Babyliss Big Hair or is there something better?

I’ve had the BBH for several years and loved it. It’s finally died & want to ask DH to get me a replacement for Christmas. But I’m sure I read here that there are now some alternatives and I wondered what these are and what people think of them compared to the BBH?

My hair is a bit shorter now, about shoulder length. Any recommendations, pros & cons would be great.

Thank you!

Amelion · 23/12/2021 09:46

Just to throw it into the mix, I really like the Amika one. I’ve had the BBH and Revlon and the Amika one leaves my hair feeling much smoother and silkier.

I think I might go for the standard, then DD can use it too

The review from Milabu on YouTube wasn't great for the smaller one. The air flow is more even with the original one

ThePontiacBandit · 27/12/2021 11:50

Morning all! I got gift vouchers for Christmas so I am tempted to get one of the Revlon one step. I have had a BBH for years but it’s started making strange noises and it’s time for an upgrade.
Questions I couldn’t see answered - I have to rough dry my hair with the BBH before I use it, can the One step be used with wet hair? Is it work forking out for the titanium one? They’re on offer so the titanium is £65 (instead of £80), the next one down is £43 (instead of £70). I have a chin length bob, fine hair but plenty of it.

Coffeepot72 · 27/12/2021 13:13

I always rough dry my hair before using the Revlon. You probably could use it on wet hair but it would most likely take much longer? I have the 'normal' model, ie not the titanium, so can't comment on the difference but the normal one is just fine!

I feel like the revlon one step broke lots of my hair. Did anyone else find this? It gets hot

Fritilleries · 27/12/2021 22:38

Dammit. Have ordered off amazon and won't be arriving for at least 2 weeks.

You can cancel on Amazon

Just have. Bit of an impulse purchase.

I hope noone minds me reviving this thread and asking you all to talk about your amazing hair again please.

After 40 years of hair which I haven't liked, I've decided its time to make my hair look nice.

It is thick with a wave in it. I've tried curly girl but just end up looking ratty and like I'm trying to develop dreadlocks, which I don't think would suit me.

It's currently a few inches below shoulder length but I often prefer it around jaw, slightly longer at the front to frame my face hide chins and then a little shorter at the back to stop it turning into a mushroom cut.

I never style it but have heard great things about both the BBH and the ROS.

I've spent the evening watching YouTube video and the BBH ones all give the bouncy waves look I want, whereas the ROS video all give a straighter look.

Can I use the ROS to get bouncy curls or would the BBH suit my thick hair? I wash it once a week and am looking for something to do twice a week ideally, is this realistic or am I asking too much?

Will a heat protection spray make any difference to the damage? I literally never blow dry but do dye it every couple of months, so the condition is probably quite good but I don't want to ruin it.

If anyone has similar hair / hair needs to me I'd love to hear how you've made your hair look amazing with one of these machines.

Thanks

indiesearcher · 10/01/2022 11:53

Hi @NarcissistsEyebrows

Your hair sounds similar to mine.

I have tried both appliance and much prefer the Revlon. My hair got very tangled and stuck in the Babylis.

The Revlon is literally life changing. I get asked all the time if I've been for a blow dry!

Wineloffa · 10/01/2022 12:06

I’ve just bought the Revlon One Touch and first used it yesterday. I have shoulder length thick hair which is naturally quite curly. The Revlon made it smooth and shiny and was easy enough to use so I’m pleased with it.

I also own the Babyliss Big Hair and have used it for years (I’m on my 2nd one). I also really like it. I would say the main difference between them is that the BBH gives more volume and gives a more bouncy finish with flicks. Good for “going out” hair but perhaps the Revlon is better for everyday hair? The Revlon is also easier to use as the revolving brush on the BBH takes a bit of skill and practice to master.

NarcissistsEyebrows · 10/01/2022 21:11

Thanks so much for replying.

I'm really annoyed you've both said Revlon! I'm looking for a voice saying Babyliss.

Maybe I need both?!

I do like some curl in my hair but it spunds like Revlon might not give me that...and easy to use is more me, so I feel torn between them

If anyone would be willing to post an annonymised before and after pic of the Revlon I'd really appreciate it

Wineloffa · 10/01/2022 21:33

BBH will definitely give more volume and bounce and Revlon gives a straighter finish. My hair always feels very swishy after the BBH and people always comment on it.

I use heat protecting spray before styling and also Frizz Ease Serum (the lighter one) to help smooth the hair.

Coffeepot72 · 10/01/2022 21:49

The clue is in the name! Babyliss Big Hair definitely gives volume and bounce (and big hair) but the Revlon gives a sleeker look.

We need some comparison pics!

The brush or the roller brush one?

Gwenhwyfar · 11/01/2022 15:19

Does it work if you're too lazy to do sections?

indiesearcher · 11/01/2022 16:40

I basically put my hair in a half up and do the underneath section then the top. Definitely don't do it in loads of sections.

Putting up an after pic from the Revlon - I've used it for years so I can't find a good 'before', will keep looking.

Main thing is, everyone always asks if I've been to the hairdressers!

Babyliss Big Hair or is there something better?
Coffeepot72 · 11/01/2022 19:14

@indiesearcher I do my hair the same way as you. If I use the Babyliss, I need a quick run through with the straighteners afterwards, otherwise I’m a bit bouffant. But if I use the Revlon, then no straighteners required.

MichelleScarn · 11/01/2022 19:18

I've just bought the revlon one in aldi, down to £24.99 in the sale. Originally 29.99 absolutely love it!

Clickncollect · 16/01/2022 09:56

I’ve been using the BBH for about a year and, although I love it, I do get the odd tangle because of the rotating. Just bought the revlon one touch and I love it and the fixed brush is ace.
So personally I am happy that I have both as the finish is different but both really good so I’ll just bounce between the two depending on my mood!

Coffeepot72 · 16/01/2022 18:15

@Clickncollect in which way do you find the finish different with each appliance?
