I’m looking for any bag enthusiast who will hopefully find this fun to help me out. I really like these three bags which do you like best /hate… or are they all hideous? If all hideous, please give a better option, your own most loved ones etc.

Love this but not sure if a bit dull uk.louisvuitton.com/eng-gb/products/onthego-mm-tote-bag-nvprod2630033v

Or love this but not sure if a bit Dorien Green/tacky

Or

Love this but not sure if a bit too crass/logo heavy, love the red inside!

I want a mainly black bag, tote style, of about the size in the photos. I’ve never bought anything so expensive for myself. The bag is a gift to myself for promotion/working very hard on the front line during the pandemic whilst pregnant. I’m now on maternity leave and it’s time to get something lovely and treasured. I don’t want to spend more than 2.5k. I may even change my mind and think the whole thing stupid!

There’s sub forums for all your big designers. I’ve linked you to the LV one.

I bear no responsibility for how much you spend now😂

twilightcafe · 08/11/2021 17:43

A

B is too Towie for me.
C is a bit more tasteful.

DIKateFleming · 08/11/2021 17:49

Just joining in to help with my pandemic purchase, I love that first YSL one @StrongSunglasses does anyone know if they have a good selection of YSL in Selfridges? I finally have a London shopping day coming up and fancy a nosy (sorry for the hijack @Boobicoosg)

I’d been looking at this YSL which is very similar, or the smaller version

[quote Sexnotgender]Love love love this. Like your second one but a little more classy.

Oooh I love this one too!!

I'm a sucker for a bit of animal print!

OP I like the 2nd one of your choice...

SueblueNZ · 08/11/2021 19:10

If I may join in...
Of your top three, Oh, the first is a real in-your-hand bag. I think it would be really hard to wrangle with two kids. It's also a bit stiff looking, to me.
The second is beyond gorgeous in its size and shape and slouchiness. If the logos are too much, maybe look for the same style in a different brand.
The third doesn't appear to meet the specifications you set.

MavisMonkey · 08/11/2021 20:41

I would echo the comments to check out YSL, they are lovey. I am also a fan of Celine:

www.celine.com/en-gb/celine-shop-women/handbags/luggage/mini-luggage-handbag-in-drummed-calfskin-189213DRU.38NO.html

I have gone to buy an LV on three separate occasions over the years but each time the sales assistants have been so bloody arrogant / rude that I've thought "fuck that, I'm not spending my money with you" and gone elsewhere.

Verite1 · 08/11/2021 20:46

I love bags but I don’t like obvious branding and for that reason I’m not keen on LV. Out of the choices, I prefer the first, but that is because it is the most subtle and IMO, more classy.

Verite1 · 08/11/2021 20:51

My favourite bag designer is Bottega Veneta. I have 3 and love them all. I also love Proenza schouler (have one) and Loewe (sadly have none)!

Boobicoosg · 08/11/2021 20:52

Of course one and all feel free to jump on this thread, the more fancy bag chat the better, I say!

@SueblueNZ yes you’ve nailed my mission statement there, I think 2 would suit my style, it’s a bit like a hobo style I think? You’re right 3 is no good for me.

@MavisMonkey I have been to the YSL site and a few look lovely! I’m not a fan of that Celine one as it looks a bit too structured. That’s disgusting re shit arse sales people at LV. Makes my blood boil. I’ve seen such type of staff in beauty stores treat my mum like crap (she has an accent and isn’t white) and I blew a gasket!

Do people agree that the quality of the LV bag has reduced? I’ve read that in an article today.

Now I’ve got YSL to look at and pick my fave. Will report back. I may have to take a break for a day or two to cleanse my bag pallet before deciding as I’ve well and truly been bombarded by a bounty of bags! Well done ladies, excellent work!

The third one! I've got the neverfull in that print and I LOVE IT

Chrysanthemum5 · 08/11/2021 21:03

I think it depends what you want it for. For everyday I like number 1. For an occasion nag I like number 2. Personally when I bought an expensive bag (a long time ago 😂) I knew I wanted any colour except black or brown. I knew I wouldn't be buying lots of bags so I wanted something that made me smile.

Let us know which one you pick

That is a thing of BEAUTY!

Chippymunks · 09/11/2021 08:55

Try and get to a store to try them out as they can be heavy. My hand held one is very heavy even when it’s empty.

calvados · 09/11/2021 18:31

First one bit boring and structured, second one defo Dorian Green yuk just need the short skirt and leopard top Shock third one has a bolder statement to it and will go with most things from an all black suit to jeans and a tee. Can I suggest one? I went for a super soft napa leather Gucci soho bag in red with chrome hardware. It can be dressed up or down and carries loads too! Vintage will cost less too and keep its value. This one is similar if you can’t find it new.

threatmatrix · 10/11/2021 09:55

I’d buy second hand. It’s like brand new but so much cheaper. I love when someone thinks I’ve got tons of money from the bag I’m using.

Singinghollybob · 10/11/2021 16:07

I like the first bag the most. What a lovely gift to yourself and why not, hope you get lots of enjoyment out of whichever you decide

Ireolu · 11/11/2021 21:42

Go to LV to try on. It will help work out if the bags will be practical for you.
With what you want I think the artsy works best. Shoulder/arm carry. Can fit lots/laptop. I prefer small cross body bags to keep me hands free so can make no suggestions. Enjoy shopping!

Flyonawalk · 11/11/2021 23:13

OP what a lovely problem!

Have you considered Valextra or Delvaux? Valextra is referred to as the Italian Hermes, and the quality is excellent. The Iside bag might suit (sorry I don’t know how to link). I have Valextra luggage and travel bags, and they are indestructible.

Delvaux is a wonderful Belgian leather house, older than the kingdom of Belgium itself. The craftsmanship is stunning. Their famous styles are the Brilliant and the Tempete (both a bit dated to be honest) but they vary the line-up each season so it’s worth looking at.

Both these houses have the advantage that they are not full of logos and are not easily identified. Those who know, know. Everyone else will see a beautifully-made bag with classic beauty.

BruiserWoods · 11/11/2021 23:16

I love the artsy one

BruiserWoods · 11/11/2021 23:47

I love the YSL Niki in crinkled leather too. That was on my list for my 50th. I bought the Loewe Hammock in the end which I love. I slept with it on the pillow beside me the first few nights. I'm single thank God. So there was room in the bed for my new handbag. Not the tiny one. Love Loewe's new bags though so there might need to be a 55th splurge down the line.

Boobicoosg · 19/11/2021 08:24

Well ladies, I gave it some time and came back to the matter and now I know the Artsy MM in epi leather is the one for me.

Love the post about sleeping next to the bag 😂, she’s on the way to me now, I am very excited! Thanks so much for all your help. What I love about this thread is that clearly there is a bag out there for everyone and we must remember that Someone’s bin bag could be someone else’s Chanel Grin

If anyone else has just bought a bag and wants to share please do!
