Really classic designer bag?

After a crappy year, I want to buy myself a really classic small crossbody bag. That'll be like my grab and go everyday bag to replace my current one I have.

I want something really classy, designer, something that makes you feel powerful but doesn't break the back too hard!

I have never owed a designer before. So break me in gently.
I really like Mulberry just not sure. Thoughts?

I love my small Mulberry Amberley. Surprised that nobody (I don't think) has mentioned APC's demi lune. Not mega expensive, but cool and tres Parisienne.

If you have the budget personally I would go for Chanel. They're resale value is fantastic and their value actually goes up over time, so it definitely counts as an investment. And you can't really get more classic than Chanel.

I think their bags are lovely. I've bought one in the sale which is a evening bag so not alot of wear. I have 2 wallets too. Not much use from larger one as it's heavy and I prefer smaller one.
I have my eye on another bag but waiting for sale.
