On the back of the mums boot thread, dear S&B experts, do these get a style thumbs ups or down? Or just meh?

I'd say they're a safe middle ground. Not the height of fashion, but not super frumpy either.

cruffin · 28/12/2021 09:24

I think they are a bit frumpy

Are these nicer?

First ones on the frumpy side of dull. Second ones slightly better. Neither are hideous, in fact fairly unremarkable.

milkysmum · 28/12/2021 09:52

They are both 'ok', not hideous- but definitely not worth paying that money for in my opinion.

fantasmasgoria1 · 28/12/2021 09:54

To me they are quite frumpy and boring.

Journeynotdestination · 28/12/2021 09:58

They aren’t grumpy, just classic. If you want a more fashionable look, the. Celtic & Co biker boots are good.

Frumpy 😂

The Clarks ones are both meh/frumpy to me.

These ones are much nicer, if I had this budget to spend I’d much prefer these!

MONSTERSALAD · 28/12/2021 10:04

The first ones have been around forever - I used to have a pair. They were okay, but not tall enough on my shins so they cut across at a really unflattering point of my calf.

I don't like the second because they're so shaped. What if you don't have shapely enough calves and they're just flapping around your legs?

My best knee high boots are Oliver II from Moshulu - they're quite tall and lace up the back for a perfect fit Smile

Covidclaire · 28/12/2021 10:06

I think with boots like these it totally depends what you wear them with more than the boots itself. But they do seem expensive for Clarks.

onedayoranother · 28/12/2021 12:48

both Clark boots look like riding boots - a classic like a navy blazer or waxed jacket. Not frumpy, but not cutting edge either. Like I said - a classic.

bluesky45 · 28/12/2021 13:19

I got these boots for Christmas, hope they aren't frumpy, I'm only 29! 😂
I like them, obviously! I'll only be wearing with dresses though, I wear mid calf boots with jeans.
I would say they are very skinny round the ankle. I don't usually have to buy wide fit but I did in these

Normski67 · 28/12/2021 13:31

I think the seconds pair are nicer looking.

Cam22 · 28/12/2021 13:34

They’re not “frumpy” - they’re fine.
shrug

Some of those describing them as frumpy, probably like this sort of styleeeeee:

Hmmmmmmmmm…

liveforsummer · 28/12/2021 13:39

Not frumpy exactly but tbh they look a bit naff. If you like that style look at equestrian/country brands and you'll get a more classic, sturdy and timeless look for less money.

Bavarois · 28/12/2021 13:47

Oh I don't like either, sorry. These are sort of similar but nicer IMO.

Heads up, I got the Celtic&Co boots posted upthread and they are sooo slim on the calf. I'm a 6-8 with slim legs and struggle to zip them up.

CalamityJane2022 · 28/12/2021 13:53

First pair are a definite thumbs down, second pair are better.

CalamityJane2022 · 28/12/2021 13:55

I prefer the Jones boots Bavarois posted.

nordica · 28/12/2021 13:59

The first ones are very classic in that my mum wore something very similar back in the 1990s and I feel like they've been around ever since with just small changes to the style.

I prefer the look of the second ones you linked to. Depends on what you wear in general though and what your style is like.

BusterGonad · 28/12/2021 14:04

The Clarks ones are a bit boring the Jones ones are lovely imo.

liveforsummer · 28/12/2021 14:04

These would be a more modern/ on trend version. More practical for winter too with the thicker, grippy sole

A bit op yes

I prefer these

VanillaAndOrange · 28/12/2021 15:43

I like the tan better than the black, but the black aren't horrible, they're just not really my style.

The ones journeynotdestination linked to are lovely.

ambereeree · 28/12/2021 16:03

@Cam22 my thoughts exactly.
Both boots are fine OP. I like them and prefer a plain style of boot.
