lovely and soft next to skin.
Beat me to it ! I have 2 of these stay cool slips and seriously my dresses feel better with these underneath plus they feel lovely to wear

Merino jumper

Beauty stuff

I’d be very disappointed with an M&S voucher because everything, food through to knickers, is seriously overpriced.

Honestly, why would you even say this? Even if M&S is overpriced (I don't think it is), a £50 gift voucher gives you £50 of free goodies. Surely that's only disappointing if you hate everything they sell.

blibblibs · 03/01/2022 22:51

I bought a lovely grey hoodie from the autograph collection with my £50 voucher.
More than I'd usually spend on a hoodie, but it wasn't my money and it has pockets!
Agree the jeans are good, I have a couple of pairs of lily, sienna and the Harper's.

Babymamamama · 03/01/2022 22:55

I was in a very large store only yesterday. I didn’t buy anything but if I had I would have got perfume. They had some seriously nice smells all different brands and none too too pricey.

Rina66 · 03/01/2022 23:04

I really like their ankle boots, there are some lovely chunky sole khaki green suede ones in the sale.

BodgertheJogger · 03/01/2022 23:06

Thermal tights

1stWorldProblems · 03/01/2022 23:41

They stock a number of non-M&S brands on their website now as well as their own stuff - I got a gorgeously soft green leather Sosandar dress them recently.
Plus fab black high waisted jeans with silver glitter (that's not flaking off) down the seams. I also find their heeled ankle boots everyday comfortable. If you have small-ish feet (up to size 6) then their kids socks are a better fit than the adult ones & more fun.

Because that’s how I would feel 🤷‍♀️
Could get an awful lot more value out of £50 elsewhere without compromising quality. I do think everything is overpriced for what it is.

You don’t. Fair enough. Each to their own.

SummerOfComedy · 04/01/2022 10:28

I love their Sienna jeans.
They fit so well. Higher on the waist and the material is stretchy with a soft feel.
They are the most comfortable jeans I have ever worn.
And they wash beautifully as well.
£18, five or six different colours and different leg lengths.
Just great!

LivingDeadGirlUK · 04/01/2022 11:53

I would personally get a perfume as I don't really need anything else at the moment but I do rate their shoes, jeans and workwear. I've got a merino wool jumper from their Collection label and its ridiculusly soft and comfy but gosh its bobbling when I look at it I think. Maybe it needs a wash to calm it down but I'm not sure I would buy full price.

Supersimkin2 · 04/01/2022 11:58

Cashmere is delish at the mo - Remus, maybe you must hv got a duff one.

LadyNell · 04/01/2022 11:58

Another vote for Sienna jeans, I'm tempted to try the boyfriend jeans

Callmecordelia · 04/01/2022 12:19

I'm wearing my Sienna jeans at the moment. Love them, have two pairs.

RampantIvy · 04/01/2022 13:14

Have Sienna replaced the Sophia Straight?

Lipsandlashes · 04/01/2022 15:10

I usually wear the Ivy jeans but now I’m really tempted to try the Sienna. I also recently bought two pairs of the Jeggings and they are so soft and comfortable

Leftbutcameback · 04/01/2022 15:12

I’d treat myself to some nice food and drink, the stuff you wouldn’t usually buy for yourself, or some of their beauty stuff which is great value

LookItsMeAgain · 04/01/2022 15:25

For £50 I'd get a leather handbag. I've bought many leather bags from M&S and they really wear well and stand the test of time.
Would something like this be of interest to you:

UnOeufIsEnough · 04/01/2022 15:57

@leotardrock

Their GoodMove gym stuff is great!
100% agree
LumosSolem · 04/01/2022 17:27

@LookItsMeAgain I have the black version of that bag and it's lovely, really good quality and amazing for the price. I didn't really get the comment by a pp about it not being good value for money at m&s, I find the opposite to be true

RampantIvy · 04/01/2022 17:35

I didn't really get the comment by a pp about it not being good value for money at m&s, I find the opposite to be true

I agree. I guess it depends on what you can afford though.

LumosSolem · 04/01/2022 17:38

@RampantIvy oh I totally get it if it's not affordable but actual value for money I think is good because it's good quality

prampushingdownthehighst · 04/01/2022 17:39

Yes another vote for their Sienna jeans and I would treat myself to a few Rosie bras, most comfortable I've worn.

RustyBear · 04/01/2022 17:41

@RampantIvy

Have Sienna replaced the Sophia Straight?
No, I have both, bought around the same time. Personally I prefer the Sophia, they are softer and a bit more relaxed, but both are really nice.
