For those that asked about the Epsom Salt trick

I can't seem to find the thread but I've been tagged in it a few times.

It's very simple, if I'm feeling bloated or I just have a night out or whatever the next day, I buy those bags of Epsom salts from Boots or wherever and run a hot bath. Tip in half (if I'm feeling bloated I tip in the whole lot but I am hardcore like that) and just soak in the water for at least 20 minutes ideally 30. That's it.
The next day you will fit into whatever dress or outfit and just be generally depuffed. It's a trick all the Oscars or awards ceremony celebs use and yes of all it costs a couple of quid (cheaper on Amazon actually)
This is what I use:

Not the point of the original post (good tip, thanks) but it’s totally safe to bathe in Epsom salts. Aside from the mass deficiency and transdermal absorption points already mentioned, magnesium is good for muscle aches, migraines and insomnia. I use them all the time and doctors are very much unconcerned by it.

isthismylifenow · 01/01/2022 17:21

We have Epsom salt baths quite a lot, maybe I have not added enough as I haven't noticed less of a bloat, I am an ibs sufferer.

But we usually have them for muscle aches, my dc are quite sporty so they help. And we also use Epsom salts if we have had too much sun. Fwiw dd usually washes her hair in the ES bath and it is always so super soft and shiny after.

Thanks for the tip.

mylovelydd · 01/01/2022 17:28

@ABitOfAShitShow I do sleep much better after an epsom bath ( it makes sense because some people use magnesium to get good sleep, I always associated the nice sleep I had after magnesium on the fact it made my restless legs stop but this makes sense) and my aching back is always eased after one.
I also quite like the newer ones with lavender etc in, this one is so lovely it smells divine but you have to like lavender:

Oh that sounds nice, OP. Might see if I can grab some at the sainsburys down the road.

mylovelydd · 01/01/2022 18:32

@ABitOfAShitShow I got mine in B&M I think it was cheaper than Sainsbury's - will look on Tuesday. Westlab also do Himalayan salt bags and Dead Sea Salts but I mix those in sometimes with the epsom but I'm not so sure what properties those bring. I definitely reduce the epsom when I do though 😁 I'm still alive anyway!

Has anyone done the Epsom salt cleanse?? This is when you drink it and it cleans your clock Smile

mylovelydd · 01/01/2022 18:37

@CeCeSchmidt

Hexeal are good for Epsom salts at a fraction of that price
and @RestingMurderousFace thank you so much for the recommendation. I have a bag in my basket but I have no idea where I am going to put it. What a great site! Flowers

@shoebag I don't think I'd dare 😬 I can imagine it would be a day at home though 😩😂

My osteopath recommends Epsom salt baths for muscle and joint ache. Didn't know they depuff you! I use them all the time. Not sure I've noticed being less puffy 🤣

NanaRant · 01/01/2022 19:15

Epsom salts are fab for detox and bicarbonate of soda helps the magnesium absorb. I buy big tubs of each from Amazon.

Look up Magnesium Miracle, Dr Carolyn Dean. You'll never look back :-)

Twatforaneighbour · 01/01/2022 19:54

This is a really interesting thread and has backed up information Ive recently read showing many people are deficient in a lit of trace minerals.

@NanaRant, do you add the bicarb to your bath with the epsom salts?

I did also read that it was important to wash salts off your skin (if you have a shower attachment) at the end of your bath but can't remember why, does anyone have any info on this?

NanaRant · 01/01/2022 19:57

I don't wash anything off @twatforaneighbour. Yes, add bicarb of soda with the epsom salts

ABitOfAShitShow · 01/01/2022 20:45

I don’t rinse myself off either. No idea if you’re supposed to because I wouldn’t do it anyway ( —lazy— not one for faff). Grin

ABitOfAShitShow · 01/01/2022 20:45

Can anyone tell me why strike through doesn’t work on my bloody phone?!

Happyface120 · 01/01/2022 21:07

This is interesting, I love a salt bath after a long run, but have also noticed that if I add too much (more than half a bag) I get the shits quite spectacularly

DinoDora · 02/01/2022 07:16

My friends and I got a x3 session deal on a new flotation tank place back in the early 00s.

It's basically exceptionally concentrated magnesium (Epsom salts), far more than you'd manage with a bag in a bath.

It was so concentrated You'd float for an hour in the tank.

We'd have a meal together afterwards at each other's houses and I do remember floating around Sainburies in a daze. It used to make us dopey and we'd sleep really well. Didn't bloat back then so can't comment! Don't remember feeling dehydrated.

So I think a bag in the bath is fine. I e often felt a cup is too little. I now use home made spray (different type of magnesium) and spray all over a couple of times a day.

If anything a hot bath for too long can be bad for blood pressure. The tanks were body temp.

The Rodin salts trick Washington the Girl Guide Annual in about 1981!

GoodnightGrandma · 02/01/2022 07:55

I have Epsom salt baths but I’m never any thinner when I get out.

If it’s an iPhone you need to use the formatting tool circle thing under the message box.

There are 4 circles under the message box (Smiely, italic, @ and paper clip).
Click on the Italic
Choose the strike through option
Type in the middle of the dashes

ABitOfAShitShow · 02/01/2022 12:59

@IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads oh you legend! Thanks. Ashamed to say I thought I was supposed to actually type the dashes - which is what didn’t work.

I’ve only been on here for YEARS. 😂

hivemindneeded · 02/01/2022 13:01

Poundland sells perfectly nice ones in lavender or eucalyptus. £1 a bag.

I use them because they ease muscle stress after a strenuous workout, but tbh, I've never noticed a weight drop/water retention drop from them. Maybe I need to use more at a time.

You used to type the dashes, a dub think you can on Android, but MN Tech and Apple aren’t compatible, so they added the formating tool thing.

Fantastic thread!! I have a Westlab bag already!!
