Babyliss Big Hair or is there something better?

I’ve had the BBH for several years and loved it. It’s finally died & want to ask DH to get me a replacement for Christmas. But I’m sure I read here that there are now some alternatives and I wondered what these are and what people think of them compared to the BBH?

My hair is a bit shorter now, about shoulder length. Any recommendations, pros & cons would be great.

So which brush size have people gone for with the revlon? My hair is thick but only shoulder length. It takes forever to dry!

@Littlemiss74

Just had a quick look online and there are varying prices for the revlon one. Are there different versions of the same thing & if so any suggestions as to which to go for? I need to give DH his instructions today!😀
I’d be interested in this too. Looks like there is a standard one, one of short/medium hair, and a “style booster” version

I've got thick, wavy shoulder length hair and have the big barrel.

I want to know what size barrel too I have shoulder length hair but it’s quite fine.

BrownEyedWoman · 21/12/2021 11:24

@LBB2020 I would def recommend Elvive Dream Lengths Wonder Water straight after rinsing conditioner out, it's brilliant stuff! I also use a bit of Elvive Dream Lengths No Haircut Cream before rough drying then using ROS. I've tired so many products but there actually work (much to my amazement lol).

BrownEyedWoman · 21/12/2021 11:25

Mine is the bigger one, 7cm brush, I'll try and attach a pic

BrownEyedWoman · 21/12/2021 11:27

Excuse typos - tried & these

NameChangeinHaste · 21/12/2021 11:32

I have the same as @indiesearcher
I’ll often finish the sections with the brush upside down, so handle pointing upwards. As I pull it away from hair, my hair wraps around the handle and it finishes it with a nice bouncy loose curl.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 21/12/2021 11:34

I have one by Mermade hair and find it brilliant

RocketSurgeon · 21/12/2021 11:55

Could anyone explain the different pros and cons of the rotaty one and the paddle brush one please?

I've got thick wavy shoulder length hair.

Littlemiss74 · 21/12/2021 12:18

Ok thank you for the links - so do you rough dry hair first with a hairdryer or do you use the brush to dry from the start? Just wondering how long it takes..?

I have both. If you want big hair, then the Babyliss is your product (the clue’s in the name) and it’s also very good at smoothing out layers. But for a sleeker,, less bouffant finish, I swear by the Revlon One Step.

I have a shoulder length bob, fairly thick hair which is 95% straight.

Coffeepot72 · 21/12/2021 13:10

I have the standard size Revlon, sorry forgot to add that in my earlier post

Skinnytailedsquirrel · 21/12/2021 15:07

I have had a couple of BBH and I also bought (I always need to have a spare) Revlon. Revlon one doesn't work for me at all. My hair is soft and fine. I love the BBH.

I suppose it depends upon your hair.

Coffeepot72 · 21/12/2021 16:02

Oh yes, which ever one you decide upon, you must ALWAYS have a spare. As these things tend to give up the ghost with very little notice.

rainydogday · 21/12/2021 23:20

I used to have a Baylis one but found It made My long Bob look way too bouncy! I have fine shoulder length hair now that does need some lift. Does this one wonder brush just give you a big blow dry Bob look? Or can you make it curl or lift by doing sections in different ways? Sorry if I am not explain myself!

Coffeepot72 · 22/12/2021 07:29

@rainydogday the Big Hair also used to make my bob a bit too full, and I had to straighten it afterwards to flatten it down a bit. So I tend to use the Revlon which avoids the bouffant look. I blast my hair 80% dry with a hair dryer, tie back the top section of hair, style the under section, then the top section. It’s quick and easy

LBB2020 · 22/12/2021 07:46

Thank you @BrownEyedWoman I’m going to the shops later so will pop into Boots and have a look at the Elvive products you mentioned Smile

indiesearcher · 22/12/2021 09:08

@Littlemiss74 you can use the Revlon from towel dried, or when hair is almost completely dry. Often I let mine just dry off naturally in a bun or loose until it's 50% dry then finish off with Revlon. I can't remember the last time I used my hairdryer or straighteners!

Littlemiss74 · 22/12/2021 09:54

Thanks @indiesearcher I think I’m going to go for the revlon with smaller brush

OP posts:
Milomonster · 22/12/2021 17:11

Good choice. Had my layers cut yesterday and used the smaller brushed one on it today and my hair looks amazing. What I like is that the ends are smooth, which I never achieved with blow drying and round brush alone.

Everythingmagnolia · 22/12/2021 17:53

Does anyone have the link to the smaller brush please? Would that one be best for shoulder length fine hair?
