Curly girl method giving me the same hair as Robert Plant

I've just seen a photo of Robert and realised this is what CG makes my hair into Grin No offence to him, but I'm thinking of giving it up, it's a lot of faff for not much results.

Hi hair is gorgeous I love big hair.

What is it doit that you aren't liking? As that might narrow it down. I very very loosely follow CG but I'm not religious about it. Though I don't think I'll go back to shampoo my scalp is so much happier.

APurpleSquirrel · 23/12/2021 16:11

I've been trying to follow the CG method but hate hair gel, so have switched to mousse & it's better. I took wont switch back to normal shampoo, use the Cantu one now & it's much better.

DidgeDoolittle · 23/12/2021 16:53

I've been following cg method, but it makes my scalp itch. I use a scalp brush when washing my hair but it still itches. I washed it on Monday and left it to dry without any products on it. It still itches but not as much.
Any suggestions gratefully received.

Poetrypatty · 23/12/2021 17:12

It does at least give it volume, but the curls are quite small and it's definitely giving me a kind of 70s/80s rock star thing going on. It looks like I need to brush it, and if I do it goes more wavy so I might stick with that, although I would get kicked off CGM for that probably Grin

Are you doing the bowl method and lots of scrunching?

Poetrypatty · 23/12/2021 17:18

What's the bowl method?

I take it the Curly Girl method is leaving you "Dazed and Confused" instead of feeling "A Whole Lot of Love"? 😜

BobbieT1999 · 23/12/2021 17:25

Try a wide toothed comb when you feel it needs a brush.

Poetrypatty · 23/12/2021 17:29

Also I should clarify that I'm not Robert in his heyday but current day Robert. (It looks fine on him, sorry Robert, if you're reading Grin)

I hadn't thought of a wide toothed comb, thanks. Am seriously considering just giving up though.

I had more success with CGM giving defined curls and less frizz when my hair was shorter (between chin and shoulder length)

I guess the length and weight of it was too much for my meagre 2c wavy proto-curls and pulled the curl out into a meh wavy mess.

Not sure if this applies to you, but maybe worth getting a trim?

Poetrypatty · 23/12/2021 18:16

That's a good point Shangpie I can see that this might work.

@Poetrypatty

What's the bowl method?
It's similar to squish to condish but using a bowl to catch the water and dip your head in, there's loads of very annoying videos online about how to do it.
MaggieCassidy · 23/12/2021 19:48

I’m suffering similarly and have concluded that I now need to get a different cut to suit the curl pattern. They’re nice curls but very fine and flat, so I need something to give it more volume.

Poetrypatty · 23/12/2021 20:19

Thanks Sickofpineneedles

Maybe I do need to rethink the cut. Seems so complicated sometimes.

He had the best hair though?

KloppKrazy · 23/12/2021 21:15

Oh just read the update on era.
Well it's still nice imo.

Sickofpineneedles · 23/12/2021 22:14

A decent cut does make the difference, I had a shag about a year a bit ago but the hairdresser did a thing to kind of thin my hair, he ran the scissors down the strands, it was very 80s rock chic.

I liked it and was completely different to anything I had but I realised recently that where all the ends are different lengths my hair is getting way more little knots and split ends.

I've just done a pigtail cut on myself and my DDs which has worked well. I'm saying this because not all cuts are created equal if you can find a curly hairdresser then you are more likely to get a decent cut that grows out well.

Titsywoo · 23/12/2021 22:16

If you are on tiktok there are several people showing how to get your curls looking great. I've learned loads on how to wash and style my hair from them.

GettingStuffed · 24/12/2021 05:11

Are you over doing it? I literally only use shampoo and conditioner with the occasional mask and curl cream. As my hair is wavy /curly any more product just weighs it down and not using shampoo makes my hair look greasy when it's naturally dry.

Mermaidwaves · 24/12/2021 16:35

It probably looks great, Robs hair is fab! Grin my hair can tend towards 70s/80s rock stars too so I know what you mean, I think it suits me better than straight hair which doesnt flatter me at all. I need your tips!

KimikosNightmare · 24/12/2021 17:57

@KloppKrazy

He had the best hair though?
He did. I used to replicate it by sleeping with my long straight hair in plaits when it was damp

I've had Robert plants hair all my life ( had to google him) I've tried everything to make it sit flatter but it doesn't want to . It wants to be curly and big . Everyone and I mean everyone loves it ! I don't mind it to be fair but would rather it would sit flatter . Everyone seems to want my hair now ! 🙄

Poetrypatty · 26/12/2021 16:15

Yours sounds good gunnersgold you must have Robert at his peak
