Are these boots awful or cool?

Would love a straw poll on these boots which I ordered with BF discount.

I'm an early 30s mum of small children and I just feel totally lost style-wise! I used to know what looked good and current and now I just feel clueless. I'm 5'4" size 12 pear shape.

I have a pair of 1460 dark brown forlife DMs which are super comfy, just wanted something I could put on to look a bit more cool... fashionable... less frumpy and scruffy! With black jeans and black/dark knitwear. Help!

Are these boots awful or cool?

It's great to have got opinions, and also for it to be mixed- I feel like it's representative of the real world and I'm not just hearing from one side.

I think this has given me the confidence to keep them, and that I will feel badass-cool stomping about. And if I FEEL like I look good then that's the important thing... right?

Yep, really like these.

50ShadesOfCatholic · 02/12/2021 15:57

There's a pair in my hallway 😂

JessicaPipsqueak · 02/12/2021 16:01

The problem for me with DMs is that I can still picture the National Front in them 😀 I know we have moved on from this. but still, the association in my mind remains.

I wear the Grensen nanettes and I much prefer the more 'feminine' shape of them.

But of course that's just my opinion

@TartanPyjamas

Them lasting both physically and in terms of style is important. I do think DMs are ultimately timeless and stand firm to changing styles of jeans, dress etc. I know what you mean about the change in quality- it's why I went for the forlife 1460 over the regular ones, but these do actually feel nice.

I did look at Solovair but they are quite a bit more expensive and the DMs have a zip on the inside which I think will be easier in terms of chucking them on when getting out of the door with kids.

Ive worn DM's since the 80's but moved over to Solovairs a few years ago. Solovairs last much longer, are made in Britain, can be re-soled and are made of superior leather - well worth the investment. If you want boots with zips then Solovairs do 3 styles. this is one of them.

Haha. I see your point. And they'd also be very effective for a quick kick up the backside for the slow coaches. 😂 (That was a joke. No young children were harmed during the making of this post. 😃 )

DMs are very on trend at the moment. They take too long to wear in for me but I do love them

bippityboppity87 · 03/12/2021 15:44

Love them! I was thinking about getting a similar pair, but in a burgundy colour

I already have a black pair of DM Leonore Chelsea boots. So comfortable and warm. Have had them for nearly 5 years now and still going strong

Cocolapew · 03/12/2021 15:48

Well every person and their dog are wearing them at the moment so you'll fit in Smile

MindBodyChocolate · 03/12/2021 17:18

love the boots.

But just came on to say that solovairs are lovely and are made in Northamptonshire, not Nottingham :) Northamptonshire has few claims to fame and shoemaking is one of them!! (I'm from Northants before anyone thinks I'm some kind of weird pedant Grin)

pastypirate · 03/12/2021 20:38

Very very cool

OneOfTheGrundys · 03/12/2021 22:59

I’m chunky of leg and wear DMs all the time. I just don’t tie them tightly at the top. I like the thick ribbon laces too. Fancy!

AlCalavicci · 03/12/2021 23:12

I like them but I think I would go for a slightly shorter style as my legs are only 28 inch so they would come up to my knees !

MapleMay11 · 03/12/2021 23:18

Awful - sorry.

Divebar2021 · 03/12/2021 23:57

I’m interested in how you wear them with jeans? Cropped ? Tucked in? I don’t have DM boots but I have shoes ( made in England) and I wear them with cropped boyfriend jeans and a jaunty sock. I don’t actually know how I’d wear that boot with jeans.

Skinnytailedsquirrel · 04/12/2021 00:01

DMs don't go "out of fashion". I'm 50+ and love my 10 year old pair.

PinotPony · 07/12/2021 23:52

Lovely boots! I'm on the market for something similar. Where do people buy their DMs from..? Directly from their website or other retailers..?

RavingAnnie · 08/12/2021 00:08

Love them! I love that this style of boot has gone back into fashion. Really up my street and reminds me of my teen days when I wore army combats. And my 20s in platform trainers!

I've just bought these....

RavingAnnie · 08/12/2021 00:09

I'm 48 😬

DedalusBloom · 08/12/2021 05:31

Solovairs would get my vote as they're more comfortable and easy to break in. They used to make DMs before they (DM) outsourced to Vietnam and the quality went down the pan. I used to wear DMs in the 90s and they were indestructible. Reviews these days seem mixed at best.

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 08/12/2021 06:23

I have 11 pairs of DMs so I am biased! I wore a different pair a day to school to show my class all my different ones. I think the gold ones were the most popular followed by rainbow.
