Losing the will here.
I want to get 10 - nearly 11 - year old DD something to wear on Christmas Day and to the panto, but finding that things from Boden, John Lewis, M&S etc are too young, and H&M, River Island, Primark etc too old.

She’s not really into dresses or patterns, pink etc anymore - would wear a grey hoodie and blue denim jeggings everyday if she could 😱 - it’s such a tricky age! Anyone seen or bought anything lovely recently?
Anything I find online remotely nice seems to be sold out.

Lipsy at Next is nice if you are looking for something dressy. And Next in general though they’re terrible for showing things are in stock when they’re not.

Coronawireless · 15/12/2021 12:54

Zara

getsanta · 15/12/2021 12:58

Zara or Mango. My daughter got all her winter clothes from Mango this year.

Pattygonia · 15/12/2021 12:59

What about a plaid shirt to wear with the jeans and hoodie? Lands End do really nice quality kids clothes and have red and blue plaid shirts in their girl’s department as well as pink ones.

Or maybe a jumpsuit or dungarees?

gogohm · 15/12/2021 13:03

At that age I still bought mostly from sainsburys or Asda, with a bit from H&M - mine were short and skinny so wore small sizes

DobbyTheHouseElk · 15/12/2021 13:06

Next or M&S?

Daisydolly1986 · 15/12/2021 13:07

River Island. Lovely for childrens / tween / teen clothing.

NEE1302 · 15/12/2021 13:07

Try Mint Velvet. The girls clothes go up to age 12 and they do smart hoodies & sweatshirts, ribbed jumpers, jeans and leggings.

itwasntaparty · 15/12/2021 13:07

I'm letting mine wear the hoodie and leggings, can't be bothered with the argument. Can't find any middle ground at the moment. One dt will not entertain a dress / skirt at all, the other one wants mid riff bearing cold shoulder tops and I won't entertain that. There's a real gap in the market. They wouldn't wear Boden / joules etc anymore.

River Island. Lovely for childrens / tween / teen clothing.
I disagree, not for a tween.
DobbyTheHouseElk · 15/12/2021 13:11

Fatface?

HollyGoLoudly1 · 15/12/2021 13:12

New Look 915 range. I've found it the most age appropriate, reasonable prices and DD seems to like it

chipshopElvis · 15/12/2021 13:12

Mine likes New Look, H and M, Next, Zara and River Island.

CheesyFootballsAreEvil · 15/12/2021 13:12

Next or some of the H&M stuff

CheesyFootballsAreEvil · 15/12/2021 13:13

New look also has some stuff the tween in might likes. River Island is a bit too grown up for her atm

Silverswirl · 15/12/2021 13:13

I have a 12 year old.
It’s all SHEIN SHEIN SHEIN.
Occasionally new look girls

time2tork · 15/12/2021 13:13

Zara! Both my girls have nice plain but textured clothes from there

TokyoSushi · 15/12/2021 13:14

Mint Velvet girls is really lovely.

GreyTS · 15/12/2021 13:16

River Island. Lovely for childrens / tween / teen clothing.
Urgh River Island is way too grown up for a tween.....OP Zara, my girls get all their clothes from Zara or sports shops
Violet9 · 15/12/2021 13:19

Definitely a tricky age for us too, dd is 11 and won't wear dresses or skirts anymore or anything she thinks is too girly. I've found H & M good for what she wants to wear - joggers, t's, jumpers and hoodies mostly! She'd still be wearing shorts from the summer if she could but even she had to admit it was finally too cold come November! Next and New Look are quite good for us too.

MerryMarigold · 15/12/2021 13:25

DD liked New Look. Some of it is a bit 'grown up' but other things are nice. Same with River Island - some really TOWIE stuff and then other nice bits, need to look, eg. A nice jumper to go with jeans etc. Also Monsoon if it's nice you're after. I tend to eBay for going out stuff as it doesn't get worn enough. Got a lovely jigsaw dress for a wedding when she was 11.

tigerbear · 15/12/2021 21:37

Thanks for all of the suggestions, everyone!
So, after adding about 20 outfits to the baskets on various websites - Zara, River, Tu, M&Co, Next etc - DD came home and disliked pretty much everything! 😱
After much deliberation, she’s chosen 2 completely black outfits - a black denim boilersuit from River Island and a turtle neck with a metallic pleated skirt from Tu, of all places! Gone are the days of the sweet little patterned Boden dresses 😔

I adore pretty much everything on the Zara site, but she didn’t!

OP, it's ok. DD now in Y8 (13) and back to wearing some colours. Her favorite jumper is mustard yellow and she is about to paint her room a pale blush pink!

Quornflakegirl · 15/12/2021 21:44

Zara and FatFace is where we’ve ventured to from Mini Boden.

VeggieSausage · 15/12/2021 22:04

My 10 year old got lots of things recently from H and M - leggings / jeggings / joggers and hoodies mostly. She also has a couple of nice skirts from Next.
