John Lewis rewards

After enjoying reading the M&S sparks thread and feeling quite pleased that other people think it is atrocious too, thought I would do same for JL. It is a shockingly bad, almost insulting rewards card. They have ceased to do the tea and cake rewards and the offers are just a pitiful joke. Really JL it is not a special reward to be able to view your Christmas advert. Nor are useless competitions with practically zero chance of winning. I spend a fair bit of money in JL but get nothing in return. And yet Liberty for instance send me great vouchers, I’m enjoying their beauty drop etc but I spend far less with them than JL. I do think JL take customers for granted and they need a far better loyalty scheme. Rant over!

They definitely aren’t customer service orientated anymore . I had a gift card - which I used but returned the item so ended up with a credit . A few months later the credit disappeared . They’d unilaterally removed it and apparently emailed me another gift card which I’d never received . It took months to sort out

Hetty0 · 22/11/2021 15:02

Not only have the offers dried up - they sent all members an email at the start of the pandemic saying that any current coffee/cake vouchers would be extended until when the cafes reopened. Of course, this wasn’t true. So, they owe thousands of people a coffee/cake voucher.

lindyloo57 · 22/11/2021 18:25

Defiantly not as many offers, but I just used a free cake and coffee one the weekend,

Eaumyword · 22/11/2021 19:28

I agree - used to be brilliant but for the last 2 years has fallen way, way behind Boots and M&S.
The coffee&cake would have been a loss leader but it gets people in the building, browsing and buying.

LookdeepintotheParka · 22/11/2021 20:11

I get the odd discount on beauty items but agree JL not very generous of late. I used to love the coffee and cake voucher Sad

Tbf I've had a couple of nice freebies - a reed diffuser and a bar of chocolate but they've been the highlights over the last few years!

greenlynx · 22/11/2021 20:22

I haven’t got anything useful from them, there were a couple of coffee and cake vouchers which I struggled to use (no shop nearby).

I like their credit card scheme, we use it everywhere to collect points and then use them up at Waitrose for nice food/wine.

woodhill · 22/11/2021 20:24

Yes, used to love the tea and cake

I spend a lot in John Lewis

FitAt50 · 22/11/2021 20:50

I am a former John Lewis Manager who was made redundant when they closed 16 stores in the past 18 months. The business was/is really struggling and they are fighting to survive and to save 10,000 of jobs. The reality with the coffee and cake vouchers was that many people came to the cafe for the freebies and then went straight out without buying anything. Please be nice to them as you will miss them when they are also gone.

TangledUp789 · 22/11/2021 21:13

The ‘rewards’ section of my John Lewis app is full of offers/competitions that expired in February and March this year. Nothing since then, which is pretty rubbish. But I did read on HotUKDeals that some people have been sent coffee and cake vouchers in the last few weeks. I’m one of the people who go to John Lewis for my free cake, have a browse of the shop and leave with nothing, so I’m not expecting anything.

PomRuns · 22/11/2021 21:17

I've a coffee and cake voucher, do spend a lot in there. I'd be v sad if my local branch closed.

PomRuns · 22/11/2021 21:19

@FitAt50 sorry to hear that. Most of my Christmas shopping will be done in JL- hopefully will help.

Flyingsouthagain · 22/11/2021 21:23

I am very sad my local store closed. Miss it enormously, especially at this time of year.

Would happily have gone without free coffee / cake to save my store.

Zinnia · 22/11/2021 21:26

We also have the credit card and use the vouchers on big-ish ticket items at JL. We are renovating the house at the moment and running loads of big purchases through the card, we should be in line for a fair whack of vouchers when they next issue them.

I don't shop at JL (or M&S for that matter) for the loyalty card freebies, albeit I do miss the M&S 20% off promotions. I would rather they both carried on being viable businesses than giving me the free coffees, miss the Waitrose ones though I do!

Nitgel · 22/11/2021 21:32

I find the card useful to track purchases and for sending things back etc they're obviously in trouble but I would hate jl to go. They have good sales in store the grabby thread re the ysl voucher pissed me off.

I will miss it when it goes and couldn't care less about any offer cards.

Nitgel · 22/11/2021 21:34

The Sloane Sq shop were booming out Barry Manilow the other day. Grin

MrPanks · 22/11/2021 21:36

@FitAt50 - really sorry you lost your job. I love JL, and yes I would happily forgo any freebies if it means good people keep their jobs and I keep my favourite shop. I spend a lot of money in JL and have always had very good customer service. I don't think we can take JL for granted based on all the great shops that have disappeared over the past few years. There is much less choice on the high street as a result. Hope you have found/find happiness in a new job.

PomRuns · 22/11/2021 21:39

@nitgel That thread was awful - I hope JL cancelled most of the orders. So disappointing to see people justifying what they did.

Curtaintassels · 22/11/2021 21:40

I used to spend loads with them online every month but their customer service is so bad that I won’t risk it anymore. I noticed when they outsourced their customer service to crapita that things went terribly downhill.

Thank you. I have a lovely new job working in hr at local university. They really looked after us and were a fabulous employer. x

PomRuns · 22/11/2021 21:41

Support JL will enable buying a few more things - we all need treats !

NiellyNoFive · 23/11/2021 14:16

I got a free Winter beauty box worth £100 a couple of days ago with my JL AC so I was over the moon

Me too. They wouldn't refund an obviously faulty small purchase, so I just can't trust them for anything bigger Sad. Used to spend loads there.
Ihaveamagicwand · 23/11/2021 15:26

Those of you who say they spend a lot in JL, have you thought about getting their credit card? I don't spend a lot regularly in JL but tend to get household items there (think mattresses, bedding, kitchenware, etc). You get points for money spent both there and on non JL purchases and get JL partnership vouchers 3/4 times per year which don't have a use by date. Well worth having as long as you pay the bill off each month!

Ihaveamagicwand · 23/11/2021 15:29

Sorry crossed posts, as I see others have already posted about this.

woodhill · 23/11/2021 16:01

Yes had their card for years. It's very good
