How do you tuck a shirt in with a small waist??? Pic to demonstrate

Help please. I'm a size 8 hourglass. I've got a very small waist. Have a load of tops and blouses that would look best tucked into my wide legged jeans. But because my waist is so small, the excess fabric just billows everywhere. I've tried tucking the tops in completely, but they inevitably come a bit loose and untucked as I wear them, or the fabric bunches and bulks around my waist just looking like a complete mess. Does anyone have any tips please? I have a load of nice blouses and shirts, but since I've lost weight and got smaller they're starting to look ridiculous. The tops fit me and I can't really go much smaller in them without having to purchase a completely new wardrobe of tops

I've noticed that blouses are getting bigger and bigger over the stomach to the point they look like maternity tops.

I add darts to most blouses I buy now. It's annoying and time consuming but at least it gets around the problem

I'm also a size 8 hourglass, with 30E norkage. It's v tricky!
Massimo Dutti seems to be smaller, and usually I would say Zara is too, but this is obviously not the case any more.
I was going to recommend Pepperberry/Bravissimo.
Other than that, all my shirts are quite old, but much more fitted.
Generally, I wear fitted dresses- they just suit my figure far better. I only wear long-sleeved t-shirts for casual, which are quite fitted.

Most of the clothes in the shops at the moment are horrible oversized shapeless monstrosities. If you want fitted jumpers/ shirts etc you might be best checking out vintage reproduction like Vivien of Holloway. They use 1950s sizing, so check first! Very hourglass and fitted.
Collectif are good too, if you don’t want to spend as much money.

All your shirts are far too large. Just too enormous. Far too much material width ways across your body.

Also, The length of the sleeves and the amount of material width ways in the sleeve is huge.

It looks like a size 22 on a size 8 model.

Only a seamstress can fix this surely?

I'm the same shape. Essentially, these billowing shirts are all wrong for us, especially with the current tucked in fashion. Fitted shirts that have their own waist point look 100x better whether they're tucked in or left loose (if they have a suitable hem shape for loose).

Sometimes I pull them smooth across my front, make a twist in the back and tuck that in to trousers

I think the tops are just too big. Look for slightly less voluminous shirts.

No help from me @WineGetsMeThroughIt but I LOVE the first shirt!
Can I be cheeky & ask where it's from?

disconnected101 · 06/12/2021 19:18

N'mind! I just saw your previous response Grin
