I’m looking for any bag enthusiast who will hopefully find this fun to help me out. I really like these three bags which do you like best /hate… or are they all hideous? If all hideous, please give a better option, your own most loved ones etc.

Love this but not sure if a bit dull uk.louisvuitton.com/eng-gb/products/onthego-mm-tote-bag-nvprod2630033v

Or love this but not sure if a bit Dorien Green/tacky

Or

Love this but not sure if a bit too crass/logo heavy, love the red inside!

I want a mainly black bag, tote style, of about the size in the photos. I’ve never bought anything so expensive for myself. The bag is a gift to myself for promotion/working very hard on the front line during the pandemic whilst pregnant. I’m now on maternity leave and it’s time to get something lovely and treasured. I don’t want to spend more than 2.5k. I may even change my mind and think the whole thing stupid!

That MM artsy bag is looking better and better. I had it it on the list initially. Will put it back on!

@Boobicoosg

I also love the comment about the rest of you having to be on point if you have an LV bag or it’ll look fake haha, this definitely pertains to me as I’ve got a toddler and 9 week old and so am very off point!
Yes this comment made me laugh too! There's some truth to it 🤣
ShirleyPhallus · 07/11/2021 21:22

Absolutely love that this is a positive bag thread and no one has come on to admonish you for not buying a new pram or something instead Grin

Personally I’d go for a mulberry Bayswater but the classic, lighter logo ones of your options are lovely

tickledtiger · 07/11/2021 21:27

The leopard print one.

tickledtiger · 07/11/2021 21:32

[quote Boobicoosg]There is also this one…

Actually I prefer this one. It’s more of a “handbag”. Prettier shape.

PaxRomana · 07/11/2021 21:45

With your budget I’d be looking at a Loewe puzzle over an LV (I’m not big on the logos) or Bottega Veneta.

Are you able to see them in person?

Completely agree with this. I personally would not buy mulberry for the budget you have.
mobear · 07/11/2021 23:08

I love the LV empreinte leather. I have a wallet in it and have been eyeing a bag in it for a while. That said, I think it might suit a smaller bag (or a wallet). If you want a tote, I’d recommend the Saint Laurent East West Tote. It’s lovely and understated.

schmalex · 08/11/2021 08:03

I love that plain black one. Quite tempted myself! I've never had an LV but that would be nice for work, especially as it says it can fit a laptop in.

LadyCampanulaTottington · 08/11/2021 08:07

The first one. Classic shape and colour. You can buy twillys to match your outfit and from other luxury brands besides LV.

Sorry the link is for France (I live here) but you get the idea.

Boobicoosg · 08/11/2021 10:44

So I’ve looked at all of them again and the suggestions, thanks so much guys. I think I’ve figured out what I definitely do want - a bag that can be carried over the shoulder but also in the hand. I don’t want a cross-body bag as I get a bit of a seatbelt sensation. I do want a bag with a bit of structure but not so much that it can’t be bashed about a bit (I’m not that graceful Grin), on a similar note - a bag that is forgiving and still looks good when I don’t (I think the puzzle is a bit too conservative for me), and one that has a bit more personality than a classic tote!

Therefore I think these ones are now the front runner. I really do still like the Cassette bag but is it just a cross body one?

I can go see them in person, I think. Will check what my nearest complex stocks.
And anyone got any more suggestions? Smile also for those suggesting non-LV, can you find any similar to number 2?

Top 3

I wish the first one had a bright red interior. The second one is a bit 'all out branding' for me

stereeotype · 08/11/2021 10:54

@Boobicoosg I am biased to the cassette for obvious reasons lol but it does not fit a massive amount in it - so it depends what you are looking for in the bag.

Do you need it to fit a laptop etc? If so then number 1

My padded cassette forts phone, keys, a small purse, maybe some gloves. It's not the kind of bag that fits lots of stuff in it. But IMO is the nicest one of the three.

So, for aesthetics I'd go for BV. If practicality is the main priority, then number 1.

Number 2 I don't like at all, sorry!

Viviennemary · 08/11/2021 10:57

The first one by miles. The last one is beyond tacky. Dreadful.

HavfrueDenizKisi · 08/11/2021 11:18

Definitely the first of the three if you must buy a Louis Vuitton (although personally I think they're are awful).

I'd second looking at Bottega Veneta. I have a fabulous one similar to this but not this exactly as mine is a few years old:

www.bottegaveneta.com/en-gb/handle-black-651556V01D18425.html

Or have a look at YSL? My everyday bag is this:

www.ysl.com/en-gb/niki-medium-in-crinkled-vintage-leather-809453771.html?targetid=pla-972815666291&location=9044978&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI0bT6j9KI9AIVDLbtCh0o3A3HEAQYAyABEgJNqvD_BwE

It's bloody lovely.

But I've never understood the LV love (IMO very footballers wives).

Wagsandclaws · 08/11/2021 11:27

I'm a bag enthusiast, I have Chanel, Dior, YSL, Aspinal Ect and honestly in terms of amazing quality and value for money Ysl is lovely. I have a college bag but they do lots of different types.

I too covet the BV cassette bag, I handled one in Selfridges last time I was on the lookout for a bag but ended up buying a lady Dior from the Dior boutique.

Are you set on buying brand new? You can get very good pre-loved handbags that are authenticated by the companies that are selling them?

PaxRomana · 08/11/2021 12:48

If you go with LV I like the middle, slouchier option (although I still don’t like the logo print). It seems a lot bigger than the BV one so maybe from the description from @stereeotype it might not be exactly what you’re looking for (although it’s so beautiful…).

I’m bored on my lunch break so had a quick look on the selfridges website, I actually quite liked this Balenciaga but I’d definitely want to see it in person.

Have you tried asking on purse forum? They know everything about bags and there might be a brand we’re all overlooking! Plus absolutely no risk of judgement on there Grin

Boobicoosg · 08/11/2021 13:00

Yes I would like the option of fitting a laptop in it. So the cassette is out.

I would like to buy the bag new, for the hedonistic experience of it all, I suppose. The smell, the unboxing, the stroking 😂

The YSL bag is lovely, will just hop on their website now, they look a lovely mix of classic elegance and modern practicality.

Paxromna - I’ll check out your suggestions now! Is the purse forum on mn? Everyone has been lovely and chill on this thread though, imagine if I posted on AIBU 😂 I’d be treated worse than anything cat hating, bad parking, toilet brush using, log burning noisy neighbour.

OP posts:
PaxRomana · 08/11/2021 13:13

You forgot MIL in terms of mumsnet’s most hated…

It’s a separate forum. The users on there have crazy collections (even I get a bit judgy and I have a high threshold Grin) but they know everything. There’s normally a board by designer so you can post on there and you’ll almost certainly find somebody who has the bag you’re looking at and is able to advise what it’s like, fits etc.

I don’t actually have any bags from the brands we’ve been looking at (furla is what o can stretch to) but I do love looking…

PaxRomana · 08/11/2021 13:15

@StrongSunglasses - that second YSL is gorgeous

tickledtiger · 08/11/2021 13:18

The first one of your new top three.

I say that because it’ll look best carried on crook of the arm. I think some of the elegance is lost when you shoulder carry.

The last one isn’t classic enough IMO.

The purse forum is amazing. I used to spend a lot of time there!

There was a thread on AIBU the other day about Chanel bags on play dates and the number of bitchy shitty comments was awful. Some people of mumsnet have a real thing against anyone having nice bags. It’s weird.
