Coat dilemma (/ wine fuelled decision making)

If you lived in the depths of the country, with messy children and muddy dogs (but did occasionally do nice things and go to work meetings where dressing in something other than wellies and a Barbour jacket was appropriate), and on average bought yourself a new wool coat appropriately once every 10 years, would you buy this one in sand or navy Grin?! www.sezane.com/en/product/johnson-coat/navy#size-10

Ooh I love it - is the right answer both? Grin

Sand is the least practical for your lifestyle, but more versatile for outfits as long as you’ll only wear it for smarter (dog/child free occasions). It’s also more striking I think!

Navy is probably more practical, although it can be more limiting to combine with certain outfits (depending on where you lie on the wearing navy & black debate).

Gorgeous choice, either way

Magicshoppingtrolley · 30/12/2021 18:35

Gorgeous coat! Similar lifestyle here - definitely the navy.

Zusername · 30/12/2021 18:37

Navy definitely! Dog is bound to jump up if you get the sand one, they sense these things.

StrongSunglasses · 30/12/2021 18:38

Navy

JustLikeaJingleBell · 30/12/2021 18:43

Lovely coat and yes I'd also get it in Navy. First though I'd have a good look around to see what similar coats are around to compare. I'd prefer a tighter weave as it were though

JustLikeaJingleBell · 30/12/2021 18:46

It's just the grey that looks different weave wise.

Yes it's a lovely coat. The burgundy is very nice

Beeth0ven · 30/12/2021 18:50

YOU NEED THEM BOTH

DariaMorgendorffer · 30/12/2021 18:55

Beautiful coat. Navy.

NanooCov · 30/12/2021 18:55

I like the burgundy and the camel so am clearly of no use! Lovely coat though.

Kitkat151 · 30/12/2021 19:01

Navy or camel...the sand one looks cheap

Cactuslockdown · 30/12/2021 19:02

Love both, navy sensible option but I’d be tempted for sand (but have sand coloured ddog!!)

Greyhare · 30/12/2021 19:02

What colour is the dog and does he shed? if light coloured go for the sand, if dark go for the navy.

madisonbridges · 30/12/2021 19:05

It's really nice. Perfect coat for travelling in. I'm looking for something similar but at a quarter the cost.

Navy's lovely but my white dog precludes that!

HelpWithWhereToStart · 30/12/2021 19:15

Thanks everyone. Dog colour is a good point. We have 2 and they are both light (pale golden retrievers), and also a light-ish grey cat. But oh, so muddy… and I do occasionally pick up from
school directly on the way home from work (children also seem to get very muddy / painty / snotty….).

This seems to be a Sezane staple (I couldn’t justify it last year, but am delighted that it’s still around), so maybe one for now and one next year… 😆.

Head is leaning towards navy though - pet hair brushes off, mucky paw and hand prints less so?!

I'm a lover of all things navy and I love this coat in navy too but I think the sand colour looks so much more chic for dressing up.

madisonbridges · 30/12/2021 19:19

I have a black wool windsmoor coat. It's my best buy and I love it. But pet hair is dire. It doesn't just brush off, it weaves it's way through the material. Ugh. How does it do that? But the navy is my favourite colour.

StiltonIsLife · 30/12/2021 19:21

Navy! If it was available in tan, it would be my 1st choice. Sand wouldn't look good on me, but depends on your colouring as well.

Newchallenge · 30/12/2021 19:23

I love the sand one, as impractical as it might be, if it's only for occasional office wear / going out, does it matter?
I have a long camel version bought decades ago that I don't wear much in case it gets dirty

Hoolihan · 30/12/2021 19:25

The sand is beeyyoooootiful, as is the camel. Navy nice too but not as special imo.

Moonflower12 · 30/12/2021 19:26

I really like the burgundy one...

HelpWithWhereToStart · 30/12/2021 19:29

Oh, now you are now help! Heart definitely says sand. Burgundy doesn’t (always) suit me, and my current “good” coat is camel so I fancy a change.

Either sand or navy should be fine with my colouring (very very pale, mid brown hair), so that doesn’t help a decision… either way it will be kept in my wardrobe upstairs, where animals are not allowed!

Lovewineandchocolate · 30/12/2021 19:42

Love these
The navy looks very elegant, but with a white dog, I'd have to go for the sand coloured one

belimoo · 30/12/2021 20:14

I am also on the wine so you should probably disregard anything I say.

For what it's worth I think you should buy both as it's a beautiful coat in both colours. But my actual advice really depends on what coats your already own.

Without that information I would say buy sand. But if you can, please also buy navy.

belimoo · 30/12/2021 20:15

*what coats you already own

Gah, told you I was on the wine.

liveforsummer · 30/12/2021 20:26

Definitely the sand - I disagree the dog hair will just brush off the coat any more than (dry) mud or hand prints will. The baby is nice but the sand is way more special plus will go with way more
