I just assumed the beauty drop was replacing the gwp. I mean it must cost them a fortune to give stuff away.....

It won't be costing them a fortune. Most of what they're sending out are just fee samples from brands. Some of the things I've seen are things that I've had free before when I've bought directly from the brand. They're just plonking them in the beauty drop instead of giving them out free when people purchase something from the brand.

The makeup bag must have cost something to produce, but on the whole, I really don't think that this is as generous as people seem to think it is. If they sent out 1 free full size item it would be more generous than a bunch of free samples.

It's a clever way to try to increase their market share and ensure that customers purchase from them.

Was staying away from GWP’s for a multitude of reasons this year. Did have a look at the cult beauty one and also the space nk one but neither of them are particularly exciting to me. I am however looking to buy a new foundation, loose powder and an spf top up so I will probably get the space nk one and give the GWP to my girls to go through.

I'm signed up to the Liberty Beauty Drop and love the idea of it... but Liberty's beauty range isn't great at the moment. They never had as many brands as Space NK and Cult Beauty, but it feels like it's got even smaller recently. I see Nars aren't stocked there any more, so I can't even get the tinted moisturiser I use from there. I was browsing the make-up the other day and the selection just seemed really sparse...even the stuff they had, they didn't have many shades available.

I justified signing up because I thought I could just transfer my beauty spending to there instead of other sites ...but with such a limited selection they don't make it easy. I'll probably end up using my credit on their gift sets/kits (which can be great - although wasn't tempted by the New Year New You one) or maybe candles as presents. The free postage is really useful for sending gifts. I just wish they'd expand their offering a bit more.

That's interesting, I wonder whether it's coincidental or not. Maybe they are selling out of more things now that people are tied into spending their money at Liberty, or maybe they intentionally reduced their range to save on costs, and introduced the beauty drop to ensure that customers continue to buy from them.

I considered joining the drop, but I rarely buy from Liberty (I think I've only ordered twice in the past) and I didn't want to be committed to a high spend. Especially since their advent calendar was so pants this year.

@doublecleansed I posted about this exact issue on the Liberty thread recently - I ended up contacting them via email and they confirmed the things I wanted were available in the store even if not online. As I live over 500 miles away that wasn't the most convenient answer, but they did offer a mail order service and I was able to use beauty drop points for that. A rather protracted process for a particular shade of lipstick and a bottle of perfume, but I got there in the end.

I wonder if they are having staffing issues with regards to getting the website updated. They won't be deliberately not putting items online. They're losing sales!

@westraywife that's an annoying, long-winded way to have to order something. i don't find their website massively user-friendly in general actually.

there's definitely stock issues -- but also they just don't stock a great range of brands - and now, with Nars gone, it's even less.

I do like the beauty drop boxes - but I don't think they'll keep me signed up in the long term if i can't spend the credit i've built up on stuff I really want/need (i signed up at the start so have £100 "in the bank" already..eek). Hoping they bring some new brands in this year.

Sounds like last week's Space NK GWP was a bit of a debacle...but I've realised they've changed their GWP model to sort of mirror Liberty's beauty drop - with Liberty you get a box every three months - i.e £60. That now seems to be the spend for Space NK GWPs too.

Good value Caroline Hirons bundle at Space NK launched this morning. Not for me this time as I already have a stash of the Medik8 retinal and Dennis Gross pads, but it’s looks good. Liberty are doing a Mother's Day gift worth £209 for £65. It's packaged in a really pretty box. I'm actually thinking of spending some of my liberty beauty club money but think I'm going to get an aromatherapy associates gift set

Fenwick have a rather nice looking fragrance GWP too - available with a £60 fragrance purchase.
