Really classic designer bag?

OneGlamMama · 24/12/2021 19:46

After a crappy year, I want to buy myself a really classic small crossbody bag. That'll be like my grab and go everyday bag to replace my current one I have.

I want something really classy, designer, something that makes you feel powerful but doesn't break the back too hard!

I have never owed a designer before. So break me in gently.
I really like Mulberry just not sure. Thoughts?

That’s lovely!

mrsnw · 28/12/2021 17:20

Lush x

Puffalicious · 28/12/2021 17:33

Now that Oprey Milano might just suit my needs! Thank you.

oneglassandpuzzled · 28/12/2021 20:15

They’re nice, aren’t they!

I think people do look very one dimensionally at bags. If they see plenty about, then that’s the best one to get. I have a Gucci with a bamboo handle. Either you know it’s a Gucci or you don’t. But it’s a classic. It has no logo to say what it is. But it has the handle.

I think magazines are quite useful when looking at newer or less obvious brands. They are certainly not promoting the same old brands that are promoted on MN! Why does everyone immediately think Mulberry when the word classic is used but not Givenchy or Tods, or Celine or Loewe? I just don’t understand why other brands are not classics? The Gucci Bamboo or Jacqui are classics the world over. Mulberry are in the uk but not really elsewhere.
Agree, for me 800 or 900 euro on a mulberry is a bad choice. I got a loewe hammock for my big birthday and omg 😍 i love it. I slept with the bag beside me 😂, but Mulberry doesnt inspire this love.

I see mulberry as being too practical to be exciting, i prefer the price range of cocinnelle for a less expensive but not "cheap" bag. I bought the fauve tu from cocinnelle when i needed a bag that some might compare to mulberry antony in terms of use/size

Manc2 · 28/12/2021 20:35

@expatmigrant I got a Loewe puzzle for Christmas and it is amazing
I love Celine and have a belt bag and classic box but the triomphe is next on my list

expatmigrant · 28/12/2021 20:53

Oh you lucky girl @Manc2
I'm a road cyclists so opted for some very expensive bike stuff.
It might have to become a little present to myself by myself Grin

I personally disagree with mulberry being under the radar. If a person is interested in bags, you can spot one from a mile off the tree/lock/distinct styles. Ultimately those uninterested in bags will not notice if it's a carrier bag or a bag with a massive Gucci logo. Mulberry is a British brand and I feel like it's a place many start when they want a designer bag hence it's popularity. That's definitely where it started for me. I have at least 5 mulberry from 8-10yrs ago and of all the bags that I bought they have not held up that well. But I bought the first generation alexa and lily in leathers that were not as structured and a lamb baywater. So my choices were not robust enough. Have tried to sell but would make not much on them so I keep them and wear on occasion. Mulberry also went through a phase of price hikes a few years ago which put off many shoppers. They lost a lot of customers. People just were not willing to pay that much more for the bags. Put me off the brand. All this of course is my own personal opinion of dealing with the brand and with my personal purchases.

Less obvious branding personally if that is what you are after would be Loewe, BV, Celine, AH. Less obvious likely because not as popular.

I've been lusting over the Gucci Diana but it costs £2000. - £3000

BakeOffRewatch · 28/12/2021 23:21

What do people on this thread think of Aspinal bags?

bendmeoverbackwards · 28/12/2021 23:55

@OneGlamMama

This is the one I nabbed in the sale 🥰
That’s gorgeous @OneGlamMama 😍
bendmeoverbackwards · 28/12/2021 23:56

@Manc2 I am very jealous. I would love a puzzle bag, what colour did you get?

Manc2 · 29/12/2021 08:01

@bendmeoverbackwards tan in the small size

IloveJudgeJudy · 29/12/2021 08:07

@BakeOffRewatch I absolutely love Aspinal bags. I have 4 of them. I was lucky; I got one in a sample sale where it was buy as seen. They are beautiful and beautifully made bags. I just can't afford to spend £000s on a bag (I wish).

OneGlamMama · 29/12/2021 09:29

Well... I could cry.

Mulberry emailed me this morning saying they had inaccurate stock levels... and can't process my order.

Oh no OP @OneGlamMama, really sorry to hear that. I had a look on shopstyle that’s a good way to find a specific style and put a sale alert on. I think this is the same one? uk.cettire.com/products/mulberry-darley-small-crossbody-bag-910943435

BakeOffRewatch · 29/12/2021 09:38

Ah that’s summer khaki

oneglassandpuzzled · 29/12/2021 13:49

Try the many mulberry Facebook groups. Often people put up new or barely used mulberry bags. They will be authenticated by the admins.

Wagsandclaws · 29/12/2021 13:52

I'm Aspinal mad, see attached pic - I took this for a bag group I belong to 👌🏻

Really classic designer bag?
BakeOffRewatch · 29/12/2021 14:08

@IloveJudgeJudy @Wagsandclaws I think aspinal are good too and if I was looking at that price point that’s what I’d get over Mulberry. Never see it mentioned on these threads though.

Whitney168 · 29/12/2021 14:15

Anthony always useful, but have to say whenever I use the Small Amberley people comment on how much they love it. (I mean, not that I actually care LOL, I bought it because I do - just that it's noticeable. Think it's because it's a bit different.)

Snoopsnoggysnog · 29/12/2021 14:25

I was coming on to say Aspinal. I have the camera in black and the Stella in burgundy and absolutely love them.

They get a lot of love on other threads like this. I have a couple of Mulberry’s too but they’re just too expensive now and in my social circle they are everywhere, along with the Gucci disco and YSL camera, so I wouldn’t buy these for that reason.

PerditaNitt · 02/01/2022 20:21

I’ve got my eye on the Gucci Dionysus. I love the disco bag, but I know a lot of people with them, but nobody with the Dionysus. Love that it isn’t logo-heavy like other Gucci bags but is still very distinctive.

Would still love a Chanel, but have been ummkng and aaahing over one for about a decade and the prices have gone up so much, it now feels pretty ridiculous to have a bag that costs the same as a car. Would be worried about wearing it on the tube late in the evening too.
What about an Anya Hindmarch crossbody bag? I've had a mulberry amberley and loved it, also love the Anya bags for the organisation pockets...

Just bought the blue wink Cross body anya hindmarch bag because of this thread!

Restingpotato · 11/01/2022 15:36

And for the OP, the mulberry website says the bag you wanted is in stock in some stores - London, Edinburgh and Leeds. Might be worth a call to see if you can get one sent?
