No longer scoff at Crocs

For the longest time I disliked Crocs (not sure why, I like clogs).

I'm looking for a pair of shoes to wear purely in the kitchen on hard ceramic surface as my feet and joints hurt when I'm walking on it for a long time cooking, washing up etc.

They need to be:-
Wipe clean in case of spills
Able to slip on and off
Wearable with socks,or without socks
Fairly indestructable as I only want to buy them once
Comfortable and cushioned

Crocs seem to fit the bill so I have come round to them. I like the lighter pink and white but is this colour really impractical?

Are there any other shoes I might have missed (under £50)? A leather croc style would work - I like the (KG I think) loafer with oversized resin chain - but they seem to be over £100.

Wearing Crocs around the house helped cure my plantar fasciitis - I don't care what they look like tbh, it's not as if I go out of the house in them! I don't even buy actual crocs, just fake ones from Amazon. I think they were about £12 Grin.

Nightingalecollege · 23/11/2021 20:16

Amazon do knock off versions which I have found to be just as good.

Skyll · 23/11/2021 20:17

I love my crocs.

Illequiped · 23/11/2021 20:25

You can take my gaudy giant rubber shoes off my dead body. I love the things.

I get them for the kids as well as they're so practical and easy to shove on your feet without fussing and so far only actual croc brand crocs have stood up to the abuse thrown at them. Every other brand the straps have snapped, or a layer has peeled on them. Crocs just keep going.

SnekkinOnDown · 23/11/2021 20:28

I have had a pair of crocs for 8 years now and my entire family and friends have been converted. They are an absolute dream on your feet, especially in hard floor. That's how I came to have a paid, I have RA and the swollen toe Jonnie felt like I was walking on marbles. Crocs fixed it. Best things for you feet EVER.

TankGirl97 · 23/11/2021 20:28

Crocs are excellent around the house and garden. I don't go out in them though ! 😆

FestiveMayo · 23/11/2021 20:29

They are a great round the house shoe

Greyhare · 23/11/2021 23:39

I have similar to these but mine are are black with silver skull and crossbones on, I tend to keep them for garden wear in the winter, but they are 9 years old, so comfy and scrub up so well, I killed a pair of crocs in under a year of pottering about in them www.birkenstock.com/gb/s-birki/superbirki-core-polyurethane-0-pu-u_8848.html?dwvar_superbirki-core-polyurethane-0-pu-u__8848_width=N

Oofos do clogs. So so comfortable, I have the flip flops and wear them loads, really help with sore feet.

I wear Haflinger Grizzly clogs when I’m standing in our cold, tiled kitchen. I’ve also got Crocs (mostly for nipping outside) and prefer the Haflingers.

I wash my crocs in the dishwasher. The uppers don’t get dirty often at all.

Wait, what? I need crocs now, if only to prove they're dshwasher-able
OverByYer · 24/11/2021 07:12

Ikea used to do a croc style clog

picklemewalnuts · 24/11/2021 07:25

They are great, I used to wear them camping. You can Wade through puddles and streams, potter along the beach, your crocs don't care. They don't give me blisters and they stop the cold biting up from the tiled floor. I am sceptical of anyone who dislikes crocs. It's as unreasonable as disliking dogs!

nanbread · 24/11/2021 07:33

I've just ordered a pair of pistachio green Crocs...

I plan to wear them with thick socks as my shoes round the house instead of slippers. More practical I hope.

Hoesbeforebroes · 24/11/2021 07:38

I have a pair of slides for this purpose. They're Puma I think, but all the sports brands do them. Better than Crocs IMHO because I can wear them out in public, just to to the bins or car etc.
without dying of shame Grin

I wear crocs in the house. I am prone to planter fasciitis and lots of slippers are too flat for me. They last ages and really easy cleaned.

MilduraS · 24/11/2021 15:55

They have up to 50% off on their website for Black Friday so no point in looking at Amazon knock offs right now.

RedCarsGoFaster · 24/11/2021 16:01

Love love love Crocs. I have two pairs these days. A hideous black pair with especially sturdy soles for dog walking and a hideous bright pink pair for knocking about the house and garage in.

IDGAF if people judge me, I'm 40, fat and comfy in them. I wash them in the bath but will have to try the dishwasher!

pastypirate · 24/11/2021 16:31

We have returned to crocs in this house. I used to buy them every summer for the dds - super handy and safe on the beach.

I tried on dd1 who is the same size feet as me to wear them on the paddle board and my god the comfort!!! I'm getting black ones with jewel jibbits.

Dd2 asked for some because she's in a dance school with regular performances - all the dance teachers and older girls wear them in between - easy to get on off - they fit over ballet shoes even and tights etc and they don't make a sound backstage. Dd2 was in love with them again. I can see their point - you can just slip them on and run to the next class!

Marianne1234 · 24/11/2021 16:33

Oh no. I don’t care how comfy or practical. Just no.

But dogs are beautiful and cute. Crocs aren't.
Leftbutcameback · 24/11/2021 16:45

Are they good if you have foot problems then? I have extensor tendinitis which won’t get better and need something to wear around the house

lazylinguist · 24/11/2021 16:55

There is disagreement on whether they are good for your feet, and I don't know if they are helpful for all kinds of foot pain, @Leftbutcameback. Apparently podiatrists don't like them because they are too flexible and don't secure the heel, which can cause you to grip with your toes (like flip flops). They say don't wear them all day. I probably often wear mine a few hours a day, but on and off. They massively helped my foot pain and I don't think they make me grip with my toes.
