Is this jumpsuit awful?

After seeing this on mumsnet I bought a black velvet glittery jumpsuit. I don't need it. I have no particular occasions to wear it but thought I'd wear it at Christmas and for a party or out with friends. It's too long so would need to have it shortened. I ordered some leopard print courts to wear with. And a velvet cape I kind of love. Not got them yet and might send back and wear with pointed heeled black suede boots I always wear out.

I feel comfortable in it but it's not that flattering as I'm overweight.

I thought it would last and not date too quickly. Its not "my" style and maybe I should buy a more expensive casual glittery outfit from hush instead...

At least I get honest opinions from you lot. Do your worst. Thanks.

OP, there's nothing wrong with your legs! you look very nice in it, you need to be fully dressed with your shoes on for it to look right. I'm 5ft 1 size 12 and wear jumpsuits all the time and always get compliments. Stop looking at models to define your beauty. Most of them are too skinny...its all emperors clothes!

Bellafrenum · 01/12/2021 21:38

It's a yes from me.

ZenNudist · 01/12/2021 21:49

Ooh nice comments thank you ... very undecided. I don't really wear heels nor strappy sandals. I did try my boots but it's very dull.

The belt looks better if I just knot it once rather than tie a bow.

There's so many nice Christmas clothes in the shops but nothing I feel good in.

I love it and I think you look amazing!!

ImissWoolworths · 01/12/2021 21:57

Under no circumstance should you knot a bow Grin that'll look awful on any grown woman, it's weird it's fashionable at the moment, but the loose loop you've done is fine, also try is sideways to see which you prefer but honestly you look very very nice in it! you're wearing a long length jumpsuit with socks that's why it looks odd.
there are all kinds of boots out there at the moment, including wedges, shoelike sneakers etc. Get out there and shop or rather get on line and shop!!!

PammieDooveOrangeJoof · 01/12/2021 21:58

I think it’s very nice and would look fab on you when taken up and wearing heels.
Can you pin up the legs and wear some heels and take another pic?

BlueRabbitWasNaughty · 01/12/2021 21:59

I actually really like it.

LuneyTunes · 01/12/2021 22:04

The legs look quite draped/loose. I think a more fitted one, it looks like you could go a size smaller, would look lovely, rather than hiding your curves, embrace them. But I like the concept and glitter, very glam

Sickoffamilydrama · 01/12/2021 22:09

I love a good jumpsuit, this hush one is nice if you change your mind I bought it to wear for parties but found it a little to causal. If it goes into the sale I'll buy it.

It does look nice on you and I just think you need to get the legs taken up.

ImissWoolworths · 01/12/2021 22:09

I know these Boots are a bit of an acquired taste but I love them. Not all of them will go with a velvety jumpsuit but I think you could find a pair that can rock that jumpsuit.

blueshoes · 01/12/2021 22:14

I agreed that narrower legs (so it looks like a jump suit) and some form of heels will add impact. Personally I don't like the glitter and velvet and prefer a plain black jumpsuit which I can accessorise around the neck. I would also prefer to have longer sleeves but at least the sleeves are almost capped so acceptable.

I might be talking about a different jumpsuit.

talkalarm · 01/12/2021 22:18

Sorry I also agree that it needs a narrow leg

ImissWoolworths · 02/12/2021 03:18

It doesn’t need a narrower leg, OPs legs are just fine. The world is so conditioned into seeing rake thin people modelling clothes and being called ‘beautiful’ aka Angelina Jolie. There’s a reason why clothes come in different sizes! So long as OP is wearing the correct size which she is in the photo. This thread demonstrates a very unhealthy obsession with being thin. A size 12 woman being told her legs need to be narrower..to look right fgs!

... nobody is obsessed with the OP being more thin. They're saying this jump suit she's bought is probably in a size too big for her and that a size smaller would have more narrow defined legs. Right now as it's potentially too big it billows and looks more maxi dress-like from the photo.

I read those comments as the cut of the jumpsuit legs being at fault for not being cut more narrowly - not the OP's legs being an issue!! The OP herself said that she has good legs, which maybe are not being shown to their full potential. I still think it looks lovely and am considering something similar.
EdgeOfTheSky · 02/12/2021 05:36

Hmmmm.

I think the sparkly-outfit-and-heels look is dated now, and therefore a bit middle aged. (I am middle aged, and find the look dated so…) The boots in the Hush jumpsuit linked by Sickoffamilydrama would look better, IMO.

MarleneDietrichsSmile · 02/12/2021 07:02

Dated? I find nothing looks dated as we have not been able to have Christmas parties for 2 years now

I think you look really nice in it OP

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 02/12/2021 07:05

I think it looks fab. It looks good on you. It would look awful on me because all my fat is on my bum. Id wear it myself if I was a different shape.

theDudesmummy · 02/12/2021 07:05

I think it looks lovely when you are standing. But I would be worried about how it looks when you are sitting down, imagine it might be quite unflattering

pilates · 02/12/2021 07:08

I like it and it looks very nice on you but I would wear heels.

SirChenjins · 02/12/2021 08:53

That grey Hush jumpsuit is beyond dull - a utilitarian one piece with glitter in an attempt to add a bit of cheer to it. I’m sure I wore similar way back from the army surplus store in my worker’s revolutionary phase (without the sparkle obvs) Nothing edgy or modern about those boots either, they’re the kind of thing that every emo had their wardrobe a few years ago.

And what exactly is a middle aged outfit - if not something similar to what we wore as teenagers back in the 80s and early 90s?

beguilingeyes · 02/12/2021 12:38

I like it too. I've developed a bit of a thing for jumpsuits recently, Phase Eight do some lovely ones.

The only disadvantage is going to the loo and trying to do the darned thing up afterwards.

EdgeOfTheSky · 02/12/2021 12:44

Well, true I am hardly a fashion expert, but I haven’t seen anyone in heels since this time more than 2 years ago. It’s all about the chunky boots. Or chunky flats. Or chunky platforms.

WhoppingBigBackside · 02/12/2021 12:48

I like it and you look nice in it but you have doubts so return it

alphaechokiwi · 02/12/2021 12:52

I think velvet is a bit of a difficult material for jumpsuit. If you like black and sparkly, I can recommend this one from Hush www.hush-uk.com/oralia-v-neck-glitter-jumpsuit-black-sparkle/004379-2924.html .
It's quite sparkly in real life. Very flattering fit and material, and definitely not frumpy. I'm styling it similarly to the model with chunky shoes and a silver metallic cardigan if needed.
