Smart coat on a budget?

AreYouRightThereSkippy · 07/11/2021 12:27

I need a warm-ish, smart, autumn/winter coat, but I'm on a bit of a budget...

Can anyone recommend anywhere I should be looking please?

Charity shop. Great place for such finds.
Mango
Uniqlo

I don't want secondhand on this occasion, but thank you. I do get a lot of things secondhand.

What is your budget? La Redoute often has decent reductions.

AreYouRightThereSkippy · 07/11/2021 12:40

Under £100ish.

I have to say i have had quite a few decent ones from george at asda. They do the job but i would not say they are THE warmest
People are still always shocked when i tell them. I have 2 two that were £16 that i am regularly complimented on

UNIQLO is also fantastic but can be somewhat androgynous at times.
I would probably start with those two.

H&M have a few nice looking coats for under £100, including some with wool.

This one is over budget but might be worth the extra £20.

These are great! Thanks everyone.

I had forgotten about Asda! I did once have a coat from them and it looked lovely. It doesn't have to be super warm as I can put thermals on underneath.

I was going to say charity shop, until I read that you don't want second hand. You'd get top quality on an ASDA budget.....just saying..... This autumn I have picked up a pure new wool Ronit Zilkha tailored coat for £8.50, and a Per Una soft faux fur for £10.00.

Apart from that, can I suggest New Look and Tu Sainsburys as good budget alternatives for coats?

Mercurial123 · 07/11/2021 12:56

Zara is generally a bit rubbish quality wise. But their coats are pretty good.

lovetowearabargain · 07/11/2021 14:13

You could get two coats from Mimii London for your budget if you're the size they have in stock

ChuckMater · 07/11/2021 14:20

I got a smart one cheap from matalan last year that still gets compliments

AreYouRightThereSkippy · 07/11/2021 15:43

It's for my birthday as a present from my dad, so I'm not choosing secondhand on this occasion. I do get a lot of secondhand stuff, but I really want the treat of a new coat. But thanks again!

Thanks for all the other suggestions as well. Will take a proper look later Halloween Smile

Any Style/length/cut/colour preferences?

ESGdance · 07/11/2021 16:46

When, where and how often will you wear it?

If it’s for rare formal occasions or needs to be waterproof for daily use?

AreYouRightThereSkippy · 07/11/2021 16:47

Thanks, I want something long really. Calf/ankle length and with a bit of a waist. Preferably single breasted.

Primark have smart coats for £23 , I have one in red and one in camel , perfect for layering !

Haudyourwheesht · 07/11/2021 20:09

The problem with charity shops, ime, is you have to be able to pop in and check out the stock fairly regularly in order to get any really good buys and I just don't have the time. I'd never be able to rely on getting, say, a new winter coat, just on one or two visits.

This is what I was going to suggest! Op, primark have really lovely smart coats especially this time of year!
Watto1 · 07/11/2021 20:10

I’ve had a couple of lovely winter coats from Joe Browns.

operatinginstructions · 07/11/2021 20:13

Debenhams - really good value OP.

Primark had some lovely coats when I was there a few weeks ago :)

I liked this one: www.primark.com/en/all-products/womenswear/clothing/all-jackets-coats/grey-herringbone-double-breated-textured-crombie-coat/p/133145720

Under £100 offers quite a lot of scope I think.

Lands End? They're proper warm and while mine was £110 there were lots cheaper
