Really classic designer bag?

After a crappy year, I want to buy myself a really classic small crossbody bag. That'll be like my grab and go everyday bag to replace my current one I have.

I want something really classy, designer, something that makes you feel powerful but doesn't break the back too hard!

I have never owed a designer before. So break me in gently.
I really like Mulberry just not sure. Thoughts?

I have three mulberry's, all black, Bayswater, Antony and darley. I use bays for work, Antony at weekends and darley for when I go put in the evening. I love mulberry. It doesn't shout designer and they are well made. I've had my bays for over ten years, used it everyday, and it still looks like new. Think about when you will use it. Do you want it for work, everyday use or an evening clutch.

That sounds like a great idea! I don’t work so no need for a Bayswater but am interested in the other two bags. Sadly I’m not close to a Mulberry stockist to actually see the bags. What size Antony do you have? Do you find weight an issue at all? I’m not sure if I’d find the small Antony too small.

I have the smaller Antony. It fits a purse, phone, glass case and keys. All I need to go shopping with really x

No issue with weight as I wear it across the body. I must admit the Bayswater is heavy .

I bought a Gucci Disco a few months ago and I absolutely love it. It's a bit of a tardis - very practical. Bright red too so lovely and cheery!

Another Mulberry suggestion. Affordable for a top tier brand and do fashion or classics depending on what style you go for

OP yo won’t go wrong with Mulberry and they currently have a sale on. Their bags are beautiful and classic.

Other brands you could look at - Strathberry and deMellier London.

I have:

A small tan Gucci soho disco - I use it for both day (when I don't need to carry a tonne of stuff!) and evening, it's my go to bag.

A YSL toy Lou Lou - I mainly keep this for evening as I don't want to bulk it out too much

A Mulberry Hampstead in oxblood - I don't think they do these any more, but it's my autumn/winter go to as I love the colour and it holds a decent amount in it

I also just got a Mulberry Iris hobo in dark green for Christmas but obviously haven't used it yet. It's a really good size, smaller than my Selby, but still idea for day time use

I do have a slight handbag problem!

@MsSquiz I love the Hampstead! I was lusting over a bright red one for a while. I already have an ox blood Tessie satchel and a rust coloured Leighton, I love them both.

@expatmigrant I have a DeMellier in Oxblood, it’s sort of a crescent shape (I got it in the sale last year but can’t remember the name now and they no longer sell it) Anyway I really like it; the leather is lovely and I got the complementary monogramming on the strap. I’ll definitely buy another DeMellier soon - I’m very tempted by the Midi Venice.

I’ve got an Anthony in tan. I’ve had it 5 years and still love it. Fits all of my essentials. Less used these days with a baby and a toddler.

I like demellier bags, I'm not into LV logos etc so bit more understated. I have older bag from them (before they changed name) still in good condition even if it was my work bag for a long time. Recently bought midi venice and it's lovely, also nice colour.
