Is this jumpsuit awful?

After seeing this on mumsnet I bought a black velvet glittery jumpsuit. I don't need it. I have no particular occasions to wear it but thought I'd wear it at Christmas and for a party or out with friends. It's too long so would need to have it shortened. I ordered some leopard print courts to wear with. And a velvet cape I kind of love. Not got them yet and might send back and wear with pointed heeled black suede boots I always wear out.

I feel comfortable in it but it's not that flattering as I'm overweight.

I thought it would last and not date too quickly. Its not "my" style and maybe I should buy a more expensive casual glittery outfit from hush instead...

At least I get honest opinions from you lot. Do your worst. Thanks.

I think it's beautiful and if you like it then go for it!

divface · 02/12/2021 14:39

I think its nice

Get some spanx, pull the belt ip higher or get another belt

Platform/wedge shoes needed too

sonjadog · 02/12/2021 15:06

I think it looks nice, but you aren't convinced about it, so I think you should send it back. There are so many Christmassy outfits out there. Find one that you feel great in.

I don't know how old you are, but it's quite a middle aged looking jumpsuit. And I don't think it pulls in at the bits that would be most flattering for you.

SirChenjins · 02/12/2021 16:04

A middle aged jumpsuit?! Perish the thought that something looks middle aged Hmm

Although quite what makes a jumpsuit middle aged is anyone’s guess… Why not just say you don’t like it? Why link it to an older age specifically as some kind of insult?

Megan1992xx · 02/12/2021 16:08

I think you look stunning in it you should feel perfectly confident wearing it. I love the leopard print courts where did you get them?

They're her socks, aren't they? I'm in two minds about this one OP. I think the fact that you are not sure AND you have to make tailoring adjustments to it suggests you are best off sending it back.

Hence why I asked how old she was, it might be age appropriate. However it's not something I would expect to see on someone under 50. If she is younger I think it will be ageing.

That's my view, others are available.

SirChenjins · 02/12/2021 21:53

Age appropriate?! It’s a jumpsuit, it’s not defined by age - it’s either something you like or don’t like.

Honestly, the casual ageism on MN is extraordinary at times.

notawittyname1954 · 06/12/2021 23:22

I think you look nice in it but if you don't feel happy you just won't wear it or only once.

BringMeTea · 07/12/2021 07:20

Agree there Is NO such thing as a middle aged jumpsuit. Anyhoo. As others have said, if it doesn't. make you feel good when you put it on send it back. You can find something better for you.

MrsDThomas · 07/12/2021 07:29

I love jumpsuits and have a few. But velvet is a heavy material and “old”. Perhaps buy a black onein a lighter material you can wear another time if year. I buy mine from Silkfred and AX Paris

You still look great in it tho!

MrsLargeEmbodied · 07/12/2021 07:41

you do need to try it on with heels

BringMeTea · 07/12/2021 07:52

Velvet is not 'old'. Just fyi velvet is bang on trend.

MrsDThomas · 07/12/2021 11:39

I have my opinion. You have yours.

And thanks for informing me.

Duvetflower · 07/12/2021 14:06

There's nothing wrong with it, but you could do better. If it had narrower legs it would be more flattering.

BusterGonad · 07/12/2021 14:35

I agree, velvet is definitely not an 'old' fabric, there's loads of velvet dresses etc out there, in all types/styles of clothes shops.

Movinghouseatlast · 07/12/2021 14:38

I think it's really really flattering on you. I think you look fabulous actually!
