Compulsory Christmas Jumper Party

DukeofEarlGrey · 09/11/2021 20:42

I have an office Christmas party coming up - new job, nice people, I'm game BUT dress code is compulsory Christmas jumpers and I hate all that nonsense. Can anyone help me find a stylish one that I might actually enjoy wearing? I'm assuming there must be some fun ones that have a bit more going for them than the really garish supermarket stuff. NB I am an hourglass and would rather not be swamped.

Forgive me the vanity here, I have barely been out in 18 months and want to look good when I do. Hence S&B and not elsewhere!

Some christmas pyjamas you can get away with wearing the top as a t--shirt. You then have pjs you can wear whenever & it doesn't feel like a waste.

Shewholovedthethebanhills · 10/11/2021 14:22

I hate the naffness and the consumerism of Christmas jumpers so always customise when I find myself obliged. I shall be stealing the soft toy suggestion above this year! I’m sure DC will have something I can borrow.

AperolWhore · 10/11/2021 14:37

Next have some fab classy ones that you’ll love wearing!

Hoppinggreen · 10/11/2021 14:38

Jumpers are far too hot for most offices.
Get a tshirt instead

Thanks for all the suggestions... and sympathy! I think I am leaning towards @mrssmiling's necklace idea - I have a (subtle, non-christmas) sequinned top that I could wear it with that should equal sufficient effort! There have been some great suggestions but I really can't see anything that will a) look good on me and b) that I want to spend money on! I think the necklace is a winner though and hopefully I can turn it off after the first ten mins - job done Grin

Gah, my school join in with this nonsense, I hate novelty clothing!
About 5 years ago I bought a fairisle jumper dress, possibly from ASOS or somewhere. I wear it for CJD every year, only once per year, I will never need to buy any more Christmas themed clothing!
Love the badge, would like to wear the same but without the AF part, think it may be frowned upon in the classroom Grin
Just to add, it may be hot in an office but we have to have our windows wide open at all times (thanks Covid!) and the hearing goes off at midday to save money, it’s FREEZING AF Grin maybe I should stick that on a sweatshirt!

SpookyScarySkeletons · 20/11/2021 22:50

Also pear shaped and I tend to go for a Christmas print skater style dress and leggings or thick tights on Christmas jumper day.

I am constantly too hot and would boil to death in a Christmas jumper.

mrssmiling · 21/11/2021 00:03

Glad you found something OP - like the badge!
Recently found another alternative to a Christmas jumper...but ticks the box!

Ah. Love the badge.

Soontobe60 · 21/11/2021 00:14

I wear one similar to this - a sweatshirt rather than a knitted jumper. www.next.co.uk/style/ls245261/R37808#R37808

Honestly if you're new and the others are doing it, I think trying to look nice will absolutely make you stand out as vain and/or standoffish. Prioritising looking good over having fun and group activities is rarely a great plan at work, even though MN likes to sniff at all these things.

There are a ton of vaguely amusing and vaguely flattering ones on second hand sites from eBay to vinted, you don't have to buy an expensive top you'll never wear again. Or you can get some tinsel and pin it around, or flashing Christmas earrings - just not something that says 'eww, I hate your activity'.

Nah, the more I get to know them the more I realise it's one of those rare workplaces where it's fine to be yourself and they will find my choice funny... off topic but I recently left a job because of a systemic culture of bullying and am thoroughly enjoying the new vibe!

Having said that, the pink unicorn jumper is awesome Grin

I actually found a lovely unworn fairisle Scandi style red & white Christmas jumper for £4.99 in a charity shop last week!

I recommend looking in charity shops because most Christmas jumpers are hardly worn.
