John Lewis rewards

After enjoying reading the M&S sparks thread and feeling quite pleased that other people think it is atrocious too, thought I would do same for JL. It is a shockingly bad, almost insulting rewards card. They have ceased to do the tea and cake rewards and the offers are just a pitiful joke. Really JL it is not a special reward to be able to view your Christmas advert. Nor are useless competitions with practically zero chance of winning. I spend a fair bit of money in JL but get nothing in return. And yet Liberty for instance send me great vouchers, I’m enjoying their beauty drop etc but I spend far less with them than JL. I do think JL take customers for granted and they need a far better loyalty scheme. Rant over!

They closed the Home storeone that was nearest to me so even if they resurected the coffee & cak evoucher it would be 2 hr + trip & no cake is that good

We buy most of our large ticket items there - however I am rubbish at looking on the app - did so this weeken to see the google nest offer

@NiellyNoFive

I got a free Winter beauty box worth £100 a couple of days ago with my JL AC so I was over the moon
Tell us more! How?! What’s AC?!
Hetty0 · 24/11/2021 17:49

@woodhill

Yes had their card for years. It's very good
In what way have you found the card good over the past 12 months, @woodhill?

I’ve just had a look at my most recent “rewards.” Two competitions in March and an offer for a £75 gift card if I take out JL broadband Confused

Nothing since then!

Ah just googled it - the beauty box was a GWP.

Where are the actual JL member offers?!

woodhill · 24/11/2021 17:54

@Hetty0

Just the spending rewards tbh

Also good to deal with on the phone if any issues

I've had an account since 1993 when they had a store card

Its nothing to do with the reward card which I agree isn't as good

Our local JL has gone which is such a shame

PomRuns · 25/11/2021 08:57

I think some of the rewards are good ie £5 off beauty of recycle an item.
They also have virtual events done free for JL members, the paid ones generally come with free stuff that’s great quality ie branded mascara/lipstick at beauty events.

I also got the winter box.

I could have written this! I am shocked at the totally shit rewards. As a customer who has spent a substantial amount, to get an entry to a prize draw as a reward is insulting.
neveradullmoment99 · 25/11/2021 12:13

@Earwigworries

They definitely aren’t customer service orientated anymore . I had a gift card - which I used but returned the item so ended up with a credit . A few months later the credit disappeared . They’d unilaterally removed it and apparently emailed me another gift card which I’d never received . It took months to sort out
Exactly the same happened to me. An utter disgrace!
neveradullmoment99 · 25/11/2021 12:17

I appreciate that they are not doing as well now but tbh, to say a competition is a reward is a joke.

Hetty0 · 25/11/2021 16:49

Unfortunately they spectacularly mismanaged the marketing of their latest beauty weekend. They failed to email the majority of their members about it, but instead it was plastered all over the MSE/Freebie boards. So on the day the tickets went on sale, the decent ones (i.e. the ones with a goody bag for a small cost) were snapped up by the Freebie hunters who were boasting about how they only signed up to be a member so they could sign up for the event!

They also opened ticket sales at 940 instead of 10 - so by the time the few JL members who had received an email went on to book - the tickets had been snapped up!

Really poorly handled…

Hetty0 · 04/12/2021 11:32

Has anyone got any Christmas rewards at all? Or has JL basically cancelled the scheme?

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 04/12/2021 18:05

I don’t understand the John Lewis reward card at all now, I used to regularly get the Tea and cake vouchers and always used them whilst I was shopping in JL.

I’ve spent hundreds on-line with them over lockdown and all I get now is them pushing their credit card which I don’t want. Do you need to have the credit card now to get rewards? I had another letter a couple of weeks ago saying special offer but again just pushing the credit card Confused.

Ive had absolutely nothing from them. I keep getting messages too saying about rewards but when iIog on it is just entry to competitions!
NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 04/12/2021 18:28

I had £5 to apply to a sale. Fine, I thought, as I was doing a biggish online Christmas pressies shop today. Of course, when I checked out I noticed that the discount hadn't been applied. Went back to look at the offer only to discover it had to be spent in-stores! Really annoying!

LuluBlakey1 · 04/12/2021 18:36

Some people still get a 'Free Coffee and Cake' voucher. I would rather have that than any if the useless reward offers I've had in the last two years. There has not been one I have been interested in.

I lived John Lewis but have felt so disappointed in them in the last two years.

Bought some expensive trainers that fell apart after two walks. Had to return them.
Bought a camera and the quality of it was awful for £600 - my 10 year old snap shot camera takes better photos. Returned that.
Bought a coat for DD and some wellies that didn't last a month- zip broke on coat, rubber started to come unstuck on wellies.

They are very expensive now. Another camera we looked at was £1600 in JL and £1200 from local camera shop- both brand new with two years warranty, exactly the same camera.

Worldgonecrazy · 04/12/2021 18:39

Definitely agree with the credit card. We put everything on there and get a few hundred in vouchers each year. Very worthwhile if you pay it off each month.

PomRuns · 04/12/2021 18:55

Maybe I've been lucky as I managed to get a ticket for the beauty event plus a coffee/cake voucher.

HumourReplacementTherapy · 04/12/2021 20:51

I got a bloody Christmas card. They shut down the JL in my city and send me a bloody card Sad
I am grief stricken!! There's no where nice to shop at all now.

JL on Twitter now saying that they have stopped cake and coffee for all Hmm
NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 05/12/2021 10:54

I do think they're shooting themselves in the foot getting rid of the free cake and coffee. It was a way to encourage people into the stores (who would then more likely be encouraged to spend money in there!).

I've just totted up what I've spent in JL over the past year. Much more 'online' than I normally would do in person, including some expensive white goods. What rewards have I received? Nothing but the £5 off voucher I couldn't use online! That's not much of a return on investment, is it?

Jasmine11 · 05/12/2021 18:27

That's not much of a return on investment, is it?

But you're not investing, you are shopping. These rewards are quite a fairly recent phenomenon, but sound like some people think they are an entitlement!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 07/12/2021 07:33

Don't think they're an entitlement but the way the shops have marketed them was to encourage expenditure to get better (more) perks.

Sockpile · 07/12/2021 07:43

I just checked my rewards and can collect a free mini panettone.
AuntieMarys · 07/12/2021 07:50

Love the credit card! We've got £130 in vouchers to spend from this year.

LoveLabradors · 07/12/2021 08:16

We have the credit card too. But even that had the points reduced a couple of years ago. I do understand there isn’t an entitlement to rewards for shopping, however for something marketed as a rewards card it is shocking. My latest rewards are just entries to competitions and £5 in store. This is for a place I spend an awful lot of money in. And yet Liberty which is my “treat” place where I tend to only buy when there is an offer or GWP gives me so much more and makes me feel like a very valued customer despite being probably one of their more modest customers! They have just sent me another £10 voucher for an admin error they made that I hadn’t even noticed. And I get free postage on everything for being a beauty drop member. So it really is a nice experience.
