My first biker jacket: MN made me do it...

This is Mumsnet's fault. Don't remember how – some thread about a party frock or cheap leggings... You know how it goes.

Anyhoo, I have just tried on my first leather biker jacket, and it is DA BOMB.

But I have Questions...

How tightly is it supposed to fit? Will it stretch?

The Medium clutches my hips and rides up in the small of my back. No space for a chunky jumper underneath, although four thin layers fit just fine.

The Large accommodates a thick fleece with ease and allows a little swivel on my hips. However it drowns me at the shoulders, and the larger funnel neck looks odd zipped up. (My face is tiny and easily overwhelmed.)

My heart is with the Medium. But an extra pound of fat in the wrong place, and I'll never zip it up again.

What to dooooo?

Shouldn't be buying either jacket, given state of funds

But it's so rare to find something that really suits me, I'll regret if it more I don't.

Medium.

BewareTheRedNosedDragon · 15/12/2021 20:39

Personally I'd go large - boyfriend style. Especially if funds are tight do you really want to buy something that might not fit after Xmas? Boring mum advice of course but...

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/12/2021 20:59

I'd go medium, but I never zip them up.

TressiliansStone · 15/12/2021 21:11

Large is very sensible.

But the phrase "Suzi Quattro's fat nan" is indelibly engraved on my brain...

Might manage pics come daylight.

NOPE!!
if funds don't really support buying one anyway, definitely don't buy one that doesn't fit well, keep trying different brands, you will find " the one"

mowglika · 15/12/2021 21:48

I never zip up my biker jacket so it wouldn’t matter if I couldn’t do them up. I Think it’s more important they look well fitted on the top half so on that basis I would get the medium

MercedesBenz · 15/12/2021 21:51

I would get medium
I hardly ever see them zipped and are you really going to want to wear a chunky jumper underneath

Ps post a pic

Lucked · 15/12/2021 21:55

I am in the west of Scotland and if I couldn’t zip up my biker jacket all my tops would get really wet down the front - maybe less of an issue in the south east.

cruffin · 15/12/2021 21:58

Doesn't sound like either fit very well. Keep looking.

MaryStuart · 15/12/2021 22:01

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie

I'd go medium, but I never zip them up.
I don’t zip mine either
userxx · 15/12/2021 22:04

Never zip up mine, it wouldn't go over my chest 🤷‍♂️

U8976532 · 15/12/2021 22:04

I went for fitted but regretting slightly as I can't wear thick layers which means it's not very wearable at the moment!

WingBingo · 15/12/2021 22:11

Another vote for medium!

IvorCutler · 15/12/2021 22:40

Medium. I’ve gone from a size 6-8 to a big 12 during the pandemic and I can still get my size 8 leather jacket on. It was never oversized either.

Craftycorvid · 15/12/2021 23:07

Depends. If it’s a well made jacket, it’ll be plenty warm enough without a thick sweater underneath. If you’re going to feel it looks wrong with lots of your sweaters, though, you won’t wear it. I’m with the pp who suggested to keep looking for a jacket that doesn’t swamp you if you go a size up.

Ponks · 15/12/2021 23:16

Keep looking!

TressiliansStone · 16/12/2021 15:11

Medium on the left, Large on the right.

(Sorry about quality of pics.)

You’re rocking the medium IMO

TressiliansStone · 16/12/2021 16:25

Medium

gogohm · 16/12/2021 16:52

I would suggest trying other brands until you find the one. I'm hoping for one in my "stocking" though a proper one for the motorbike that costs far more due to the kevlar

TressiliansStone · 16/12/2021 17:03

Medium again.
