Where on the high street are you buying your New Year’s Eve ballgown?!

John Lewis doesn’t stock full length evening dresses
My local Monsoons have closed
Debenhams has closed
House of Fraser has closed
TK maxx had no dresses in stock (used to have a whole rail full of options)

I’m close to three large cities and not a single shop sells full length evening dresses.

I don’t want to buy online!

It’s such a shame.

I love that a dearth of ballgown vendors is a problem for someone! A glamorous problem Grin

You'd be better off googling independent boutiques for that kind of thing I'd have thought.

WeirdArchitecture · 26/11/2021 17:13

I want an opportunity to need one, too!
NYE for us is slippers and a bottle of single malt.

We all need a touch more glamour!

LindaLooky · 26/11/2021 17:14

Hmm I'm not looking for one but do you have any of those more fancy charity shops that sell the higher end stuff?

WeirdArchitecture · 26/11/2021 17:14

OP, can you hire a gown? I have no experience with this but it is what i would do. The stress otherwise would kill me.

Raaaaaaarr · 26/11/2021 17:52

Karen Millen?

Twizbe · 26/11/2021 17:55

Wedding dress shop? Bridesmaid section?

LittleBearPad · 26/11/2021 17:56

A ball gown. Really?

There’s 628 full length evening dresses on the John Lewis website. That should give you enough options.

EvilRingahBitch · 26/11/2021 18:14

I think you're going to need to give us the cities if you want constructive advice, because if you were just looking for sympathy you're clearly out of luck (except with me - I do sympathise because I can imagine that ordering, trying and returning enough ball dresses to find the perfect one would be a complete ball ache not to mention a strain on the credit card, and I absolutely understand why you want to try in store).

ihatethecold · 26/11/2021 18:16

@LittleBearPad. bit judgy!

Why shouldn't the op get a ball gown?
maybe she is going somewhere lovely and wants to be glamorous.

No, there are none! The OP said so
Worldgonecrazy · 26/11/2021 18:19

Have you got a branch of All Good Things near you?

Funnylittlefloozie · 26/11/2021 18:21

Coast were always good for full-length and glam. I dont know if there is a Fenwicks near you but they were always my go-to for 'long and sparkly'.

habibihabibi · 26/11/2021 18:21

Can you can nip over to Riyadh? There are hundreds of ballgown shops crammed with every imaginable variety . If nothing takes your fancy, there are absolute acres of beautiful fabric and tailors who will have one done in 24hrs.

Hoppinggreen · 26/11/2021 18:22

I really wish I had this problem too

habibihabibi · 26/11/2021 18:24

On the outskirts of Riyadh there is the 'princess souq" where used ballgowns have a second life and can be bought for a few riyals.

Coffeepot72 · 26/11/2021 18:38

I fear we may be locked down by NYE

AnyFucker · 26/11/2021 18:40

Give over

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 26/11/2021 18:41

Can't you just send your staff out to procure you some options?

Will one of The Big Names not give you one on loan?

🤔

ShowOfHands · 26/11/2021 18:44

On NYE, I'm going on a steam train. They're chucking in a free mince pie and a hot chocolate. I'm wearing one of my many pairs of dungarees. I buy them from charity shops or FB seconds pages.

Any good op?

DidgeDoolittle · 26/11/2021 18:46

Phase 8 used to have lovely long frocks.

Lol. She just doesn’t want to buy anything online.

Lol at judgy. Grin

glimpsing · 26/11/2021 18:56

Just get one of your old ones altered. Or get two made into one. Add some trimmings, change the sleeves. Princess Dianna did this.Smile

Eco friendly too.

mybroomstick · 26/11/2021 18:58

I'll be wearing pyjamas on NYE. While eating a curry and drinking champagne on my sofa at home.

No ball gown needed!

WeirdArchitecture · 26/11/2021 18:59

jesus christ, some of these responses are a bit shit. Im not surprised the op hasnt returned. We are not all alike, but i cant see anything offensive in the post.
