Does a pinafore look good on a grown woman?

I have recently bought a black corduroy button up pinafore with silver buttons. I am 24, so I am not sure if it will look good on me or not. How should I style it?

I wear them constantly, have about nine of them :) bright and patterned top underneath which doesn't clash with my equally bright hair, bright tights and sparkly DM boots - so yes it's perfect for a grown woman (I'm 35) but my sense of style probably isn't everyone's Grin

I wear mine with a roll neck or round neck top underneath, black tights and black knee length boots or loafers. I'm not very grown though Sad (under 5ft!)

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 17/12/2021 22:50

Most of my adult colleagues wear them and I think they are just awful. Not to be worn by anyone older than 5 in my opinion.

Lineofconcepcion · 17/12/2021 22:56

Toast do a very nice grown up one in indigo denim.

Marble2021 · 17/12/2021 22:59

thanks for all the suggestions!

Really handy for breastfeeding, otherwise don't know why you'd wear one really!

DixieSun · 17/12/2021 23:01

No but if you like it wear it

They're a staple for me. Have multiple cord versions in different colours, a denim one and a leather one. Always worn with a long sleeve stripey/contrasting plain or animal print top (it's a neutral!).

Wore a wine coloured one to work today with a slim fit leopard print top, black tights and black chunky heeled boots. With my hair in space buns.

Am significantly older than 24 😆.

Bussinbussin · 17/12/2021 23:14

They're cute if you have a quirky/youthful look. I'd look bloody ridiculous in one Grin

ambereeree · 17/12/2021 23:22

24 is when you can wear everything and anything!!

Craftycorvid · 17/12/2021 23:29

More than twice 24 and love a good pini’. Anything goes!

WingingItSince1973 · 18/12/2021 00:06

I'm 48 and I wear them. 🥰

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 18/12/2021 06:00

They look brilliant on gamine women imo.

toomuchturmericinwatermelon · 18/12/2021 06:38

It's a matter of taste, isn't it really? Personally, I really don't like pinafores on grown women, no.

Chocolatecoatedkettlebell · 18/12/2021 07:19

This is a bit like the dungarees debate (which I love). I think you can go two ways, you can go with @hilariousnamehere’s style and really embrace the alternative look, or you can pare it right back and go very minimalist and monochrome and almost “Swedish architect” (see old threads). The danger for me is the middle ground of a nice Breton top and some brogues which takes you into CBeebies presenter territory

Marble2021 · 18/12/2021 07:36

I thought about styling my pinafore with a cream roll neck top, tights, and flat black shoes.

I wear mine with bright tights and converse.
And I'm somewhat older than you

AnFiaRuaNua · 18/12/2021 07:40

If you're 24 you can carry it off and it will likk like a trend.

What height are you? I think that it helps to be tall or if not tall, then thin.

Most women are going to be able to find something more flattering than a pinnafore imo

Kshhuxnxk · 18/12/2021 07:43

Tou have to be a certain type. My sister wears them and she looks stupid shes too old and although very youthful and pretty she is classic rather than quirky. I think adults need to be quirky to carry a pinafore off.

Run and fly do awesome pinafores! So many colours and patterns.

wineusuallyhelps · 18/12/2021 07:49

I'm 45 and I wear them, couldn't care less if anyone thinks I'm "too old". Probably shouldn't have long hair either?! Grin

In the winter I wear them with black tights and converse hi-tops and a leopard print jumper underneath. Enjoy Wink

Amelion · 18/12/2021 07:51

It would be a no from me.
