Very chic/stylish women that you've seen out and about

I've just returned from holiday and there was a very chic woman staying in my hotel. She was French (of course! I thought she probably was before I even heard her speak). Average height, maybe 5ft 5ish, slim but not skinny, brown bobbed hair worn in a natural wave style, minimal make up. She wore very simple outfits such as black denim shorts with a white fitted tshirt but just looked so good all the time!

Has anyone else seen anyone who really stands out as looking stylish recently?

Are the deletions about women so stylish that they broke mumsnet?

PumpkinGin · 11/11/2021 11:01

I was enjoying reading about everyone’s experience with stylish women. I am hoping to get some inspiration after having been a quite bedraggled mum for a few years (youngest now in school).

Hope people keep posting.

@Practicebeingpatient

I was out with friends recently and we noticed a very chic group of women who looked to be early 40s/late 50s. It was a cold day at a coastal town and we were all wearing variations of jeans/trainers/jackets/woolly hats while the other women were wearing smart boots/short skirts with opaque tights or skinny jeans with smart jackets, artfully draped scarves, smart handbags and all had fabulous hair. They were perfect, smart casual ladies who lunch. It made us look a right scruffy crew.

It was only when we saw them again later in the day I realised none of them were cis women. I don't know if they were transwomen or cross dressers but they all looked amazing and they motivated me to smarten myself up a bit.

Men usually look ridiculous in women’s clothing

@Yogawankonobi, if only! Grin

. to read later.

My dear Gran, who recently passed {aged 98!} was pretty stylish and always looked immaculate.
She used to coordinate colours, so would wear navy trousers, with a white shirt tucked in , red beads, red clip on earrings and a red bag.

I also think the most stylish women I have seen , always seem to look effortless. They wear simple cuts , minimal jewellery, hair cut/colour look expensive. I think most of it is the way they carry themselves?

@Interrobanger careful. People are being deleted for less... Sad really.

Yogawankonobi · 11/11/2021 15:14

@BringMeTea ahhhh I see

JMAngel1 · 11/11/2021 15:17

Who is deleting? MN HQ?
This is Style and Beauty for crying out loud not a gender debate thread - I’m sure MN must have one but I sure as hell wouldn’t be frequenting it. The world has gone mad.

My style crush is a neighbour - she is achingly stylish - in her early 60s and looks a little like Mary Portas. Always impeccably dressed in asymmetric hem/draping outfits. Gorgeous.

Floisme · 11/11/2021 15:38

I'll add another one: an ex colleague who put on a lot of weight following some health issues and medication, which I know got her down, but she always looked immaculate. It was a very groomed look which I'd struggle to maintain but I think what made the biggest difference was a very sharp, precise, modern haircut. And she loved her lipstick.

slipperyeel · 11/11/2021 15:48

I have a friend who doesn’t fit the usual mould, let’s be honest if you’re tall and slim you’re already ahead of the game.
My mate is short and size 12. She always looks cool and stylish, on trend but not slavishly so, wears a lot of black, jeans, pencil skirts and cool trainers. She does spend quite a lot of money on clothes as she has a good job and she has really good skin which I suppose helps!

LittleMysSister · 11/11/2021 15:50

Yes one of my friends is like this, always looks so chic.

Hair always down and waved, clothing always plain and classy. She's been this way ever since university, just a very stylish and put together person.

LittleMysSister · 11/11/2021 15:56

I completely agree it's about the level of grooming too, particularly the hair.

As someone with long curly hair which is more often than not slung up into a hasty bun/ponytail, it definitely contributes to me looking like a scruff bag. I look so much more 'put together' when it's down and styled.

I also envy people who manage to keep their clothes looking new, mine always seem to look old and worn unless they are actually new.

ARabbitisaBunny · 11/11/2021 16:03

I have a friend who looks amazing whatever she wears. To be honest, I think she is able to afford to buy well, but she can be dressed in a white T-shirt and a pair of jeans and still look stunning. I feel like a potato when I stand next to her! 🥔

PGordino · 11/11/2021 16:10

not a single facial hair out of place.

I expect I found this so funny because I’m now around the moustache growing age Grin. The thought of grooming it carefully instead of frantically plucking out every hair…

I’ve tried many times to analyse the secrets of stylishness. I used to think it was simplicity and slimness and a good bob, but I don’t think it is, always.

I think Kimthemuse on Instagram is one of the most beautiful women ever, but it’s easy to be stylish when you’re being dressed by a couturier I suppose.

TeeTotaller1 · 11/11/2021 16:20

I remember seeing a woman, years ago and she's come to mind, size 12ish, late 30's, in a pair of jeans, plain tshirt and converse, overbody canvas bag, silver bangles and big hooped earrings and an amazing afro. She was just stunning and really wasnt aware of it.

Equally a lady in her 60's size 26ish sharp grey bob, red lipstick, black linen dress, red bag, red pumps and lots of silver jewellery, she was gorgeous and I told her so.

I hope one day someone will tell me that I look lovely, I need to up my game from 'swamp monster' to 'a mature lady that looks presentable'

PumpkinGin · 11/11/2021 16:28

I really need to up my game. It is such a good point about the hair. I don’t think I put enough effort into it.

Both my grandmothers were incredibly stylish. They actually always had immaculate hair and makeup. And when I think about it, well cut cloths and eclectic jewellery.

My Grandmother should have had shares in Elnett! Nothing was moving that hair do!
BigPyjamas · 12/11/2021 08:05

I saw a woman last weekend who looked so confident and stylish.

She was 60s, quite tall, grey choppy bob hairstyle, leather cropped trousers and beautiful pea green crushed velvet pointy flats.

Her confidence was shining through.

SarahDippity · 13/11/2021 00:01

So the recurring theme is hair … glowing skin … understated elegance. I feel scruffy!

shinynewapple21 · 13/11/2021 00:19

Another recurring theme seems to be good posture .

Mine's awful Sad

I’m short, and feel childlike and awkward when faced with taller, elegant people.
Malibuismysecrethome · 13/11/2021 07:06

Floisme I completely agree and their make-up is always beautiful. Even the young girls working on a check out are really beautiful and elegant. You see it in Dubai as well, despite being covered they have amazing make-up, nails, jewellery and designer handbags.

Deathraystare · 13/11/2021 14:29

I just try not to sit amongst the pigeons, they worsen the effect.

I know what you mean! It would be better if I did not try to take loads of bags with me wherever I go - I look like I have all my possessions with me (I have been homeless and really not trying to look like I am again!).
