What next for wrinkly oily types after Double Wear Light

Slobberstops · 27/11/2021 20:33

I loved this foundation and the way it lasts and isn’t cakey plus Fresco was my exact match so now it’s discontinued. Any suggestions for fairly lightweight but super long lasting foundations that won’t gloop off an oily nose or emphasise my eye wrinkles!

Oooh great news @Shimmylikejoanholloway. That's not long to wait.

DanglingMod · 02/12/2021 06:39

I've been buying 10ml sample pots of DWL from ebay sellers and hoping they'll last me until either EL bring out a decent replacement or I can go somewhere with a bigger make up range to get an alternative brand (Debenhams closed down, we still have HOF, but no JL in my city.)

XiCi · 02/12/2021 07:11

I'm loving YSL all hours foundation at the moment. It's matte, light, buildable, covers really well without being at all cakey and lasts all day.

XiCi · 02/12/2021 07:14

Also theres a website called Findation which matches your colour across brands. So if you tell them what colour you used for DW for example it will tell you what colour you need in all other foundations. You can obviously filter to brands you want to narrow it down. It's always been right for me, saves having to go into store or making expensive online mistakes.

nickyschof · 02/12/2021 08:31

Don't laugh, but try the primark copy of DW. It's £5 and can can buy 2 shades and mix for that price. The foundation is seriously good, and I've used DW before.

BusterGonad · 02/12/2021 09:10

I've never trued DWL but I have tried DW (too fiddly to apply) and I love Lancome Teint Idole, it's a soft satin finish, doesn't try your skin out and apply like a dream. I don't like matt finishes and I don't like a heavy look, this one works for me. I also have the Teint Miracle which gives me a dewy soft glowy look.

Seniorandjunior · 02/12/2021 10:31

Lancome Teint Idole probably, but I can't find a good colour match.
I've tried the Chantecaille one in the past, it didn't last on me - I am too oily. I guess it depends on your oily-ness level and I score very high on that!
Chanel Velvet in the black bottle is probably the next best to DWL that I've found.
People say It Cosmestics CC cream (the one for oily skin) is v good but I haven't tried it.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 02/12/2021 10:43

I've tried Lancome ,the colours aren't good and it aged me dreadfully.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 02/12/2021 10:47

** which just shows how individual foundation is for people.

BlueBloodedBlue · 02/12/2021 13:21

Another Fresco DWL wearer and I got such a shock when I went to restock. The hydro one is awful on me. I didn't realise there was a possibility of a new one soon.

In the meantime, im using a No7 one in Warm Ivory which is ok short term but I do miss the DWL.

isthismylifenow · 02/12/2021 13:30

I'm also Fresco but just can't use DW anymore.

I've changed over to Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish and at 2 weeks in, this is the one I will stick with. They do have a vast range of colours. I am 210N in this if that is helpful at all.

Slobberstops · 02/12/2021 20:20

Am interested in the recommendations… still holding out for 13th though:)

Il makiage is ok. Colour is good and it covers nicely and looked good. Doesn’t somehow look quite as good and didn’t last quite as well. I use dwl where some would use concealer I suppose and it doesn’t budge but my two hormonal spots were coming through at the end of the day.

Only £16 on Feel Unique at the moment,I might give it a try. Thanks for the recommendation.

BlueBloodedBlue · 03/12/2021 16:41

Asked the EL lady inBoots today re new DWL and she said it is due out on 13th Dec.

She said not all Boots stores will actually sell it but they should all have samples to give out so we should be able to see what it's like before committing to buy it.

She wasn't sure about shades etc either.

lndnbrdge91 · 03/12/2021 17:35

The L'Oréal true match is ok, and for the price. I have just started using this because DW is too heavy and sits in lines etc/looks flat on my 40+ skin

lndnbrdge91 · 03/12/2021 17:36

I also have hormonal spots and this will cover them.

Glowmaintenance · 04/12/2021 07:05

Why oh why try and fix something that isn't broken! Following for recommendations after finding out the bad news Sad

Slobberstops · 19/12/2021 11:34

Well I like my Il Makiage less and less. Just a bit flat and accentuates any dry patches or spots. I will use it up but won’t buy again.

I see the DW sheer is out. Has anyone tried it yet?

I went into our big Boots today and asked about the DW sheer and the Estée Lauder lady said only a few shops are selling it or have testers but it is available online.

Seems an odd marketing strategy and I'm certainly not going to risk buying a full size one without testing first.

Slobberstops · 19/12/2021 19:21

Have just been reading reviews and I think I am just going to go for it. I will let you know!

The serum foundation from Bobbi brown is a good one

29ac · 19/12/2021 20:24

I’ve got the new sheer one, ELDWL was my favourite foundation. The sheer is completely different, I’m convinced it’s actually mac face and body but in EL packaging. Given that Mac is owned by EL, it wouldn’t be a surprise..

It’s a really runny liquid. Very easily buildable and it does look just like skin and doesn’t accentuate any texture. Which all sounds pretty good. One layer is super sheer, like I’ve got nothing on, but it builds nicely it in areas I want to. Looks really lovely when I put it on (plus powder which it needs a lot of). I find it applies best with fingers.

The down sides, it doesn’t dry down and needs a lot of powdering as I mentioned. It doesn’t last like the old DWL. It comes off when you touch it and my skin looks really oily later in the day, it’s kind of… smeary. 2W1 in the sheer is more of a neutral than the light was, I have a strong yellow undertone so it isn’t quite the right shade for me.

I will use the bottle up but not sure I will repurchase. Still mourning the loss of DWL!

Slobberstops · 19/12/2021 21:31

Oh bum 29ac
That’s me out after that review. It’s the long lasting non oil slick which is a must for me. It sounds nice but I need the long lasting thing.
Sigh

Armani Luminous Silk. It’s like ELDWL on crack. I absolutely love it. Doesn’t look cakey or heavy in the way ELDW can. It’s great. I also love Armani Power Fabric for long long shifts at work. That stuff doesn’t budge but it’s as sheer or luminous as the luminous silk.
