What face/ body type looks best with short hair?

I have been thinking about chopping my hair off recently. I used to have short (pixie) and medium-short (bob) haircuts in my 20s but I am now in my mid-30s so I am not sure if short hair would still suit me as it did back then.

What are, in your opinion, the facial and body characteristics that make a woman look better with short hair vs long hair?

Just want to add that I'm also loving my undercut at the moment - feels fantastic.

I think a short haircut cut by a good hairdresser that cuts hair to take advantage of the natural state of the hair always looks better on all women than long hair that has been dyed and straightened into submission.

Assuming the OP has a hairdresser she trusts she should just go for a change. Changing hairstyles is fun (mine is a short wavy bob at the moment after a few years prepandemic of a short pixie, and I've a couple of decades on the OP, I'll no doubt go super short again some time in the future).

@TheRealProfessorYaffle and @wonderstuff have said it best. Anyone can have short hair if that is what they want.

My hair has been short for years, but now it is really short - and I love it. So easy, and no faffing about, and it takes minutes to dry (naturally). I couldn't care less if anyone thinks my face and body aren't "right" for my hair - I've too many other interesting things to think about.

This sort of comment often comes up on MN and I mentioned it to my hairdresser a couple of weeks ago - you should have seen the face he pulled! People who boast they only get their hair cut once a year - we can tell you do. All hair needs regular trimming, not just short (although it does need it more frequently).

I went very short a few years back. Loved it.

I think you would look great with one.

But as PP said you need a really good stylist who is confident it what they do. Spend a bit of time gathering a few ideas together - the gut instinct of "Yep, like" and "No, hate". Don't think about it too much. Or even worry about whether it would suit you/your face/your hair. Just get a clear idea of what you like (for example long fringes, micro fringes, shaved sides, longer sides etc) and what you hate (pouffy crowns/sideburns) Then have a proper discussion with your stylist. You may love a long fringe - but maybe your hair type/cowlick wouldn't work - but a sideswept long fringe would.

And please come back with a pic when you have done it.

I don't think it would suit you. I think it would make your features seem a bit masculine. The only women I've seen it look good on have very small feminine features.

I have over the last year put on 2 stone and it really shows in my face

My hair does not suit me as much as I felt it used to

I hate it but until I can do something about it , I don't feel my pixie looks the best at all
